Blackburn 0-2 Newcastle – Match highlights and managerial interviews

Match highlights of the 2-0 over Blackburn Rovers for you now, followed by what the respective managers had to say after the game.

Alan Pardew was left praising his sides spirit after a win which by all accounts probably shouldn’t have been a win. James Perch as also the beneficiary of some praise after a cracking performance as the anchor man last night.

Meanwhile Steve Kean was left frustrated after watching his side waste a whole host of chances although he admits that he won’t have too much trouble picking his side up after the defeat given the way that his team played.

Howay the lads!

  1. Nobby…never a moments doubt in my mind 😉
Neither of the Managers interviews will play for me 🙁

  2. none of them will play for me as i’m at work, but i have an amazing memory so it doesn’t really matter

  3. Battling stuff, and you do wonder how many we could have scored with our two main strikers in place.

Then again, if they’d had THEIR main striker, I think it would have been very different too.

The bit that boils my **** is the cheating. The FA are such an amoral bunch of bastards, they’ll come down like a ton of wet bricks for some name calling (Suarez), do Cabaye for something that at worst could break someone’s fingernail, but… trying to cheat in a way that could effect the outcome of a game and therefore lead to the wrong team being relegated and losing tens of millions? Fine. They’re fine with that. Just fine.

This is why football carries no respect in sport. It doesn’t deserve any. Cos it’s run by crooks.

    Ranty ranty.

  4. I only caught about 30 odd scattered minutes of it on a shitty stream, but from what I saw Blackburn looked all over us and we were toothless upfront, I caught Obertan’s goal though.

The main thing is we kept a clean sheet anyway.

    Did we just get lucky?

…can’t wait until Sunday anyway, and the prospect of seeing Ba and Cisse upfront. Then Cabaye and Tiote to return shortly after that, also bearing in mind we’ve still got Saylor and Marveaux to come back. We’ve got a pretty fkn awesome side really, when everyone’s aboot!

  5. Richie –

Pardew – “We were canny ****, Perch was canny when he came on but we deserved the win because I’m a silver fox. Did you see that lush lass I was getting into in Tenerife? She let me have a go in her tradesman’s entrance! Ha Ha!”

Steve Keane – “We were mint, how we’re not top of the league I’ll never know! I don’t understand how home fans hate me and think I’m delusional in every single post match commentry i give out. If Chris Samba and Yakubu was playing we would of scored 20 goals…. we lost? ****… I thought we won.”

  7. Just been scanning upcoming fixtures over the next 5 weeks or so –

    Toon – villa (h), spurs (a), wolves (h), mackems (h), **** (a)
    L’pool – spurs (h), manu (a), CUP, **** (h), mackems (a)
    **** – bburn(h), mackems (a), spurs (h), l’pool (a), toon (h)

Couple of interesting things to note here….

    1. on paper, we’ve got the easier fixtures
    2. lliverpool will have to deal with fixture congestion due to cup runs and we’ll have the chance to get points on the board and open a gap
    3. All 3 clubs have the chance to take points off each other
    4. the mackems play all 3 of us…. and will have a good chance at closing the gap and getting in the mix for the euro spots themselves (scary)

  8. Nobby, I could fire up the old time-machine I’ve got in the cellar. I think my marmoset wheel may have produced enough special coal by now, they’ve been running on it since March 2013.

  9. Richie im on my phone so dont know if the interviews will work, but they havn’t played before for me so try bbc they normally have them.
Rod I think we were real lucky except for the Oba goal, but if we were playing a good team we would have been getting hammered before Oba got his goal.

  10. That’s what I deduced Dave, cheers.

Mind you, just as if they’d been playing Yakubu we’d have most likely conceded, if we’d been playing Tiote, Cabaye, Ba and Cisse we’d have creamed them I’m sure! 😆

to be fair to ourselves, we fielded a pretty weak side from midfield up.

I was watching Phil Thompson on SSN, who wouldn’t stop ranting about how useless we were, he seemed gutted we won. Haha, stupid fkin scouser. 😎

      (Quote)

  11. “if we were playing a good team we would have been getting hammered”

    Not necessarily, Big Dave

I watched the Mackems (*spits*) get battered by the best team in the country for 93 mins before scoring a 94th minute winner just a few weeks ago!

    That’s football mate.

      (Quote)

  12. TC that was my opinion mate you don’t have to agree. 😉 maybe I should have said ‘could have been getting hammered’ rather than would have

      (Quote)

  13. Wooooo – someone got out the wrong side of bed this morning!! 😆

Have a look at the league table Dave – that might cheer you up a bit! 😉

      (Quote)

  14. Dave@18, I get your point mate. Football’s a game of rammed full of coulds and woulds though, but I guess the most important thing is we got 3 points.

    YAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYYYYYY! 😆

      (Quote)

  15. Wasn’t Phil Thompson embarrassing last night. For someone who is supposed to show a neutral perspective in front of the cameras at least his emotional reaction to seeing his beloved reds being overtaken by …. Newcastle! (spit) …. was amusing to some but pretty unpleasant to the majority of Toon fans. Even my wife who is a Scot with no affinity to football or the Magpies (despite being force fed for the last 30 years) said it was good to see his ridiculous face when chance after chance went begging.

      (Quote)

  16. Tony Toon, it was a bit off wasn’t it. He was getting a trifle over-excited 😆 I almost hoyed mi shoe at the telly on a number of occasions. Mind you, they’ve not got much of a choice on their panel. Paul Merson makes my **** boil.

      (Quote)

  17. Rob I knew you would get the drift of what I was saying 😉
TC yeah mate I did get out the wrong side our we lad was up all night with growing pains in his legs 😕

  18. Where the hell is richie gone? he demands me to act like a performing monkey and write out my memory of the pardew/keane interviews and then p*sses off.

Can whoever runs this blog (weblog) please delete my previous comment@7.

      (Quote)

  19. Rodz…. I know what you mean about Merson – I just can’t take him seriously, he is so thick. The worst of a pretty awful bunch.

      (Quote)

  20. Sorry to hear that Dave. Tho I’m sure it’ll be worth it when he’s 6’5″ and banging headers in left, right and centre for the Toon!! 😉

      (Quote)

  21. ….. and Dave, by the same token we should have won our previous two games out of sight (Fulham 1st half). As Toon Chicken said – thats football, the best performance on the day doesn’t always get the result it deserves.

      (Quote)

  22. For all we were toothless up front for most of the game, we were strong at the back .
What we have to remember is, Blackburn battled like demons and went for the jugular after we scored the deflected goal.
As much as we looked like struggling, you have to credit Blackburn for making us struggle because with our line up, we weren’t gonna trouble them offensively for any sustained period of time without suffering the consequences of it.
The fact that we put Blackburn to bed can be attributed to a steadfast back line and also Blackburns 100% effort to get back into the game which wore them out at the final hurdle and they simply couldn’t handle the two substitutions in Lovenkrands and Obertan.

    To sum it up.
We rode our luck, battled well, got the breaks and secured 3 valuable points against 11 men plus a ref.
All in all, it has to be said, it was an excellent nights work considering the midfield of ours was alien to each other.

  23. I sadly didn’t watch Phil Thompson during the game as wor lass was watching ‘private practice’ and i’m not allowed to commendere two seperate appliances at once 🙁

  24. NOBBY, assert your authority; stand up and raise your voice to her and tell her that YOU WILL get your way and for her to accept that you wear the trousers.

If she stands up and shouts and bawls ” who the hell do you think you are talking to”, then just say, ” calm down dear, I was just joking”, then sheepishly walk out of the room. 😆

      (Quote)

  25. @Wolfie, I’m as happy with the result as anyone, but to call us strong at the back is laughable.

Williamson only managed to stop Hoilett being clear through on goal by wrestling him to the ground. We gave away a penalty and a VERY dangerous free kick location. Modeste should have scored a couple where he was clean through. They had a couple of point blank headers they should have scored – headers they got through shoddy defending.

I think Blackburn are currently playing better than their league position suggests, but we were not strong at the back. Fact is we were very lucky. But then, we’ve been unlucky at times this season too, so it all balances out…

      (Quote)

  26. Can i just say if Blackburn get relegated i won’t shed a tear.

They fall into the ‘I hate them but i’m not sure why’ category 😉

  27. Just to comment on the game. I was watching a poor stream on internet last night which doesn’t help. However, during the second half it occurred to me that I was watching a TEAM (praise to AP) of Journeyman Pros grinding out a win. No stars, No out of place Championship players, but Premiership pros. None would get in the starting 11 of any top team on last nights performance, although we know a few can play better and probably would be starters for us. But to me it showed that we have a stronger squad that we give ourselves credit for.

If that was our starting 11 for the rest of the season we will still pick up points and still be looking at being the best of the rest. However, by the time th international break comes up, we will have 4 Stars back, and hopefully settled on a system that gets the best out of players we have.

Looking forward to part 3 of our season, despite the lack of a new CB.

  29. We were lucky end of and I hope we get loads more luck , blackburn were the better team.
@wolfie , you haven’t answered me in the last couple of days are you standing by what we said , I know what direction the club is headed and you were wrong ?

      (Quote)

  30. BLIP, in any football game, especially away from home, the home team are going to get chances.
The fact that Blackburn had about 15 corners in the match without scoring, tells me that we were strong at the back.
Many many times they attacked us like demons and we were caught out in about half a dozen of those demonic attacks but we stood up to the rest.

Believe me mate, our defence stood up strong.
If we were spot on and never struggled in any game, we would win the league at a canter.
Naturally pacey players will get breaks, even against the best back line in the world but you have to look at the game overall.

