Game On! Southampton v Newcastle

Game On at St Mary’s
Game number 13 of our Premier League season will see us travel to St Mary’s Stadium this afternoon where we will face Southampton.

It’s been well documented how poor we’ve been this season so I don’t need to go into that again, but our record against newly promoted clubs isn’t exactly great and with a long absentee list to contend with I’m left wondering if it will get any better this afternoon?

This game will mean that we’ve played all three promoted clubs and so far we have just one point to show for it from our previous games against West Ham (a 1-0 home loss) and Reading (a 2-2 away draw). To me that is not good enough but it also isn’t a trait that has been reserved for this season. Indeed ever since our return to the Premier League we’ve struggled against promoted clubs, under both Chris Hughton and Alan Pardew, with only four wins from 12 games against teams fresh from the Championship.

A win this afternoon could see us climb as high as 8th place in the Premier League table if other results go our way and we find ourselves firing on all cylinders in front of goal. To be honest it’s unlikely given how we’ve performed in recent weeks so rather than looking at where we could end up I’d rather we just get the win at all costs.

My match preview is online here if you haven’t already had a look at it. It features news of injuries for both sides, a history of meetings between the two clubs and some rather alarming statistics from an NUFC perspective.

With this game being moved as a result of our ongoing participation in the Europa League we are not being broadcast live here in the UK. However there are a number of overseas channels who have picked our game for broadcast so, as ever, should you manage to find a stream of decent quality then by all means feel free to share it with fellow NUFC fans who may not be able to make it to the South coast today.

Team news, as you should now expect, will be published below in full as and when it becomes available.

Howay the lads!

Don’t have a clue tbh mate.
Spirit has looked **** all year. If it’s lack of investment than Pardew should’ve seen the signs and forced a transfer through.
We’ve been failed by everyone at the club this year.
We started last year without Cisse/HBA/Santon yet we were better. Where the hell is the organisation? Why the hell can’t we make a simple pass. Why haven’t our players heard of the concept of PASS AND MOVE.
Watch the replay for the goal again, I know he doesn’t score it but watch the guy (no. 4 i think) that makes the pass from next to the throw in, he darts into the box as Jonas just watches him.

  4. Man this is an embarassment.

If I read another Sammy Ameobi / Lee Ryder ***** interview in the chronicle I’ll hoy me computer out the window.

Fergie, Ameobi, Anita, Marveaux, Jonas, all not good enough.

Wow we got lucky there, should have been 3-0. Should have been 5-0 today, no problem.

I can see Jonas drifting in and us setting up with three defensive midfielders, with Fergie being our only outlet on the left with Santon pushing up.

Willo and Simpson will lump long balls looking for Ba and Cisse who will have their usual poor communication and play miles apart from each other.

Cisse will probably take up a role wide right under Pardews instructions which is not where he needs to be. His strengths are in and around the box.

I have a feeling Anita will do well today, Fergie will do ok but there won’t be much for him to aim for in the box.

The line-up looks very one dimensional and again set up poorly for me. I won’t listen to excuses about key players missing because we still should have more quality than them yet we set up so defensively (on paper anyway).

    I’m thinking 2-0 or 2-1 to So’ton.

Anyway, now that I’ve got that negativity out of the way, lets hope I’m competely wrong and we thump ‘em.”

Sorry lads, I hate to be right so often. But the only thing that gave me hope at all was my heart. My brain told me we had no chance today. 😥

  6. Jesus this is depressing, I’m off to put a knife to the jugular 😕 , absolute **** from a good team. 😥

  7. Is it just me whose notice that every time we play someone the commentators say the opposition has played some of the best foobtall they have all season.

The reason they other teams play so well against us all the time is because we are utter *****. Its no coincidence…

      (Quote)

  8. Wankas the lot of them, from the board down to the lowlife that is Nile Ranger, utter **** and utter bottlers.

Well done Southampton, showed us how it should be done.

    Beer time.

