Janmaat joins as Debuchy departs!

Going Dutch with Daryl...
Going Dutch with Daryl…
Newcastle have completed the signing of former Feyenoord defender Daryl Janmaat.

24-year-old Janmaat joins the United having put pen to paper on a six-year-deal for a fee believed to be around £5 million. He becomes our sixth signing of the summer to date following the arrivals of Ayoze Perez, Jack Colback, Siem de Jong, Remy Cabella and Emmanuel Riviere.

He was a regular for his previous club Feyenoord making a total of 74 appearances for the Dutch club, scoring five goals along the way. He also chipped in with seven assists last season but couldn’t do enough to help his team win the league, losing out to Siem De Jong’s Ajax in the end.

His good form earned him a call up to the Netherlands World Cup squad where he started two group games and put in a few impressive performances before being dropped for the knockout rounds. He did make three very good substitute appearances in the latter rounds and even set up the third goal in Netherlands’ final game against Brazil.

This is what he had to say in his first interview as a Newcastle player:

“Newcastle is a fantastic club, with a big history and a great stadium. I have also been told all about how great the fans are,” said Janmaat.

He added: “This is the perfect move for me, and I am really looking forward to being with the team and getting started here at Newcastle. I think we are going to have a great season.”

This is Mr Pardew’s take on the signing:

“We are delighted to bring Daryl to the Club. He is the perfect example of a modern full-back; someone who is good defensively but offers a real threat going forward as well.”

Adding: “Daryl had an excellent World Cup and we are looking forward to him continuing that form for Newcastle.”

Here is a quick YouTube video of Janmaat in action. Just to whet your appetite a little…

Another signing done, the squad is shaping up nicely and the atmosphere around the club has improved dramatically in the last few days though there are still grumbles here and there. Is he an improvement on Mathieu Debuchy? Well that is up for debate and I’m sure debate it we will but I’m just glad we have got him in before letting Debuchy join Arsenal.

What are your thoughts on Janmaat and the summer transfers in general? Is letting Debuchy go for a fee in the region of £10m and replacing him with a player at half the price a good piece of business?

  1. CC have you seen Died play yourself,I don’t go on these u-tube vid,I could make Richie look good on them lol

  2. Ice – played as a CF I think Welbeck is decent – certainly good enough for a mid table finish, but is he good for 15 plus goals a season?!.

Newkie – if Liverpool get Bony as well then I think it’s goodbye and good ridden a to Suarez with that front 3.
Remy bought with the Borini money as well – excellent business from Liverpool – need to work on their defence IMO though.

  3. SHARPY talk l/pool pulled out of Bony deal they say,Luka to join Everton in next 48hrs,things looking bare in the cupboard mate

  4. Ice – we should absolutely be fighting hard for both of those like. I know Lukaku spent last season on loan at Everton, but we could and should be beating Everton to that signing IMO.

As you say, they are flying off the shelf fast – but maybe there’s still a gem in the bargain basket – Danny Ings maybe? – dare I say Connor Whickham?!.

  5. If we are unable to get the CF that we want, should we go and get Grenier instead?. I know he’s not a forward but an attacking 3 of Grenier/De Jong and Cabella behind Rivière or Cisse may not be such a bad plan B.

In the u20 world cup, I watched it to see how Bigi got on and i think he came on as a last minute sub in the 1st game and didnt feature again 😆 But i kept an eye on Dier as id read about him in the past.

Hes also played in recent U21 matches. Hes similar to Saylor is that hes physically perfect for a centre half. Tall, Good header, Decent on the ball, Quickish, Strong in the tackle. Less erratic and more composed which will probably see him get full caps & feature in major tournaments and not just flit in and out of squads ala ST.

  7. Bentner is still available on a free, and I honestly think he could be a good player if he wasn’t such a tw@t!. I used to think all he needed was regular first team footy, but I don’t think he’s bothered at it at all. He likes the playboy life and I think he’d just be another Benny – a wasted talent.
I’d take him on a 1 year deal to see if he’s up for it – if he proves himself then give him a longer deal. If not we can get rid for nowt.

  8. I know plenty of others have posted on this, but I want to add my voice to the chorus of sympathy to the family and friends of the two guys who died on the plane recently. Especially relevant because they died travelling to support the club that we all love. We’ve all lost them from our family.

  9. Sharpy – i really thought theyd struggle after Sanchez turned them down but they’re making a good effort of it. Heres hoping they don’t gel ala spurs…

  10. TDS – yeah I know there are memorial tiles at SJP as well and I’d hope the club donate one to each family – pride of place.

  11. SHARPY

That would be a good gesture from the club and the right gesture as they died travelling to support the club. Did the club organise the tiles outside SJP do you know?

