NUFC Blog’s 2019/20 awards – Player of the season, unsung hero, most improved, best goal & more

Well, that’s it folks. The 2019/20 season is finally over.

It’s not been easy on the eye and it’s ended just as flatly as it began in that home defeat to Arsenal way back in August last year, however there’s been the odd high along the way and a few standout performers who’ve our latest survival season that bit more bearable!

We’re already looking ahead to the next season with Newcastle facing a battle to finish in the top 10, and you can get a Football Index referral code to bet on the upcoming season.

But for now, here are a few end of season awards, from player of the year, to unsung hero, most improved, best goal and more:

Player of the season:

  1. Martin Dubravka
  2. Allan Saint-Maximin

The Slovakian has been absolutely outstanding, keeping us in several games, making more saves than any other Premier League and being a constant calming influence at the back. He may have made the odd mistake, but so many of our narrow early season wins (or draws!) were only made possible from him keeping us in the game. I think it’s safe to say we’d be in the bottom three without him.

An honourable mention must also go to Allan Saint-Maximin, who would be just as worthy of the award. A breath of fresh air on and off the pitch, a player we’ve barely ever won without and an explosive attacker who’s regularly been by far our biggest threat. Like Dubravka, I dread to think where we’d be without him!

Young player of the season:

  1. Allan Saint-Maximin
  2. Matty Longstaff
  3. Tom Allan

It has to be ASM. His numbers in terms of goals and assists are far from spectacular, but his influence on the team has been huge, with us winning more, losing less, scoring more and conceding less when he starts.

Matty Longstaff comes in a close second after a brilliant breakthrough year, although that may mean little if he leaves for a few thousand, while Tom Allan also deserves a mention after bagging an assist on his senior debut vs Rochdale following an impressive campaign at U-23 level saw him get into double figures.

Unsung hero:

  1. Isaac Hayden
  2. Ciaran Clark / Federico Fernandez
  3. Jonjo Shelvey

Hayden may not always get the plaudits he deserves, but perhaps the best tribute we can pay to him is that we don’t half miss him when he’s not there. Fully committed, consistent and someone whose….

Clark started the season our SIXTH choice centre-back, yet he’s quickly become arguably Steve Bruce’s most reliable option this season when he was fit, putting his body on the line at one end and scoring a few key goals at the other end. He missed the last few months of the season, but he never let us down when he played! Like him, fellow centre-back Fernandez is another who isn’t flashy but barely puts a foot wrong.

Jonjo Shelvey also deserves praise for adding a few goals to his game and enjoying the slight bit more freedom he’s been given under Bruce, with his six strikes seeing him end our top scorer in the league.

Most improved player:

  1. Miguel Almiron
  2. Javier Manquillo
  3. Matty Longstaff

Matty may be the obvious player given he’s gone from U-23 prospect to securing a place in Bruce’s Premier League squad, but I feel it has to go to Miguel Almiron, with the Paraguayan ending the season as our top scorer in all competitions (8) after adding goals to his game following a difficult start to the season.

As for Javier Manquillo, the Spaniard is arguably our best right-back as things stand and turned things around brilliantly to earn himself a new contract at the club. Matty Longstaff also deserves praise for going from U-23 talent to a member of Bruce’s senior squad and rarely looking out of his depth when he’s been handed a chance.

Disappointment of the season:

  1. Joelinton
  2. Andy Carroll
  3. Sean Longstaff

It has to be Joelinton. He was never prolific in Germany and signed as a young prospect, not a proven scorer, but we all expected much more from our £40m man. Two goals and several unconvincing displays have left so many of us scratching our head – even if he hasn’t always been used right.

Elsewhere, Andy Carroll has not only struggled to stay fit but hasn’t made enough of an impact when he’s featured, failing to score all season on his second stint at SJP.

Then to Sean Longstaff. He’s had to odd good game when played in a more advanced role in 2020, however he has generally struggled to get anywhere near that form that saw him linked with a big money move to Man Utd this time last year!

Moment of the season:

https://twitter.com/cwrsmith2/status/1180980896775753728
  1. Matty Longstaff’s debut goal vs Man Utd
  2. Miguel Almiron breaking his duck at the Gallowgate
  3. Saint-Maximin’s winner at Oxford

The ovation Carroll received on his ‘second debut’ was also a spine tingling moment, but these are the three top moments for me. Three goals that sparked incredible scenes and a rare moment of unrivalled joy in a season that generally lacked emotion and entertainment value.

