Does Pardew have a right to tell Liverpool to cut their losses?

Pardew tells Liverpool to cut their losses
I’ve read Alan Pardew’s latest comments regarding Andy Carroll, and I’ve also read some of the reaction from Liverpool fans on the matter.

I’ll quote it all below, but essentially what Alan Pardew is saying is that Liverpool won’t recoup what they paid for Andy Carroll, and I don’t think anyone in a sane frame of mind would be able to deny that.

The reaction from a fair amount of Liverpool fans is that Alan Pardew should not be saying such things, with some even likening his comments to something Harry Redknapp would do, or, if we cast our minds back a little bit further and take off any red tinted glasses that may still be being worn, what Liverpool might have done with Andy Carroll (who knew what terms he was going to be offered prior to asking for a payrise at Newcastle and used an agent hired by Liverpool to conclude the deal, allegedly) or Jose Enrique, who if you recall was a “done deal” months before the transfer was finalised leaving Enrique to play **** for the remainder of his Toon career.

Anyway, this is what Pardew had to say, and what has caused some of the reaction amongst Liverpool fans:

“John Madejski used to say to me about certain players, ‘Just wipe your nose and move on’, and I think Liverpool are going to have to do that with Andy. I think it was obvious as soon as Brendan went into Liverpool that Andy’s time was going to have to be somewhere else. I think it’s quite right we’re involved in that.”

“Whether he comes here is something that I will take or I will leave. It’s a lot of money for Mike, although we’ll obviously be getting a big upside in terms of what we sold him for, and we’ve got three great strikers here already. But of course as the manager, I want the best players I can get.”

I’ll ask again, what is actually wrong with that?

I mean this wouldn’t have come about but for the comments of Andy Carroll’s own manager who pretty much put him in the shop window. The problem is the shop window is full of damaged goods that only might come good again.

At the end of the day we’ve bid, and we’re still in for him according to Pardew himself, which is why he is being asked questions by journalists and why he is answering them, in my opinion, truthfully.

Anyone see a problem with that?

  1. Richie swansea issued a statement last night to that effect saying they were angry liverpool had made approach for allen….

  2. Rich – I was saying Arry should have buttoned it until Pards said he no longer wanted Ba, just like Buck Rodgers has done with Judas. Nee offence intended 😳

      (Quote)

  3. Liam…but did they mention an agreement or are they just generally pissed of about it?

      (Quote)

  4. No they mentioned the agreement specifically that for 12 months no swans player to join liverpool

  5. Liam…ah, out of order if true. Always find those sort of things a bit bizarre because if another club had come in for Allen then surely you’d want as many clubs as possible involved in the bidding to drive the price up more.

  6. On topic-Its just liverpool fans getting shirty that a club is capable of commenting on their players. They’re used to being the ones who comment on other players, and when they do it its flattering for both the receiving club and player….

Probably a bit embarrassed that Pards is telling the complete truth. Who would ever even consider 35mil for Carroll? 😆

  7. i see jabba is going to take charge of our 3 transfer targets today, well thats them fooked then 😀

  8. I don’t give a stuff who else said what about whom; this is not a matter of relativity. This was a minor slip from Pards; he should have stayed this side of the line and not commented on what another club should do. It’s not a biggie, he is still our wickle luv bunnie – but it was a slip into crassness that I’m not comfortable with. End of; move on.

By the way – can we get Southern Red on here when we’re playing Liverpool? It’s nice to get intelligent posts (ok, ones we agree with, but intelligent helps!) from other clubs. We got a lot last season from Spuds fans, I remember. Decent lot.

  9. Richie@72, I think we already pissed them off by asking about a loan. That was taking the ****, undoubtedly. But it’s the squeaking wheel that gets the grease. With regards to the cold sweats, I guess I’ll just have to deal with that if it happens. 😎

…reet, off to buy some crunchy custard. Laters…….

