According to new reports, Newcastle United are eyeing up a move for Brentford star Ivan Toney.
This comes from FootballTransfers ‘exclusive’ by Steve Kay, who writes that we’re a considering a formal approach for the 27-year-old in the new year, with the striker currently serving an eight month ban – due to end on January 17th – for breaching the FA’s betting rules.
The report reveals that we’ve been in contact with Toney’s new agency – CAA Base – over a potential return to St James’ Park, but we’d face competition from Spurs and Man Utd; who’ve both shown serious interest.
It’s believed Eddie Howe sees Toney as an ‘ideal fit’ for Newcastle and a proven Premier League operator who could be the perfect replacement for Callum Wilson.
Our current number nine may yet sign a new deal, but he’s out of contract next summer as things stand and will turn 32 later this season.
Toney was on our books as a youngster, joining from Northampton eight years ago. However, after a series of loan spells in the EFL, Rafa Benitez opted against using the forward, who sealed a permanent move to Peterborough back in 2018.
Utter rubbish .. reporting on someone fake report .. this is how lazy media work … there is no evidence or fact behind this and pointless and misleading to post
