Transfer talk – a round-up of today’s NUFC news & gossip – 23/07/2018

A round up of all of today’s news & transfer gossip:

  • As confirmed by The Chronicle, Newcastle are now interested in a deal to sign Swiss international centre-back Fabian Schar – with reports in Spain also revealing that he has a release clause of just £3.5m – Full story here. 
  • Rafa Benitez is now ‘pushing hard’ to get ‘at least’ one signing in before this week’s trip to Portugal according to Lee Ryder, – and it looks like it’s Salomon Rondon and Fabian Schar who’ve been lined up by the Spaniard – Full story here. 
  • According to widespread reports today, Porto have now finally agreed a fee in the region of £6m to sign Chancel Mbemba – and it looks like Benitez has two potential replacements lined up already – Full story here. 
  • Some good news for Benitez, with it seeming as though Stoke have now given up in their attempts to sign Matt Ritchie – with Gary Rowett signing set to confirm the signing of two other wingers  – Full story here. 
  • According to an exclusive from TEAMtalk, Newcastle are now looking to sign Arsenal striker Danny Welbeck on a season-long loan deal – claiming Benitez is looking to bring in both him AND Salomon Rondon – Full story here. 

  • George Caulkin has made a telling admission regarding Mike Ashley’s lack of investment so far this summer, revealing that he’s unwilling to give Rafa Benitez money to spend as he could be ‘buying players his successor may not fancy‘- Full story here. 
  • According to leading French outlet L’Equipe’ , Newcastle are now one of three Premier League clubs trying to secure the signing of Guingamp playmaker Clement Grenier – with him said to be available for just €3m this summer – Full story here.