Luck plays a massive part in many games, which icludes, defensive mistakes that aren’t punished, goal keepers making the right choice in penalty situations, shots getting a deflection leading to a goal and refereeing favours, plus a simple slippy surface can cost a well drilled defence the points for one slip.

It’s all if’s and buts I know but equally, if the ref had sent of Luiz , in my opinion we would have won the game against Chelsea and probably wouldn’t have lost Taylor and COULD have had us sitting alongside Tottenham in the points stakes.

Football’s a strange game and things never pan out how you want but equally you get your breaks as well, so over a season it usually evens itself out and normally leaves you in a league position that you deserve to be in, good or bad. 😀

      (Quote)

  31. @prem

I disagree , that if that was our first 11 that played last night, that we would be up there looking to be the best of the rest.

No where near. Great result but couldn’t string more than 3 passes together all night.

  32. nobby i agree with you mate, i hate blackburn but for no reason, another team i can’t stand is stoke, hate those wankers with a passion.

      (Quote)

  33. Troy – sadly i disagree… you can’t tell me that we would of been the same team with cabaye, tiote, ba and cisse – that’s over a 3rd of the team.

      (Quote)

  34. Wolfie@45….”Football’s a strange game and things never pan out how you want”
…got to disagree, they panned out EXACTLY how I wanted last night. No injuries or suspensions, 3pts and a clean sheet 😉 😛

      (Quote)

  35. ALEX>>>> YES!!!!!!!!! Stoke i hate almost as much as the mackems. I know why I hate them though – it’s their fans, they go on like its 1980 smashing up stuff and being offensive. Also i think they should be in the championship – sht club, sht manager, sht ground and sht fans.

    sht colours as well 😉

      (Quote)

  36. Ok Troy maybe a bit optimistic there, but without all the Top signings (that were all going to be sold at a profit) that is the team of Pros that we have, and they did OK, and I think they would end up with the sort of points we got last season. high 40s

  37. Off the subject for a minute.
How is this for totally disregarging Nufc as contenders for a Champions League place.
We are currently 5th above Liverpool AND Arsenal yet these are the odds to finish 4th

    Chelsea 1-3
    Liverpool 3-1
    Arsenal 9-2
    Nufc 25-1

    Any gamblers amongst U bloggers?
Im not but a daft 2 quid is goin on.it.
Just thought id let the lads know.

  38. Can’t see what the fuss is about, Wrexham battered Brighton in the cup yet lost, Watford battered Spurs yet lost, Blackburn battered us and lost – happens to every top team, difference between top 6 is that they (we) have goalscorers and can grind out a win when playing badly – no luck involved

      (Quote)

  39. @nobby

    Cross wires me thinks.

I was just disagreeing with Prems point, that if that team we put out last night was our normal starting 11, we would still be up there looking to be the best of the rest.

I accept that with our actual strongest 11 we are justifiably the best of the rest so far.
Still a long way to go but theyve pleasantly exceeded everyone’s expectations this season.

      (Quote)

  40. WayneL, cheers, I love a flutter. That does look good value.
I thought 30/1 on us winning the FA Cup was good value too though and that one fell on its ****. 👿

I suppose your league bet is a good one, as it allows us to slip up once or twice, whereas the FA Cup doesn’t. It may also get 2 of my English pounds.

(my 10/1 treble fell on its **** on Tuesday with fargin Swansea scoring a 90th minute own goal!) – the bastidges.

      (Quote)

  41. WAYNEL – I would agree with Arsenal and Chelsea having better odds, but not Liverpool. They have been lacklustre all season and barely look like top 6 never mind top 4. I think we will beat them with a full strength team when they come to St Jame’s Park.

      (Quote)

  42. Wolfie@48, you ask people to believe you wolfie but how can they you said to me the person who was right about what happened during the window was the person who was correct to the directoin the club was headed and that was me !
So I can’t believe anything you say now I’m afraid and I would ask others to think twice , maybe you have more in common with MA than you think wolfie 😐

  45. Oh Keith stop spoiling the love on the blog 2day, we’re riding high and possibly heading for Europe, and thats without Tiote, Cabaye, Cisse & Ba.

Wolfies optimism is needed on this blog and is a refreshing change.

Isnt 5th and heading for Europe not the right direction?

      (Quote)

  46. KEITH, I couldn’t care less whether you believe me or not, you have your ideas about the regime and I have mine.
If you want to hang onto the fact I said we would spend 25 million then fill your boots mate.
You are a pessimist and I’m a full on optimist as far as what I think the club will spend and who we will bring in but I’m not always gonna be right in what I say am I.
If I was correct in everything I say and all my optimism came to fruition, then we would win every trophy known to football and have the best team on the planet and everything else that’s great to go with it.

There’s a difference between what I think we might spend or how many player we might bring in, using an optimism point of view than me actually seeing with my own eyes and reading between the lines and also standing back and looking at the bigger picture to see that this club is progressing fantastically.

Do you concur that this club is progressing fantastically KEITH, yes or no?