    😛

  10. Ice…who we gonna sign for £2m worth of SD vouchers? …actually him taking charge mightn’t be a bad thing in a way, it’ll either be resolved or move on to the next target …maybe 😕

  11. RICHIE or nee targets so get on with it pardew, while me and owlheed get some more laughs 😆

  12. Rich @81 i think the contract said they couldn’t bid until another club did first. Once someone else did they were free to drive the price up 😉

  13. What we don’t have – is context, here. Pardew was asked a question. He gave an answer – it was blown out of proportion by the southern press. If the scousers want to spit their dummies out over this, then let them keep Andy and see if he fits into their slick pass and move side!! By the way, watching Swansea last season (ie 5000 passes before they got out of their own half) was ******* torturous. Rodgers, you should coach basketball. Maybe then big Andy would get a game.

  14. Just stuck SSN on to see if we’ve signed anyone yet 🙄
Young Hayley is looking mighty fine today 😈

See Kompany has signed a new 6yr deal at City.
I reckon Hummels of Bayern Munich would be a class partner for him.

  15. Dub…So still worthless,alreet Tranmere, we’ll loan you Mr X if you bid £3.50 for Mr Y 😆

  17. A couple of LPool posters on here have short memories…

I agree with the poster who said LPool shouldn’t sell Carroll. I think he was finding a bit of form and it makes no sense to sell low which is what they’d be doing. If he has a good season they’d get twice as much as they could now. And if he doesn’t play well, Lpool can afford his wages another year.

  18. One thing I have noticed is that our club can do nothing right….

If we buy a player cheap – we have ripped the other club off and they won’t deal with us again.
If we pay too much for a player – we got ripped off and we were stupid to have paid that much.
Pardew honestly answers a question – he should just keep his mouth shut.
Pardew stretches the truth – He should just keep his mouth shut.

Damned if you do and damned if you don’t.. 🙂

  20. Nothing like what harry did, did our manager say ba could go out on loan? no its blant to any1 with half a brain hes for sale so how is it the same

  21. They’re just pissed off that we ****** them up the *** 18 months ago and are still going back in for a quickie whenever we feel like it 😉 I’m surprised they have time to moan while they’re busy doing the exact same thing to another club (Swansea).

Excuse me if I don’t feel any sympathy 🙄

  22. Sharpy
Pretty sure Hummels plays for Dortmund. Canny player I agree, got bored on FIFA one time so I started a Career with City, my defence was like this
    ———-Lescott—–Kompany—–Hummels———–
    -Richards——————————————–Clichy-

      (Quote)

  23. MDS@100, I agree, they’d be insane to sell him now after a **** season. Carroll had a poor run of form coming back from an injury, under a **** manager. Not the best time to sell IMO. It’s madness for a club to be so committed to a club acquisition (35 million pounds worth of commitment) one year, then decide to cut losses after such a short space of time. I don’t know anyway. I think they should keep him for at least a full season under a new manager, but if they want to take a 25m hit on him and sell him back to us then that’s their prerogative.

Reality of it is, they probably won’t be prepared to lose more than £15m on him, and nobody is gona pay £20m for him on the premise of his performances last season. I think they’re stuck with him anyway.

    Reet, I moustache…….. 😎

  25. Andy – 2 days in a row, cheers ‘mate’ … yes you’re right, Hummels is of Dortmund 😳 thanks for correcting me on that 👿 😉

I’m off and bored so am watching Honduras v Morocco in the Olympic game. Canny game but the young Moroccan lad Barrada who we are apparently linked looks good and scored a canny goal.
Not sure if our link is paper talk, coz we have loads of midfielders but he looks a good turn anyway.

  26. Interesting view from Jon R …annnyway,

Just to clarify though, no one at Liverpool has gone on record as saying Carroll is for sale. There has been a fee of £20M brought up by the media, yet no one has been quoted as saying this. Its standard lazy British journalism sadly.

Until Rodgers is quoted/filmed/recorded as saying, “Andy isn’t a part of my plans, so we will be listening to offers for him” its just a lot of speculation.

I know we have said the decisions on this are down to Rodgers and he has said very openly how fantastic he thinks Carroll is, but at the minute, nothing more than that has actually come out of the club.

Its one thing i loathe about ‘silly season’ as the media print what they like and fans of all clubs just whip it into a frenzy that gathers pace instantly but until its on record, i wouldn’t read so much into anything any more really.

