Captain Colo backs attackers

Captain Colo rallies the troops.
The pretty blatant lack of attacking threat from Newcastle has been highlighted numerous times already so far this season.

We may be unbeaten in four games but few can deny that we’ve not been at our sparkling best when it comes to attacking the opposition goal. Personally I feel that it’s just a matter of time before things start to click and we start to see a more creative side, although I do understand those who are erring on the side of caution and have real concerns about current lack of potency in front of goal.

Captain Coloccini is not one that you could put in the latter group however as today he has come out and said that he believes that we’ll start to see more attacking over Newcastle United over the next few games.

Maybe he is just doing a Captain’s job by trying to inspire a bit of confidence? I mean he is hardly going to come out and say that all of our attackers are awful is he? Let’s take a look at what he told the Northern Echo.

“I do not have any worries about our attacking,” said Colo. “I know we have a side that is capable of creating chances and scoring goals and you will see that in the next few games.”

“It was difficult on Monday because I thought QPR played a very good game and prevented us from creating too many chances. They pressured the ball very well.”

“But I don’t think there is any issues in terms of us creating things – we scored three goals in the two games before that. We have very good creative players. We have strong attackers and strong midfielders – I really don’t think there will be a problem in terms of scoring goals.”

It seems as though Colo doesn’t share the same concerns that some fans have. Perhaps he knows something we don’t? Maybe he has seen enough in training to come to that conclusion?

Whilst I don’t think we are playing the best, most fluent football at the moment, I do think it’s going to improve over time. In my opinion we are paying the price for using a sledgehammer to tinker with the team over the summer.

In reality all that was needed was a tweak in a few areas, but now we have a virtually all new first team, and even if only some of the players are new they’ll still need to learn how the rest of the team plays, and, of course, vice-versa.

Maybe Colo knows better? Maybe these are just Captain’s words?

What do you think?

  1. I hope he’s right, but I don’t quite share his confidence. I don’t expect us to score quite as freely as last season (6-0 Villa comes to mind) but I’m hoping we will find more resilience and consistency, with far more options available.

Best is looking good, Benny’s coming back soon, Sammy’s a good prospect and if Ba gets anything like as good as he was last season, we’ve actually got better striker stats than most teams.

Let’s not read too much into the QPR match; I think we were beaten on strategy rather than squad in that one, but still managed to scrape a point and keep Krul relatively light on saves to make.

  2. Would expect Colo to be positive, as you said he`s hardly going to come out and slate our strikers. Would hope the reference to seeing it in the next few games is more based around a change of system and abandoning the 442. Could also have something to do with Ben Arfa coming back which will give us a bit more creativity and attacking threat sitting behind either Best or Ba.

  3. As I commented earlier when I heard this quote from Colo . It’s a typical captains speech which is utter bollocks.

I’ve never seen such an ineffectual midfield and forward line for many a year.

His comments are based purely on hope.

  4. Mmm captain colo pleasing the crowd there!
Troy – I would have to agree we have scored goals for fun in the last two years but there’s nowt we can do but just hope what we have got keeps us going till jam

  5. I’d love it to be Colo seeing something spectacular, but I feel that these are just Captain’s words 🙁

I do think we’ll improve though, it’s just a question of how much.

What do yous expect him to say ?
He’s trying to put a positive spin on things in order to keep the fans onside.
Yes it may well be utter tripe, or they may be working hard to make it happen.
Troy your negativity is getting boring and predictable. Next you’ll be attacking other bloggers and the few writers Toonsy has left, followed by a short ban.
Dont say you haven’t been warned.
You might want to think up a new user name for your third reincarnation.
Why do you keep on repeating your same points over and over and over.
We hear you, we get that you are pessamistic about everything that is going on at the club. You doubt the quality of the players we have, fair enuff, you’re entitled to your opinion, but ffs give it a rest bud.
Most of us are getting by with a little HOPE that things will improve.
Its not a fucking crime you know. Yes we are deluded, living in cuckoo land, we have been for fucking years.
But what we dont need is you and your ilk rubbing it in our faces.
We pay wor money to watch the Toon and support whoever it is that takes to the pitch. We dont and never have had a choice of who plays, who we sell or who we buy. There’s **** all you or I can do about it.
If you dont like it then why bother?
Christ on a bike. Get a grip man.
    I think I’m done here.

If anyone deserves a ban then you should have talked yourself into one with that pathetic rant based directly at me and my comment is directed at Colo.

I say how I see it and you are entitled to not to read my posts.

    Jog on.

  9. Woo hoo hoo hoo
I’ve just re read your post and your line ” it may well be utter tripe ” is exactly what I’m saying.

Some people make me laugh. Woo hoo hoo hoo

  10. The trouble is you infest every article with the same spiel, often with a repeat of the same posts. It gets boring, and is clearly just attention seeking.
If your comments are directed at Colo, then I suggest you write to him @ SJP. I doubt very much he will take the time to read your drivel on here.

Or are you too thick to realise that?

  12. BB you have a bad day mate 🙂
Cant believe Santon is out, but I must say hindsight and all that when you look at how many games he has played over the last few years there was a chance there was something not right, I thought it was his head but maybe it wasn’t as I see he has had a knee prob before. I just hope it isn’t along lay off.

  13. I notice how you totally destryed Zoe’s article on NUWFC too.
    Yet more attention seeking.
So little respect for someone who took the time to do research and then write an aricle.
    Pathetic.

If you noticed on Zoes article I thanked her for doing the article and suggested running another topic as it wasn’t getting many hits.

Toonsy was struggling with writing topics. No one has to join in but many did.

Every word I write are my true beliefs.