  9. Wow Gutti is cack.
We don’t have enough workers in the team, they are constantly on the move, whereas our lot seem to be starting from a flat-footed standing start. I’ve no idea what the answer is to be honest. We are obviously not as good as Pardew and his bunch of losers think they are.

Its called tactics. They know we can’t attack down the right because we have **** like Williamson and Simpson. So they crowd the right side and attack on the counter because they know Santon is our only outlet.

Thats not rocket science mate, its **** tactics on our part.

      (Quote)

  11. Didn’t say that. I’m saying if you want to look for one in particular then it was Santon for not tracking. Simples. Anyone who thinks Krul was to blame for the first goal was a lousy defender in their youth 🙂

      (Quote)

  12. Well done Southampton on their first clean sheet. But if that saints fan from earlier is reading this – honestly don’t take too much from it, you won’t get an easier clean sheet this season.

      (Quote)

  13. Pardew seems frightened to take chances. Remember Bobby Robson going to three strikers when the chips were down? I am unfortunately tending to side with the doubters now.

  14. Come on Pards show us your a real man and don’t speak to us like we’re all thick tell the truth we wern’t good enough and it can’t be tolerated

  15. I’m seriously expecting Pardew to fall on his sword tomorrow.
I’ve seen enough now to KNOW he isn’t capable of turning this around.
Very sad day today. the worst performance for many years.

  16. Just watched the biggest load of rubbish ever in black and white shirts as well as a Muppet on the touch line,
It was a case of Tiote, Stanton and Taylor against Southampton, the rest were so bad it was unreal.
What the hell Jonas, Anita, Williamson Ba and Cisse where doing beggars belief, do not think I have ever been so annoyed watching Newcastle as I have been today, and please do not insult the fans intelligence by saying Injuries or Europe

  18. Could easily be 4-0 or 5-0.

Now i know why ashley dont want to spend, he bought the goalposts and crossbar. 😆

next up, is Stoke – who defends very well at home this season. Looks like another loss to me. 😥

      (Quote)

  19. There first goal was a travesty of comic defending. Why the flock Williamson headed the ball backwards is beyond me. 😯

  20. I’m now not following football.

    Women’s volleyball is the future.

At least if you lose you get to look at some nice arses.

The difference being with Newcastle the arses are up in the boardroom!

Arf… Tune in next week for more knock knock jokes from Nobby

  21. worse is yet to come.
December is going to be crazy.
QPR still to come before xmas.
3 losses on the trot now

      (Quote)

  22. Seriously… That should have been 6-1
I think Pardew better look for a new job.
Not the worst I’ve seen at St Mary’s but not great.
Cheers for the welcome on here guys, still think your top supporters and good luck for the rest of the season…. Apart from us at your place 😉

  23. I am usually quite optimistic but even I know believe there’s a good chance we’ll be relegated and this time and I’m not sure we’ll go straight back up. From what I’ve seen the quality of the PL has increased around us and we’re being left behind. 442 hoofball is outdated and teams know how to easily defend against it, passing football needs to be implemented or the toon have lost a supporter 🙁

      (Quote)

  24. Dave-He put out the excuses before the match, no need to now!

Well i’m not surprised, although i’m annoyed as that was by far the worst all season.

If there isn’t some sense of normality when Colo returns and something isn’t changed up front/in the midfield, the trigger will be pulled….

  25. I knew the lack of ambition and extra games would effect our season but I never expected the players left standing to bottle it so badly as this . 5games in and I was worried after the Reading game , now I’m certain we will go down .We don’t press enough , we don’t retain the ball and we couldn’t pass our way out a paper bag and don’t get me started on the defending it’s sooo poor it’s now effecting Krul imo.

  26. stoke unbeaten at home in their last 13 matches.
Our bunch of whimps wont stand a chance against the dorty bastads

agree, nobody is prepared to do the offensive running. Make gaps for the player with the ball, draw defenders away, or look for the ball.
They all stand flat footed. Just so much wrong with the club right now its scary.

      (Quote)

  28. We miss Cabaye as well defensively, the defenders were overran continually which just exacerbated how poor they were anyway.
All it takes is a long term injury to either Colo or HBA and we’re down.

