Ashley or Llambias – Which one is the biggest problem?

Who is the bigger gripe with?
The answer to the question posed in the title will no be something along the lines of “both of them” from some. Fair enough.

Each person who dislikes the pair running our club at the moment has their own reason for it. For some the relationship between fan and board is beyond repair and the wound will only start to heal when the pair of them leave Newcastle for good.

The fans are split, maybe not 50-50, but there is a definite chasm between two sets of fans. The common ground is that they all want what is best for NUFC although the sticking point seems to be how to go about it and who they would like to implement it.

This division between fans is not great to be honest, but it’s something that will go on and on until everyone is happy. Unfortunately that very rarely happens in life, and at Newcastle United it’s even more of a rarity. In fact the only two times in my lifetime the fans, board and team have been pulling on the same direction was under Keegan’s first spell and then again briefly under Sir Bobby, although even what he achieved wasn’t good enough for some and he became a victim of a minority of boo-boys.

I’m digressing now so I’ll get back on point….. The rift between fan and board is beyond repair for some, but it doesn’t mean that things can’t be made that little bit easier. To do that though you need to pinpoint the main part of the problem and eradicate it. For that problem is Derek Llambias.

Now let me clarify before I get some smartarse legal eagle on my case. By eradicate Derek Lambias I don’t mean kill, murder, injure or anything like that. I purely mean get him out of his comfy MD chair at St James’ Park and get him back to doing whatever it is he does best. If I was to guess at what he does best I’d say it would be looking sleazy, acting sleazy and generally being a sleaze.

I can’t stand him. I think he is an odious horrible man with a complex ego and an arrogant persona. In the world of football he’d should fit in well, but for some reason he just doesn’t.

Now I know a lot of people despise Ashley for all he has done and his past actions and so on, but at least he has the ability to put things right. Llambias doesn’t. Can somebody please tell me what he does other than repeatedly put his foot in it?

Now whilst the rift may be too big for some, I personally believe that by replacing Llambias with someone better would give a welcome boost to many fans. Think about it. People liked Chris Mort, and still do, yet he was up to the same old shady stuff that Dekka is. He was just infinitely more likeable in the process of doing so!

Llambias is the one who is responsible for the day-to-day running of the club. He makes the decisions and sorts the contracts. Naturally he’ll be under guidance from above, but you can bet that it’s him who is making these contract offers that are getting turned down.

That is why I think Llambias is the biggest part of the problem. Ultimately the decision is at the top as Ashley hired him, but to try and make amends he should also fire him and get someone in who can engage with fans and not be a general buffoon. It’ll never happen though as Llambias is somehow trusted by Ashley.

Stiil, it was nice to get that off my chest 😉

  1. The problem has been Shepherd and the debt he left. Ashley has kept the club alive and the majority will not accept this. He is doing what is best for NUFC, watch the quality of signings coming in. A self made wealthy man, he knows the higher the league position, the more Sky monies are earned, and the riches of European football beckon. Sports Direct will also benefit. Ashley will get it right, have faith, the real villain is Shepherd- £17M for Owen!!!!

  2. Think about a few things here about how our club is running….how we think it should be run…….what we would like it to be doing….

These 3 thoughts will determine what most fans would want. “I’ll explain”.

If you think the club should be run within it means and pushing along nicely under it’s own steam, then, we have the best owner and staff that we would really ask for .

How it should be run: If you think the club should be run by bringing in major signings in all positions so that we can compete “now” no matter what, with little regard to how we nurture young talent for the future of the club, then you will need an owner like Sir John Hall and a Manager like Keegan.

What we would like it to be doing: If you are in this group, who would like the club to spend “big” on expensive signings with wages to match which can guarantee you at least to be there or there-abouts at the end of the season, then you need a rich Arab with an undying hobby of doing that and also hoping he doesn’t get bored easily which if he did, would set the club back 20 years in terms of getting back on it’s feet.

For me, the first option “the one we have now” is the best option we could have hoped for and i’m only too pleased that Ashley has a big pair of shoulders on him to actually have rode all this turmoil out.

A big thumbs up to Ashley. 😀

  3. Kevin Gameiro looks poor to me, but considering how **** this match is, I am not sure it is fair to judge anyone on this.

  4. Johno without going over old ground Mort said KK was incharge of transfers and would have the final say on all ins and outs, but there was players brought in that he didn’t want and it did come out in court that they lied to the public. Mort was behind them lies .

