Alexander Isak injury update – New report reveals latest after striker returns from Sweden

According to NewcastleWorld, Alexander Isak has NOT suffered a serious injury – thought to be a groin problem – after Sweden confirmed his withdrawal from international duty.

Last night, his national team confirmed that he’d been ruled out of their upcoming games with Moldova and Belgium after assessment, leaving fans on Tyneside worried that he’d be facing a spell on the sidelines.

NewcastleWorld report that his groin issue will be assessed by the club’s medical staff, but he has not yet been ruled out of our Premier League clash with Crystal Palace.

Howe seemed hopeful that he’d be OK after the striker was forced off in the closing stages of Sunday’s 2-2 draw at West Ham. That said, the boss admitted Callum Wilson was ‘used in an emergency’ after the Swede ‘signalled that he had to come off’.

“Callum Wilson couldn’t have started the game and indeed, couldn’t really have played longer than he did in the end (86th minute).

“I only really wanted to use him in an emergency but Alex signalled that he had to come off, so he was a natural replacement. Fingers crossed he’ll be ok.”
