Today’s transfer speculation round up.

Beckham rumoured to be interesting Newcastle.
Well it is that time of the year again, which I and many others call silly season. The transfer window brings with it a whole host of rumours and links to players moving between clubs, but in reality most of it passes by without ever becoming true. Which is why I thought that perhaps the best way to address all of these rumours is by combining them into one piece wherever I can. As you are probably aware, this is Newcastle United, and we are seldom short on potential signings, if you listen to the press anyway.

First up is the news that Newcastle could be in line to take David Beckham on loan from LA Galaxy, and steal him from underneath the noses of Tottenham Hotspur. The Journal believes that Newcastle are interested in the player, but I believe that any notion of signing the former England captain is fanciful at best.

Interestingly, that same article suggests that Newcastle have actually bid for Robbie Keane, which would add to our striking options and is something that Alan Pardew has hinted that he will be looking at.

Perhaps the most telling part of that is the bit where Pardew says that he has spoken to Tottenham and that both clubs are looking to move in the transfer market. Perhaps a double deal for Robbie Keane and David Bentley could be on the cards after all?

Who knows? Perhaps a move for Adel Taarabt from QPR could float your boat? Well according to the Daily Mail, a move could be on the cards for the QPR captain who has scored 11 goals in 23 games so far this season.

Taarabt is highly rated by a lot of people and it seems only a matter of time before he is playing Premier League football. The problem here is that QPR look as though they could very well be playing Premier League football as early as next season, so perhaps Adel will want to stay put in show the team that has given him the chance to flourish a bit of loyalty.

Interestingly, the same paper has us down as being interested in Valeri Bojinov. The former Manchester City striker would bolster our attack, but I also feel that we could do a bit better. Put it this way, who would you rather have? Robbie Keane or Valeri Bojinov?

Stephane Sessegnon is another name that is being linked with us. The Daily Mail reports that the PSG midifelder could be on his way to us after falling out with his current boss. Apparently, Sessegnon spat the dummy after being swore at in training by his current boss, which caused the French midfielder to launch into an expletive-filled rant to the French press and claiming that he will never play for PSG again. Sounds like a lovely chap….

I think that just about covers all of the rumours from the press so far today. I’m sure there will be more though, so if you hear of anything let us know!

  1. Bentley always struck me as being more about Bentley than the team?

Keane isn’t getting games for a reason unless the terms are great I’d rather look elsewhere

Taarabat looks a player but QPR would be mad to let him go

Not sure I liked Pardew giving the world all the information in his interview – I liked Chris’s say nowt approach

  2. Taarabt looks good doesn’t he, excited by that, but only as a squad player for now, we need some players who are proven and can come in and do a job from the first game.

  5. Don’t know about anyone else but I get much more pleasure out of signing a Tiote or HBA for peanuts (which is dam hard work) than trotting out lame lines and platitudes to other teams cast offs. If they aint good enough for Spurs they aint good enough for US otherwise we are building a team to be beneath them if you get my drift.

Pardews lines also suggest it WAS Chris hughton who led the way in the cheaper signings NOT Carr? Time will tell I suppose

  8. I agree. They were unknown quantities who had it all to prove, so in that respect the only way was up.

Signing a star, which is nice, there can only ever be two outcomes. They either stay the same and produce, or don’t produce. Basically there is no chance of them surpassing expectations.

  10. Anyone notice how Dorans was the talk of the town in the summer but hasn’t really been up to much so far this season.
Dont know if he’s not been playing or owt like

  11. ILM – I said that sometime earlier in the season. A classic case of a player to good for The Championship but not good enough to make a mark in the PL.

Think Huckerby, Chopra, even Routledge to an extent.

  15. KK to be fair its not often Batty gives an opinion that he believes in – he just sits there with a couple a hundred fishing rods out!

  16. Henry Winter just put on his twitter that he’s just saw Barton’s tackle from yesterday and that it was a ‘bad one’ and that a ‘Leppord can’t change it’s spots’.
    What a f’kin ***!

  17. yeah he likes his fishing do’s batty he used to use a worm but as jay jay says its a maggot now.
I know its an old one but i will accept 11 decent players giving 100% rather than a team full of stars that dont think they need to give their all.

  18. Bandwagons are easy to ride on ILM especially when you get well paid for playing to the crowd.

Its a shame that well thought out objective opinions are increasingly rare.

Its far harder work to do that though, and they get paid the same anyway. Just shows him as lazy and a mercenary.

Think a yellow was the right thing – his heel was up but was aimed and focussed at the ball

  19. Good job I live near a bell tower Batty – when the bandwagon comes a hunting I will sit up there and pick em off one at a time! 😉

  20. Hearing a bit of gossip that one of the spurs players we are after is ohara. Just Twitter talk though.

  21. Hi everybody. Recognise every single name on here from somewhere lol. Nice blog toonsy. Hope this will be a good blog wiv no *** for tat ect. 🙂

      (Quote)

  22. That is part of the aim, but ***-for-tat is part and parcel of the internet. As long as everyone respects that not everybidy thinks the same, and that it doesn’t get out of hand or personal, then it’s fine by me 🙂

  23. Bonjour DJG – I think O’Hara is a great shout but isn’t he more a central midfielder than a winger?

      (Quote)

  24. Well theres no bitterness from me towards anybody and I will go on all the blog’s (even Ed’s 🙂 ). Considering the amount of work you were putting in I think it’s only fair that you have your own blog and not be effectively 2nd in command somewhere. Not something wor Edward would settle for methinks. 😆

  26. I gueesed that. I don’t mind really. I just don’t wany Worky to find out from anyone else other than me. I owe him that.

      (Quote)

  27. Says on Newsnow they won’t consider people for 6 months 🙁

DJG – It will pick up anyway. Remember, I’m keeping it quiet at the minute.

  28. Does worky not know already? He hinted to it in a post on .org. Was that not him in the first thread lyk, someone pretending to be him? lol