  5. Kevin Gameiro says he wants to go to Valencia…It’s aall ower German text that Miroslav Klose will move to Valencia on a free transfer….that’s young Kevin cattled then……

  6. MM aye mate saw that this morning (ssn),there saying vaencia are skint, looking for freeb -ies 😕

  7. icedog…Miro Klose would be an excellent freebie, proven goalscorer and still fit as a butchers dog…He just cannae get past Mario Gomes at FC Bayern…who scored a shed load of goals last season…

Hope the Lille lad Gervinho comes to the toon, Gameiro not so sure…

  8. Brilliant shot there by Gameiro on the turn there…

  9. all the Sapnish clubs except Barca and Madrid are skint. Even Villareal are trying to sell Rossi just to get some funds

  10. Ok, slightly off topic, but does anyone else think that all of Gameiro’s talk about “preferring” Spain, though no spanish clubs are in for him, and “preferring” champion’s league footy could well be smoke and mirrors designed to keep other Prem clubs off his doorstep? Maybe Pardew is up to a cheeky little plan…. Still think we’ll see KG in black n white.

    Funky Jesus-

Think of it like this: school just let out for summer and you have a “friendly” maths competition a week later. How hard are you gonna try like? lol 😉

  12. MM- doesn’t Klose only score goals for the nat’l team though? he’s had his chances at Bayern in the past…

      (Quote)

  13. Gamerio hasn’t really done much he had one shot at the end of the first half. Looks like he needs good service into feet. Wins very little in the air, can’t really hold the ball up and isn’t suited to playing as a lone striker. He’s like a Micky Owen type striker.

Cabaye actually looks like the one worth signing for the premier league. He’s is a bit like Tiote, gives some fouls away and gets involved. He gets the ball out of his feet and passes it like Tiote, takes all the corners and looks like a good passer. Him and Tiote could be the two defensive midfielders in a 4-3-3 or the two central midfielders in a 4-4-2.

  14. kin hell you get some sun on your back with and try to calm down after that farcical end to the season and were signing gervinho a french international and a replacement leftie.

Is this the sign of a plan taking shape or media bollocks ??

  15. Big Dave…no I’m not banned mate. I just read you’re appeal earlier this evening to Clint, who seems to be a steady lad, and I couldn’t believe the reasons why you were supposedly banned.

I got some real stick and abuse on there yesterday from 3 blokes in particular, and one of my comments was “selectively moderated” to give a completely false picture of what I was actually saying. By the same token the blog moderator should be giving those blokes the yellow card at least…

Typical though mate…when they get forced into a corner the three blokes in question revert to personal abuse. The rest of the lads on there tend to post some sense, Hugh, Clint and the like, the three other blokes in question just like to be abusive..

      (Quote)

  16. MM,your not saying gamerio is no better than what we have?dont think the lad will be putting himself aboot at this stage a injury would stuff a move up no matter where hes going imo,mr KLOSE seems to save him self for his country rather than club goal-wise

      (Quote)

  17. don,t know too much about who,s making the desisions to make a point on it but i know the club is heading back in the right direction with no huge wages any more so that can,t be a bad thing , only thing i don,t like is the way they only have a manager to train the guys and pick a team , AP does,nt have a say in the transfer market imo so i,m just glad our scouts are doing a great job of late

      (Quote)

  18. OH not bad mate yersel, as for Ice he got all the lead from the old folks home but mums the word as Batty would crack if others knew what him and Ice are up to, but I know I can trust you 😆

  19. Valencia are well skint, they halted work on their half built stadium in 2009 and still havn’t restarted it ❗

  20. I honestly think that sometimes our biggest problems are our selfs . We sometimes do overreact to things and tend to blow things out of proportion because we love the club so much , and yes 90% of us do . What i do think is that although Ashley has made some monumental **** ups , no due diligence the hiring of Wise and Keegan the guy does actually want to achieve things with us and try’s to give the fans what they want . Thats why he sacked Fat sam and hired Keegan , Shearer and although he is not everyones cup of tea Pardew . Why Pardew ? well because he is known to get his teams playing attacking football and that is what the Toon Army thrives on and lives for and Ashley knows this . I say , when all said and done he has turned a corner and maybe just maybe Llambiarse although a horrible looking git does know what he is doing with the books and between them will get us back into the top 6 and a cup win in the next couple of seasons . When i think back through the years as a toon fan , they are no worse than most we have all ready had , the Mckeag days were lets face it terrible . So all that said , i now have the riot gear on and have retreated into the bunker 😉

      (Quote)

  21. MDS…you’re dead right mate, Klose scores goals galore for the national team over the last couple of years, whilst at the same time not being in the regular FC Bayern starting line up. That has been the conundrum over the last few years.
Also he wants a two year deal, FC Bayern will only offer a one year deal, he knows he aint gonna oust Mario Gomes from the team, so it looks like he’s outahere….

I thought you might have been banned along with me as he said he banned 2 or 3 that were causing trouble 😆 .