      (Quote)

  29. If Pardew comes out with some gash about the strains of Thursday night football, I’d sack the *****! – fact is that the ‘best’ players today were Santon, Anita and Marv when he came on – all played Thursday night!.
He started too defensive today and Sammy before Marv just shows me that he’s a one plan manager. I’m not sure he has the vision to mix things up and try new things.
Don’t want to see him gone, but we can’t carry on like this like.

      (Quote)

  30. Recall Good now. Can’t be any worse. Gutti automatic choice yet he has been poor all season. Why take Ranger if you haven’t the guts to use him.

      (Quote)

  31. this really takes you back to the grand ol days under the great BSA. Havent seen such uninspiring football for quite some time….. no spirit or team spirit for that matter, as no one seem to be pulling in the same direction.

should be exciting to watch us against an equally inspiring side like Stoke on wednesday.

      (Quote)

  32. Grif ,well looking at today and previous performances we certainly won’t outstoke them like last season .

      (Quote)

  33. i have a very bad sinking feeling now , RELEGATION is starting to stare us in the face 😯 👿 😥 why on earth persist with a strike duo the whole footballing world knows cant play together ❗ ❗ ❗ its not fore nothing Cisse is dropped by Senegal when Ba was fit .

      (Quote)

  34. Again Pardew making a dramatic half time sub. Does not know what he was up against prior to kick off.

Hate to say it but Pardew out!

      (Quote)

  35. Well they gambled again and it didn’t pay off. Ashley deserves to lose a **** ton of money. I mean, putting you mate with zero experience in charge of a multi-million pound, sports business, putting a buffoon in charge of a delicately balanced empire. He’s make a *** of him self running across the pitch naked and gives the manager a 8 year contract, which is unheard of in an industry where things change daily. What a ***. Its all make do and mend. Not sensible investment and building on what we had.

      (Quote)

  36. I can tell you now, QPR are not playing so bad as us, despite them being bottom.
They wont be bottom for long at this rate.
    😈 👿

      (Quote)

  37. Do not blame Stanton for everything, we was trying to attack and defend, up and down the field, least he showed some bottle.
Sammi just just stick to been an idiot on twitter cos hes never going to be footballer.
Ba and Cisse had a relationship problem, least looks that way.
Anita 6 million down the drain.
Williamson should be on traffic duty as some crossroads in a far off land, always has an arm out to blame someone else while he does nothing.
Jonas, you haircut has shorne you.
Tiote gets booked as a result of a **** Sammi pass.
Pardew has not even got the sense to put a waterproof jacket on, he is that thick and stupid.
Could go on but need another painkillier

      (Quote)

  38. So what caused the change? What was the catalyst?

Ba insisting on being played down the middle?

Ba not signing a new contract?

Lack of new first eleven players?

    Debuchy not arriving in particular?

    Simpson not getting his contract?

Cisse not scoring (although that isn’t at the start of the season).

Or something stranger like players being annoyed that Pardew got a lovely new contract?

It would be good to know in case it can be fixed.

      (Quote)

  39. I can’t see Pardew being sacked with seven and a half years left on his contract. Even if he was, who would come in? Di Matteo?

      (Quote)

  40. BB Most od the teams below us (and they are getting less every week) are playing a lot better than us and it’s no joke. Relegation is not being dramatic at all, it is on the cards, we have had our ‘easy month’ as well and we have to play the harder games again. We traditionally get nowt over Christmas as well.

      (Quote)

  41. @ASH1001 (among other doubters) – Anita may be struggling a bit with his first Premier League season, but he’s not the first foreign player to take a while to adapt. He clearly has good technical skills, a decent read of the game, and a good work ethic. Writing him off at this point is premature.

      (Quote)

  42. So since Pardew’s now contract he has only won one game…
Against West Brom where we got completely outplayed at home and somehow lucked three points from a pathetic performance.

I’m tired of the excuses, tired of the tactics, tired of his bullshitting.

If he was at least attempting something different I could give him time but he does the same **** game after game.

    Patience is almost up…
