Janmaat joins as Debuchy departs!

Going Dutch with Daryl…
Newcastle have completed the signing of former Feyenoord defender Daryl Janmaat.

24-year-old Janmaat joins the United having put pen to paper on a six-year-deal for a fee believed to be around £5 million. He becomes our sixth signing of the summer to date following the arrivals of Ayoze Perez, Jack Colback, Siem de Jong, Remy Cabella and Emmanuel Riviere.

He was a regular for his previous club Feyenoord making a total of 74 appearances for the Dutch club, scoring five goals along the way. He also chipped in with seven assists last season but couldn’t do enough to help his team win the league, losing out to Siem De Jong’s Ajax in the end.

His good form earned him a call up to the Netherlands World Cup squad where he started two group games and put in a few impressive performances before being dropped for the knockout rounds. He did make three very good substitute appearances in the latter rounds and even set up the third goal in Netherlands’ final game against Brazil.

This is what he had to say in his first interview as a Newcastle player:

“Newcastle is a fantastic club, with a big history and a great stadium. I have also been told all about how great the fans are,” said Janmaat.

He added: “This is the perfect move for me, and I am really looking forward to being with the team and getting started here at Newcastle. I think we are going to have a great season.”

This is Mr Pardew’s take on the signing:

“We are delighted to bring Daryl to the Club. He is the perfect example of a modern full-back; someone who is good defensively but offers a real threat going forward as well.”

Adding: “Daryl had an excellent World Cup and we are looking forward to him continuing that form for Newcastle.”

Here is a quick YouTube video of Janmaat in action. Just to whet your appetite a little…

Another signing done, the squad is shaping up nicely and the atmosphere around the club has improved dramatically in the last few days though there are still grumbles here and there. Is he an improvement on Mathieu Debuchy? Well that is up for debate and I’m sure debate it we will but I’m just glad we have got him in before letting Debuchy join Arsenal.

What are your thoughts on Janmaat and the summer transfers in general? Is letting Debuchy go for a fee in the region of £10m and replacing him with a player at half the price a good piece of business?

  1. Hey, I ain’t seen this blog on newsnow for yonks and wrongly presumed that the place had folded.

With our current squad in mind, would you prefer a top drawer striker or a top drawer centre back?

  2. Lifted this from a true faith article.

Conclusions can’t fail to be drawn that The Sun is now another of United’s media partners. Don’tBuyTheSunThe Sun was the only newspaper invited to the announcement of Remy Cabella’s arrival at the club (bizarrely announced during the World Cup Final). This is another reason to fall out of love with Newcastle United. There is not a worse newspaper imaginable for our club to be associated with and almost immediately we can see the reasons why. As The Mirror’s Simon Bird identified, The Sun has been doing some well, er, generous reporting of Mike Ashley already. One of the reasons submitted by The Sun as to why Ashley is a good guy really, is because we don’t like him. So, there you go, a reference for Ashley is our disapproval and that really tells you everything about that newspaper’s position towards the community that supportes Newcastle United.

Of course that is far from the only reason why the selection of The Sun as media partner to Newcastle United is all wrong. Do I need to remind everyone of the disgraceful reporting of the Hilsbrough tragedy under the editorship of the odious, the repellant oxygene thief Kelvin McKenzie? Or that newspaper’s conduct under the phone hacking scandal? Hacking the phone of a murdered child and giving the family fale, cruel hope?

I could go on and whilst my antipathy towards The Sun for its Thatcher-loving, for its poisonous, hate-filled rhetoric towards those who are “different” won’t be shared by all of our supporters, I do think enough of us are repulsed by this tie-up for it not to have been agreed. But then, it is Big Mike’s club and all of us lot can **** off, he’s Mike Ashley, he’ll do what he wants.

Then again, so can we – DON’T BUY THE SUN! .

Couldn’t agree more on this, Ashley, Wonga and The Sun ,talk about a match made in hell.

  3. Ice – I would say that their main assets are Lacazette and Grenier – so that would suggest they are ready to loose Grenier.
I’d happily see us take him though, despite needing another CF. I’d rather us get quality players in at a good price while they are available, than hold off for a CF who may not be. Ideally we buy a CF, but if not, buy Grenier and loan a CF maybe.

Troy – yeah £8-10m for Carroll would be fair money I reckon, but I think his wages would be a problem, and WHU would want way more than that.

I thought you avoided transfer talk by the way?! 😉

  4. OBLONG at a push buy him and play jong up top if there isn’t a decent c/f to get, must have a c/b too imo

  5. A centre back is a must for me as well. I’m gutted we aren’t in for Caulker. Surely we could of offered Willo as part of a cash plus player deal and got him for 6million. That would be a steal for him.

  6. @Sharpy

I feel I’ve got a valuable contribution to make in relation to this piece of transfer talk. It’s the opposite view to most on here so it’s worth making. 😉

Nothing worse than everyone patting each other on the back and agreeing with each other. 🙄

Too many lickspittles for me. 😉

  7. Sobering thought; 6 first team players left in the summer – 3 of them strikers. We have brought in 6 players, 5 of which will be first team players but only 1 is a striker.

    Slight inbalance? 😯

  8. Some club has bid 4mil for Villa c/h,price about right for a 29yr old in his last yr of contract, would be happy to take him for a couple of yrs for the short term would cost about the same as a loan player over the same time
    canny player too imo

      (Quote)

  9. Staurt79 Ashley spending ambition is Zero and always has been. We sale a player and get one half price. We do need a striker urgently but it will be someone nearer the 5 million mark.