You sound like a big girls blouse the way you are going on. Embarrassing 😉

  15. This is what I wrote on her thread as it wasn’t everyone’s cup of tea.

I hate to do this cos you’ve done a good article but because Toonsy is busy I would like to throw open another issue which may provoke debate.

The actual subject I brought up created a good bit of banter.

Now go to the nearest mirror and repeat these words ” Bootsy is a chump and I’ve embarrassed myself with my girly hissy fit ”

Only stop when it sinks in. 😉

“I notice how you totally destryed Zoe’s article on NUWFC too.”

Must admit, that bit irks me a little. I mean was there really any need to drag an article back to the same repeated points so soon?

      (Quote)

  17. Having said that, I can’t really dictate what people chat about.I just think, as BB says, that giving an article some time, especially one that has required a lot of research etc, is a bit more respectful.

  18. BB’s rant does not make sense, contradictory and actually accepts my views BUT doesn’t like the fact I’m saying them.

    Very strange.

Nah I guess not as Batty isn’t involved , right Lads into your corners take a breath and get a drink and a rub down,

  21. Troy – BB’s had a bad day at the office. Comes home and finds Santon injured, and you ridiculing our midfield and forward line. Cut him some slack.
Did you hear that Santon has a new role for the next few months. Aye, he’s modelling Trevor Francis tracksuits for Sports Direct.

  25. Watching PSG give Salzburg the business in Europa. They took off Erdinc for Gameiro in the 63rd. One can only wonder about what could have been. Lets hope Ba and Best can stay fit and hold the line.

We might not have the blowouts and ‘edge of your seaters’ like last season, but if we can get some consistency and draw games we would have lost last season I will be content.

  26. B+B @ 30 you miss fuk all our kid 🙂
Ice glad you got it all sorted mate, though I thought Batty would have been round helping you, but then I guess he is too busy helping the Fatman out now that he is a judas

  29. The first thing Pardew might try is to leave Ameobi out of the starting lineup. Ba has to get more playing time. Cabaye was invisible against QPR and I noticed Tiote try to push forward a few times to support the attack. It would seem right now we don’t actually have an ACM so why not try Marveaux in that role? I don’t think Gosling is ready as we have discussed recently and Vuckic is injured again (surely a hand injury can’t keep him out very long). We need to try 4-5-1 against Villa and surely we should bring in Ferguson and bench Raylor after his last performance. Get Best up front with Marveau and Obertan in behind. Bring Ba in early if Best isn’t showing enough. How much more of the Ameobi horror show are we expected to endure?

      (Quote)

  30. Ice and its better than the words of the last Captain that thought we needed him to tell us to get behind the Lads and give them our support, the fat useless fuking bastad 🙂

  31. Geordie2 I would drop Tiote for a game as he is not what he was last yr and I really dont think its got owt to do with other players, I just think its his own game has dipped ( ramadan ) rub a dup or whatever.
I would play Gosling and Marv with the 5 in MF and play Best up top

  32. DAVE i agree, let the west/spam fans hear his ****,maybe they wont as they dont seem happy with him at the mo,must be hard wondering what to spend all that money on

      (Quote)

  33. Ice – West Ham fans aren’t happy with Nolan at all. Same old accusations as he faced here – goes missing, game passes him by, slow, fat, lazy, can’t tackle…..

      (Quote)

  34. I would say you are right Big Dave. Some of Tiote’s passing has been atrocious in the first few games. I hate to say it but it looks like we are already missing Barton to me. He turned the ball over and started many attacks for us. He is going to be hard to replace with what we have. I’m not sure Cabaye knows what his role is for us yet. We are definitely missing a spark in attack but the midfield support going forward has actually been getting worse not better. Is Pedro in shape? I swear he could still play better than some of our players. Maybe bring back Nobby Solano as well. Just kidding but I wish we had players of their calibre to turn to now.

      (Quote)

  35. Big Dave – Tiote may not be looking as assured as he did last year, but he is getting stuck into the fray. He is our main man in midfield. At the moment we are carrying Cabaye. The games are passing him by, and he looked particularly lost against QPR. He needs to adapt quickly. Unfortunately, he reminds me of Hugo Viana in terms of his lack of pace and general ineffectiveness.

      (Quote)

  36. Dave…I can still tackle……the fact that the ball has gone by the time I get there is neither here nor there 👿

  37. i know tiote hasnt been the best at the mo but i think that can be said of a few imo, there doesnt seem a blend yet the flow just not right hopefully they just need time i did say i would give them 8/10 games and then judge, luckly we have the points when playing poorly should improve hopefully

  39. The huge turnover of players is really hitting us hard now. We lack confidence in the centre of the pitch. The strikers will be lost without service. Too many individual efforts and no concerted attack. We needed some quick one touch football to beat QPR’s pressing of the ball. We are not a great team in the air so lobbing the ball at the forwards just doesn’t work. We looked completely lost as to how to attack QPR’s defense and it was rare to see us complete 2 passes in a row. Pardew has a lot of work to do before Saturday. We need to see a much better team effort against Villa.

I believe Tiote is suffering because of Cabaye.

  43. Tiote has no outlet. Cabaye should be demanding the ball from him , but time after time he’s looking around and Cabaye is hiding. That’s why Tiote is getting caught in possession .

Is Tiote not allowed to pass to anyone else like? Must it be Cabaye at all times? Is that why Tiote has struggled to pass to any of the other 9 Newcastle players on the pitch?

  47. The problem lies in to many players finding their feet in a new team, playing new systems. We have players playing out of position, although I think performances will get better the more they get used to each others game. Fair play to Collo for his optimism but From what I have seen so far I don’t hold much hope of any one of our forwards getting into double figures. Best maybe but he needs service.