  13. Well Pards saying their could be more players coming in , for me if we could somehow get in Mica Richards ,Eric Dier and 1 of Connor Wickham , Danny Welbeck or Benteke (which i do not believe could happen) then i think we would be ready for an assault on the top 8 of the premiership .Come on Ashley now you have the wallet open keep it open .

      (Quote)

  14. No point getting Benteke, he’s crocked isn’t he 😕 , we’d be going into the season with two injured 1st choice players what with Cisse.

  15. KIM aye and what is he going like after that injury,it was a bad one, could do another R Taylor its poss

  18. Hi. I’m Aussies blog *****, formerly known as Troy Stavers 😛

Dear me. The petulant behaviour continues. 😳

Are some of you actually over 18 yrs old? Do you actually have the right to vote. ? 😛

    I’m loving Stuart’s annihilation of you’s. 😆

I know exactly how the lad feels cos I’ve been there countless times. It’s like fighting an incoming tide. The thing is, I’ve always had the tenacity to build sea defences rapid enough and long enough for the tide to go back out again. That’s at the point when as sure as the moon rises in the sky then the tide turns. The tode going out is the point when everyone realises that you were actually right after all. 😛

Hang in there Stuart! You will win if you can hold out til Xmas and the injuries kick in. The jelly fish will float back out to see then! 😆

    Absolute classic reading. 😆

Aussie the turtle is on the crashed ,wave, on his back, his shell acting like the hull of a tug boat and his little stumpy legs flailing about trying to right himself. 😆 😆 😆

Hang in there Stuart. There’s a seldom few who have the foresight, genius, wonderful understanding of the club. Some have cauliflower florets for brains. 😆 step forward Santii. 😆

  25. I am still legitimately annoyed that Remy, Luuk de Jong and Debuchy took longer to sign from start to posing with t-shirt than they lasted with the actual club.

No club should have that situation.

  26. See the rumors of Carroll coming back home are getting stronger , their talking about 15 million but wages could be a stumbling block , i hope so because i don’t want him back . Far too injury prone .

      (Quote)

  27. yeah seen that hes a great player in the air and worth every penny if he could be kept fit but like yaself im a bit worried about his injury record meself now been last year id of snaped there hand off

  28. mind i might of had a bit trouble meself pulling me **** off the sofa just to play for west ham 😆

  29. Oh look how angry we have made Aussie’s ***** 😡

I think his point in among all the drivel and **** jokes, is he cant wait till Newcastle fail, so he can prove us all wrong…. 😳

    Axel

I agree Carroll at that price and reported wages would be a massive waste of money. Danny Ings sounds like the most realistic English target. He fits profile perfectly. I think we will go abroad again though. I’m expecting a few outgoings first though.

      (Quote)

  30. Dear me! Get Carroll back home now! 😉

I couldn’t think of a better foyle to play alongside Cisse.

I wouldn’t be held to ransom, but I don’t believe the player would have huge demands now. But I could see West Ham doing so, so there has to be a limit. As long as he settles for the clubs wage structure I would pay up to £15m.

Dear me. This blog, which I love, does give a great laugh. The diverse craic is great. The clueless crew greatly outnumber the educated by a long way. 😉 by the way, I’m the leader of the educated crew. 😉

I seriously wonder about the age and mental ability of some. 😯

Many say things that are outrageous opinions but fight furiously at anyone trying to criticise them. 🙄

Does Santii ever look in the mirror and think, dear me, do my lips amd tongue really combine to make vocal sounds that I actually look a chump in the mirror. 😛

    Shirley (surely)he must!

Yet again all drivel and **** jokes. Did you have a point to make to make in among all that nonsense?

  32. Just found out that the tour games in New Zealand are on telly live 😀 Woo hoo, I thought. Only $40 for the four games on Main Event (or $20 a game) 😀
Then checked out the game times and found I’ll probably be somewhere between Coffs Harbour and Byron Bay, driving up the highway, at about the time the Sydney game kicks off, and I’ll be at a funeral when the Wellington game is on 🙁 I’m totally free of all commitments for the West Ham games against Sydney and the Nix – but who cares about that. 😈 Life’s a ***** (and a Troyal 😉 ).

  33. Haha. 😆 Just woke up and read Santii’s response. 😆

    He’s seething. 😛 he’s the new Aussie 😆

  34. @Big Dave

Stardust is in full Ashley mode, like many on here. He’s easily duped as you know. Like many on here, he has the memory of a gold fish, so all he sees is the current goings on. He can’t remember that we sold Cabaye and Debuchy and still haven’t replaced Remy, like for like.

