BBC pundit predicts Luton vs Newcastle – Nail on the head on Howe’s current challenge?

Chris Sutton is backing Newcastle United to come away from Luton with a hard-fought and much-needed 2-1 win tomorrow afternoon.

In his latest piece for the BBC, the former Blackburn striker picks out an intriguing stat comparing the two sides, revealing that Luton’s home record – one win, two draws and five defeats – is identical to our away record so far this season.

Personally, that came as quite a surprise, as Luton have been competitive at home so far and often seem tough to beat, yet our away form has been the third poorest in the league, with only two sides collecting less than our five points.

Sutton also nails it on Newcastle’s current Premier League predicament, feeling Eddie Howe must address our struggles on the road if we want to challenge for the top four this season – but feels we’ll go into Christmas on a high with three points at Kenilworth Road. Here’s what he’s had to say:

First and foremost, it’s a relief that Luton captain Tom Lockyer is in a stable condition after his collapse during the Bournemouth game.

Luton have been really competitive at Kenilworth Road but they have still only won one out of eight league matches there this season, and picked up five points in total.

Mind you, Newcastle’s away form is hardly convincing either – it is actually identical to Luton’s home record in terms of wins and points, so there is plenty of room for improvement.

Eddie Howe’s side have got to address that if they want to challenge for the top four – and I think they will address it here, although it is going to be close.

Sutton’s prediction: Luton 1-2 Newcastle