I understand others concerns and I understand and agree that they’ve not done a lot wrong since relegation. But together they aren’t exactly trusted are they? I mean a shake up would perhaps get a few more fans onside. Newcastle. United!

this was just on my mind earlier so I thought I would write about it. Apologies that it doesn’t meet with resounding approval but I can’t please all of the people all of the time 🙂

just kiddin’, i know it’s cos we all love the toon so much..

i’d go so far as to say, that even if Ashley and Lambias do let one or two of our favorites go, i think they deserve our faith, that they are doing things for long-term good of the club…

ok we all hated when Carroll left, but that 35 mill could make the difference between us struggling next season, or pushing for Europe. they gotta make hard decisions that no true toon fan could ever make.

to summarise, i think after all the **** they’ve taken, i think they do deserve a few more voices of support.. everyone was pretty quick to deride them…..

      (Quote)

  31. Toonsy…the trust has been broken, and to be honest a lot of it has been there own doing unfortunately.

  40. Funnily enough, this little paragraph fits in with the article too, bearing in mind this was just after the Carroll sale

“I will make my decision come the summer when I see how much he invests back into the team but I think the main problem at NUFC isn’t Mike Ashley….it’s Derek Llambias. As I have mentioned, Llambias has been party to all the major negative stories at NUFC and it’s time this was highlighted and something was done about it.”

Well done for highlighting it Sy 😉 😀

      (Quote)

  41. I think the bottom line is that neither Ashley nor Llambias are Geordies and do not share the emotional attachment to the club that most fans have. This allows them to be what they are first and foremost – businessmen. As we all know, businessmen are not generally known for being especially nice guys, but they do have their financial heads screwed on and I think they want success as much as the fans do. Once the fans and the board accept each other for being who and what they are, and the club achieves an increased measure of success, all will be (very) well at the Toon and much will be forgiven on both sides.

  42. The thing with Wenger and **** is that they have a top striker and that is the way Wenger likes to play. On past history Gameiro wouldn’t get many games think Eduardo, Vela, Chamahk, Bendtner.
Someone should tell Gamiero this and direct him to the North East

  45. jobey07 maybe PSG arn’t as rich as we thought . I have read that the Qatar group have bought 70% of the club and not the whole club , meaning they probably wont throw the same sort of money about as Man citeh or Chelsea or Liverpool . The guys first choice club are skint so we could still get him .

      (Quote)

  46. I just cant understand why MA wouldn’t want the best for us as we know he likes money and the better we are the more money he will get. I really dont think he settles for run of the mill I think he wants to have the best of things, I just think he has went about it all wrong but I still feel he would have a easier time if he got a proper footie man in instead of the streaker 😀

      (Quote)

  47. Paul in Hollywood, you’re spot on there, Ashley didn’t get where he is today by giving out “group hugs”..

At the same time, Ashley has taken a lot of abuse over the last years (rightly or wrongly so), so has obviously decided to say nowt to the fans. Though it’s a pity, the communication probably aint gonna improve any time soon..

      (Quote)

  48. The thing with lambarse for me is his programme notes. he goes against the thoughts and wishes of the majority for sure he wouldn’t win any popularity contests.

  49. @ Toonsy, comment 110.

great ‘blog mate. the issue with this article is that it’s not really constructive for toon fans, or for NUFC as a whole.

after a long time it seems that the optimism about nufc is starting to grow. i think i haven;t been this hopeful about NUFC for about 13 years. and as a team, we have more chance of being successful if we’re united. the vibe that emanates from ‘blogs such as these spreads a long way…

you have a great site here.. i was just disappointed that after all the positive news about possible signings etc and the club looking like going forward (again next season), a negative article about the guys running the show comes up…when they’re doing a decent job – just look at the other premiership/ x-prem teams.

just like the roar of the fans in the stadium can push the team forward on the pitch, ‘bloggers such as yourself -but moreso, a newcastle united fan- are in a position to a be a real positive force. we got enough negativity coming from the media, and we don;t need to introduce it among ourselves….

      (Quote)

  50. deepak,

Peter Lovenkrands tends to get most of his shots on target too and he usually gets about 3 a game. Yet people say he is a passenger as he doesn’t offer much else – why is this guy exempt from that same criteria? Because he would cost a lot?

The fact is, outside one great shot, he has done **** all. Is that what you expect from a £10m+ striker who is only getting his fourth international cap?

Friendly or not, if you’re still that new to playing for your country, you should be doing more.

To be honest mate there isn’t really that much positives atm apart from rumours. and as there is no footie to talk about, but then as I have found with our club there is lots of topics that can be seen as positives or negatives depending on which side of the fence you sit 😉

Chances of getting him? Well I don’t think so but someone at the club seems to think he might come as their not taking no for an answer it would seem.