I’m starting to wonder if Santii is Stardust. 😆 😆

Actually, Stardust has started wearing white shorts and blue jeans and it was only yesterday that I caught a profile glimpse of him and I would have sworn it was Ashley. I was that convinced I had to tell the cops during interview that was the reason I knocked him out. 😯

Fortunately, Stardusts goldfish memory saved me as he couldn’t remember who had hit him. 😆

You have to love Santii and Stardust. The Gulper eel syndrome is not an easy thing to live with. 😛

  35. Is this the club largest ever purchase in a single transfer window… I expect a 7th coming in soon after reading this from BBC source. 😯 😯

OL – Olympique Lyonnais striker Alexandre Lacazette has agreed a move to Newcastle United but the French club are demanding £15.8m.

Don’t think he’ll be coming to Toon somehow.

  38. There were comments on here the other day questioning where West ham had magically found £12m for Enner Valencia.

Do you think they spent that money in the knowledge they would soon have banked £15m ?

      (Quote)

  39. Or Carroll for that matter

We need someone as i cant see our current strikers hitting 15-20 goals between them let alone individually

      (Quote)

  40. Angel – neither for me mate. I’d rather go with either Danny Ings or Connor Whickham – both of whom are in their final year of their contracts so could probably be bought for half of your £15m

      (Quote)

  41. We would be mad to even consider going for Carroll.
He is injury prone, 15 goals in 3.5 seasons says it all to me.
    We should stay will clear.

      (Quote)

  42. KIM there is a bit of cat and mouse going on with Lyon IMO would really like him at the toon,I have watched him a fair bit,he has really fast feet and
a bit of a beast as iI’ve said before he not bad in the air too, would fit in the
PL IMO,better buy than Carroll with his injury progs and little storys of a drinking problems

      (Quote)

  43. I think for 15 million we could get better than Carroll ,lets face it he has been injured more than he has played since we robbed Liverfool . The lad only really has had one very good half season in the premiership and that prompted the scouser’s too chuck their money away . I bet we could get Conner wickham in for less than 15 million because he is in the last year of his contract and has so far refused a new one . 2 identical players one would cost us less , both English both have premiership experience .Wickham came good last season after Poyet took over ,their is potential in that lad .

      (Quote)

  44. I hope we get Carroll back. Not a better sight than seeing him break the back of the net with a header wearing a toon top.

      (Quote)

  45. Troysa, Carroll would be a disastrous signing!!
He is seldom fit so not gonna happen mate.

      (Quote)

  46. TROY its like TGS says he’s hardly ever fit so he’s not gonna break the back of the net many times . He would break the clubs wage structure while sitting in the treatment room though , a bit like M Owen , will score when played but hardly fit enough too play . The days of our club signing those types of players are long gone .

      (Quote)

  47. I genuinely believe that Cisse will score goals this season with creativity in behind him.

      (Quote)

  48. I agree his injury record is not great. As a player, I think he would be great to have back.

It’s a gamble no doubt but as long as the medical staff are satisfied he has no long term injuries then I would take the risk.

      (Quote)

  49. OBLONG i think so too and Pardew is thinking that way too i reckon . Thats why it will be a carroll type player in next . We have no real CF that can do that job although from what i have read Reviere is a big strong lad maybe he can do a job played as a carroll type forward if needed . Haven’t seen him play though so i wouldn’t know .

      (Quote)

  50. Carroll coming back is the funniest thing I’ve heard. If we can’t find better than him for 15 million then there’s defiantly a problem with our scouts. West Ham would snap your hand off for 15 million and it would be doing them a massive favour. They would go out and find someone better. Don’t lose heart, if we fail with our main targets there always Shola 🙂

      (Quote)

  51. I have faith in Cisse coming good with the right service, but for the immediate future we have to get in a quality forward. Lacazette would be great but apparently he’s not moving on now. I do like AC, if we could bank on him having no long term injury issues and be satisfied his drinking problem is sorted then I would take a gamble. Pea would be good too though don’t see him coming to us. Wouldn’t mind Little pea either for that matter.

      (Quote)

  52. All he needs is a break and he will start scoring. Hopefully, when he gets back to fitness he has a good start.

I’m a Carroll fan but not for 15million.

I like the look of Cheikh Diabaté from
Bordeaux. Big strong striker and would be a good “plan B”

      (Quote)

  53. Oblong I agree £15m is too big a gamble £8m is probably a fairer reflection given his recent record.

      (Quote)

  54. Only problem with cissie is the club he spoke out against Wonga, you don’t upset jabba its a no no,when he gets fit he’s gone my bet is Jan, shame like

      (Quote)

  55. To be fair. £15 m would be too much to pay for Carroll.

    £8-£10m would be more realistic.

      (Quote)

  56. KIM well Lyon must have another player they can move on if they keep him,as Lyon have until the end of month to pay back 20 mil of dept