The Joe Allen thing isn’t great and i think Swansea are right to be annoyed, but id like to think Rodgers wouldn’t openly go back and screw his club like that having spoken so well of his relationship. There must be something in the agreement that we are not privy to, but if not then i agree, we have no room to complain about Pardew and id rather we did things the right way, although i don’t know many premiership clubs who do, anymore.

  29. Ice, nice one mate, your brother will miss the qld sunshine.. re; aussie $ vs £ well at the moment it is worth around 60¢ to every £ compared to the old 50¢ we used to get 🙂 🙂 stronger but still weak 🙂

  30. Oh and personally, I hope Pards has scuppered the Carroll deal.

Now we can bring some quality in, like Remy 😉

  31. Cumbria – it’s a really good site mate, good crack and generally well balanced debates – nee bitching or name calling or out like that.

Ice – I’d have been doing that visit in reverse mate. You must he ready for so NZ sun after all the Lanchester floods?!

      (Quote)

  32. Well I’m split down the middle on this tbh. Pards was right to mention what advice he’d been given about wipe your nose and move on ,as a direct reply to a question about Liverpools possible loss of Carroll.Where he went wrong was saying the moment Buck came in it was obvious AC wouldn’t fit in and also that he’s not bothered wether he comes back or not .It’s a bit disrespectful to player and club imo.I would like to think we as a club have a little bit more class than that .Yes we all know it’s the truth but why mention it ,it serves no purpose other than to cause bad feeling. 🙄

      (Quote)

  33. Pardew should keep his bloody big mouth tightly shut when discussing other clubs players.
He loves the sound of his own voice 👿

      (Quote)

  34. Just to add, are the Liverpool fans as upset with Tugboat for trying to get him to leave for wet spam?,or is that o.k cause he’s one of their own I wonder. Let’s not forget how ex Liverpool players and Pundits were saying Enrique was a done deal yonks befor he left us and how it affected his game play.

      (Quote)

  35. Great. Sounds good Sharpy. Agree with you Southern Red. No club in the EPL can hold the moral high ground when it comes to horse-trading. However, it’s the press who really love to ****-stir. Just so they can divide fans and squeeze a bigger story out. And they say ‘you can’t polish a turd’!!

      (Quote)

  36. Tony, how can Pardew keep his mouth shut when talking about other players, he’s not a ventriloquist 🙂 🙂 🙂

  37. SHARPY kna mate to far to gan in the plane without a *** 😀 plus everything bites and stings you in aussie, ill stick to ganning to malta to see the son,its 30/40c that will do me 😉

  38. I’m still not sold on Remy. I would have thought that he would have had a higher games to goal ratio than he does considering the chances that would be created for him at such a massive club in the French league. That’s why I can’t understand why £15m is the asking price, Cissé had and Ba had better goal tallies in clubs which arent at the top end of the division consistently when in Germany.

  39. Come on Ice, you haven’t lived until you have been bitten by a few venomous spiders 🙂

  40. Andy-To be fair, they did only finish tenth last season. They’re not the European power they used to be anymore

      (Quote)

  41. Andy….Marseille only finished 10th last year and Remy’s goals per game(almost 1 in 2) is better at Marseille than Ba’s was at Hoffenheim 😉

  42. Ice – To far to go on a plane without a *** 😯 😳 whatever floats ya boat buddy 😉
I know what you mean tho, I’m not a big fan of long haul flights like. You gonna get him up SJP for any of the matches?

Andy – I kinda agree, and I think that’s what has put Arsenal and Spurs off tbh. Think he’s a good player but I’d want more goals out of him for £15m like. That said, if we can get him for £10-12m then he’d be a good buy.

Really enjoying this match like

  50. Don’t forget our sharks Gary 🙂 🙂 although JJ will probably have it over us with his waters around sth africa 🙂

      (Quote)

  51. Said yesterday that he should not be telling other clubs how to deal with their own players, Its certainly not the sharpest move if he expects to do a deal with liverpool after this whole palava.

If Redknapp had said something silmilar about one of our players we would have (rightly) slaughtered him.

Im still far more worried about only having 2 quality centre halves and some hit and miss or inexperienced back up. Strikers are not a priority at the moment that said Loic Remy on the left of the 4-3-3… 😎