  10. Troy – I’m pulling ya leg mate 😉

Stu – it depends on what formation we play mate. I think most agree we need another CF in and to be fair it looks like the club know that too with the players we are being linked with.
It would be a big risk going into the season with only Cisse and Rivière as our senior CFs. The Adams are showing great potential but aren’t ready for the big stage just yet.
So yeah, priority for me would be CF over CB at the moment.

  11. I have zero interest in Carroll.

I don’t see the need of a big CF type. I’d much rather get a more versatile player

      (Quote)

  12. Icedog LDJ was even worse than Shola. I don’t class either as purples but lets just see what happens on the striker front. Remy joining us ? Ba joining us ? Gomis joining us ? It’s all bull ****. I’m just waiting for those two lyon player’s to be bull **** as well and its 5 out 5 for me.
    Grenier and Laz

  13. I’m hanging onto every word Stuart speaks these days! 😆

Go Stuart!! I’ll pat you on the back and be a lickspittle! 😛

  14. Stem – that bull **** could well be generated by the media though mate. Just coz the club don’t sign every player we’re linked with does mean they’ve failed – it doesn’t even mean the link is true.
I think our poor relationship with the press in general means most stories are speculation and let’s be right, Ba, Remy and Carroll are always going to be easy page fillers.

  15. reading some of the west ham fans comments, they are pleading for toon to take carroll back, they dont want him

  16. MDS my thoughts on it is i think its a sprat to catch a mackrell if you get my drift, well i hope so

      (Quote)

  17. I suppose if we are heavily linked to AC, then Lyon may drop their price on Lacazette in the hope we go back in. How desperate for cash are they 😕

Oh and has the Sun linked us with Carroll yet. 😕

      (Quote)

  18. KIM me explain to a lady lol,you kid someone along that you want this (carroll) when you really want another,in this case the club they really want to give in or miss out on a sale, hope you get my drift its done a lot in footy, imo we done a bit of that with Caballa,we let big gob think we were looking at other targets if you think about it,smoke and mirrors mate

      (Quote)

  19. Ice – you crafty get 😈

Danny Ings for me I think. There’s afew others I wouldn’t mind, but Ings would be my preferred option.

      (Quote)

  20. KIM not what his agent wants, anyway lets wait and see i can remember some toon players saying they wanted to stay within weeks they were gone,if club gives in to a bid hes gone 😉

      (Quote)

  21. SHARPY if was not for Burnley having just come up i would say we had a chance to get him,but the club would not dare let him go the back lash from fans would be bad and they need them through the door more so when the player said he want to see out his last year at burnley, imo cannot play sprat and mackrall with this one

      (Quote)

  22. Kim

Its going to be hard to dislike them. I wonder how much that will change things between the fans. I assume it will be a little less hateful for the next game at least.

Its a shame it takes inhumane things to restore a little faith in humanity.

      (Quote)

  23. Santii, Yeah, It’s an amazing gesture by them, I would like to think we would do the same thing, roles reversed. I think Derby day will still be as passionate as ever but we need to publicly acknowledge what they have done at the first Derby I think .

      (Quote)

  24. Ice – I know what you’re saying mate, but he’s in his last year of his contract and hasn’t signed a new one yet. I’m not writing Burnley off, but if they were to go down and loose Ings on a free as well – that would surely be worse.
Burnley have just signed Sordell and a kid from Boro up front, so they may be preparing for life without Ings as it is.
A cheeky £7m bid may be enough to get him, and maybe loan Jonas or something like that.

He’d be the lad I’d be bursting a gut to get in though mate.

Kim – that’s a fantastic amount of money from the Sunderland fans like.

      (Quote)

  25. Kim – Ings has said that, but he hasn’t signed a new contract for Burnley 😕
‘Yes I’m so happy at Burnley, it would be a waste of time any other club coming for me coz I’m just so happy in the final year of my contract. Yes I may be available for a lower fee but I can’t see me leaving’ – 😉

      (Quote)

  26. IMO Burnley will wait until Jan to see how they are fairing,if badly they then could sell him, telling fans they needed money to bring other player in,anyway thats the way i would play it if i was Burnley 😕

      (Quote)

  27. sorry but i would not like Carroll back at the toon, are we not turning away from that type of play anyway, plus as i said hes injury prone and little whispers hes drinking a lot he a hot head at times too, only good thing would be maybe Taylor might move on lol

      (Quote)

  28. All the players i have seen mentioned are not worth even close to £14 million so good idea to stay clear of whoever it was 😆

  33. Ice – re the £14m man – the only details I saw on it was that it was a young English PL player who wasnt in the first team of the club he’s currently at – so I was thinking someone like Townsend or maybe Zaha with Man U trying to recoup some of that huge fee they paid for him.

Santii – thanks for the match details mate. I didnt realise its on BT sport – they have advertised it at all. I’ve got that though so will be watch 😛

      (Quote)

  36. Ice – not my pick mate, but my plan B. I’d sooner we get a CF in, but if we can’t buy a quality one, then buy a quality attacking midfielder in Grenier and loan a CF – or change the formation –

    ——————- Krul ——————
    Jan — Willo —- Colo — Sant
    ———- Tiote —– Anita ———-
Grenier — De Jong — Cabella
    —————- Rivière ————–
