Jason Tindall hopes to build on “confidence” of Villa result as Newcastle face Luton

Talking to media in the place of unwell Eddie Howe, Jason Tindall hailed the Toon’s recent performances and called on his players to build on the “confidence” the win against Villa provided.

Newcastle became the first away team to win at Villa Park since February 2023 with their win at the weekend and Tindall believes the pick up in form comes from more training sessions between games.

“We have had a lot more contact time on the training pitch with the players and I think that has shown in our last two performances,” Tindall said.

“We have come off the back of a difficult schedule, the last two results have given us a lot of confidence and hopefully we can build on that. The mood has been great.”

Newcastle come into the Luton clash with only one win in their last five league games. But the Mags have won three of the last four in all competitions and have progressed to the Fifth Round of the FA Cup.

Luton beat Newcastle in the reverse fixture at the end of last year, and Tindall believes the Hatters deserve plaudits for their recent performances, including a recent 4-0 thrashing of Brighton.

“You have to give Luton a lot of credit. They have been on a really good run, they have shown they are a hard team to play against, they are a dangerous team,” Tindall said.

“Credit to Luton for the way they have been performing, but our main focus is on us and we want to go out there and get the best result.”

The Toon play Luton at St James’ Park in a 3pm kick-off on Saturday.
