Sandro Tonali’s agent Giuseppe Riso has defended his client, saying the midfielder “will pay for his mistakes, but not things he didn’t do”.
Tonali received a very warm reception after the game against Crystal Palace on Sunday, with teammates and staff members pushing the 23-year-old towards the Gallowgate to receive support from fans.
Speaking to DAZN, Riso criticised the media who had ‘condemned’ the Italian ‘without knowing the reality’ and hopes the ‘sanction will be correct’ after reports of a potential 12-18 month ban:
“You saw the reaction by Newcastle fans… Sandro will pay for his mistakes — but not for things he didn’t do.
“Someone started to condemn Tonali in the media without knowing the reality. I just hope the sanction will be correct.”
It’s expected that our £55m signing will be handed a lengthy suspension, of that there is little doubt, although reports in Italy suggest his ban could be shortened as the player’s camp push for a plea bargain.
It’s a huge disappointment for everyone involved, but no one will be more disappointed than Tonali himself. It’s important that he knows how much the Toon army are backing him, with Saturday an emotional but powerful show of unity from staff, players and fans, who all rallied around the Italian.
A “warm welcome”? Wake up fellow fans. This was a stitch up from the
beginning. A player leaving his boyhood dream club? A successful regular
Euro competitor to come to NUFC?
I’ve had my doubts from the moment he exited that jet at Newcastle Airport
with a face like a slapped haddock but I never dreamed it could be this
catastrophic. Milan laughing all the way to the Banco Italia and some “deal”
down the line for poor Sandro. We were had……big time

Sorry I just dont get it.
a) He must have known the rules especially related to Football betting.
b) Too much time on his hands.
c) Too much money.
d) No self discipline.
e) Very little brain.
I think having to say he has a gambling addiction is just an excuse for the above.
Just like Toney, Merson and many others.

Look I get it from the point of view he shouldn’t have done qhat he did but……. I know …….he but on his team AC to win ….so its not like he was trying to under perform to throw matches like surely that has to be taken into account?
Yes a ban in Italian football evan European but surely not domestic not for anything more than 3 months. However I’m sure as it’s NUFC we will get screwed over…. anyway that’s my 50p worth regardless. TOOOONNNN all the way. Loyallist football supporters the word has ever had!!!

Give me the money he gets when I was 23 and I’d have been in the toon 7 nights a week spending it on beer and dirty women, I’d have been a gonna by the age of 35. He’s a young lad, done a silly thing (who didn’t when they were in there younger years), inthe words of the Holy Bible “let he who has not sinned cast the first stone”.

Yes, just like Berkshire Bill, I smelt something fishy from the start. The timing of this revelation rings alarm bells – why now? And who grassed on him? And don’t tell me that AC Milan didn’t know about his addiction before selling him – that’s a joke! I hope we knock the stuffing out of them in the next game (without Tonali)!

Hes been had from day one from leaving italy, so what we saying is he should be given a harsh punishment? Lets face it, hes not the only premiership player thats had a gamble on sports or football and maybe has a gambling addiction…..loads of players have, i thought the way the players, staff and supporters handled saturday in total support for sandro was nothing short of fantastic. Well done everybody