Goal of the season:

  1. Saint-Maximin’s FA Cup winner at Oxford
  2. Jetro Willems’ thunderbolt at Anfield
  3. Matty Longstaff’s debut goal vs Man Utd

Matty’s goal was magical and Willems’ strike an absolute stunner to give us a shock leat at Liverpool, but ASM’s corker in the cup had everything. An individual bit of brilliance that came just when we needed it in a cup tie that was threatening to get away from us. The scenes that followed in the away end were pretty special too!

Best team performances of the season:

  1. Tottenham 0-1 Newcastle
  2. Newcastle 2-2 Man City
  3. West Ham 2-3 / West Brom 2-3 / Bournemouth 1-4

My winner may surprise a few, but I thought we were outstanding in every area of the pitch that day, executing Bruce’s clear game plan to perfection.

The 2-2 draw against Man City was another superb display, while 3-2 wins at West Ham and West Brom (FA Cup) along with our recent 4-1 victory at Bournemouth were the only three occasions we’ve played with swagger and genuinely outplayed the opposition (the scoreline flatters the hosts massively in both!).

Worst team performances of the season:

  1. Norwich 3-1 Newcastle
  2. Leicester 5-0 Newcastle
  3. Newcastle 0-0 Oxford

Our first away game of the season against newly promoted Norwich was a low point. We got absolutely battered without putting up a fight, looking all at sea defensively, anonymous in midfield and like a team of strangers in attack, with Almiron and Joelinton worryingly isolated.

The collapse at Leicester was worrying, as was the recent surrender at Man City, while the 0-0 draw at home to Oxford was tough to watch considering the level of opposition and occasion.

Signing of the season:

  1. Allan Saint-Maximin
  2. Jetro Willems
  3. ???

ASM is a clear winner here, with his £16m arrival from Nice proving to be one of the signings of the summer across all Premier League clubs.

A big shoutout must also go to Jetro Willems, who had been impressive at both ends of the pitch before injury cut his loan deal short, scoring some stunning goals and defending better than most expected too.

Worst signing of the season:

  1. Joelinton
  2. Krafth
  3. Bentaleb

At £40m, Joelinton’s return of 3 goals and 4 assists in all competitions hasn’t been nearly enough, while Krafth has proved to be a bizarre signing given he’s spent most of the season being our third choice option in a area where we lack real quality in the first place.

Bentaleb would also make the ‘top three’, having shown next to nothing since arriving – despite many having high hopes for the former Spurs talent.

I can’t say Danny Rose has impressed me either, looking unfit at times and a shadow of the player who was starring for Spurs not so long ago, but at least he’s done a job since Willems’ injury.

Feel free to give us your answers to all the above in the comments section below!

  1. The two hotshots in Glasgow might be the limits of our budget. £20m for Edoard and £15m for Morelos. Bit of a shot in the dark but we simply can’t afford top strikers!

Georgio – I’d take Edouard but don’t want Morelos. But we are thinking the same, with the money we have there is going to be an element of risk.

  3. Hong kong flu, yep remember it well, our entire household had it along with most in our street and friends and family, not many escaped it.
Mostly the very old and infirm died from it and you were over it after a few weeks. This wretched virus for whatever reason seems to leave even healthy folk affected in weird ways for months after.

The thing with flu is you pretty much know what the complications are, pnuemonia , sepsis the main two and antibiotics are a massive help if it’s the bacteria form of either. With this virus it’s causing many previously unknown complications, blood clots, sticky blood, sight issues, long term breathlessness, kidney and liver failure and many recover only to then have a stroke or heart attack likely due to the blood issues ?
You have a good chance of recovery with flu if you are under 65 not so this beast.
When the second wave hits in the autumn, assuming it goes like flu and we get seasonal flu too it’s gonna be chaos .
A few nurses i know who work on the covid ward here say the numbers coming in are steadily increasing again and it’s only august .

We’ll have to go for herd immunity as we simply cannot afford to shut down again sadly.

      (Quote)

  4. Kim – Hospitals in North East have hardly any covid patients and aren’t seeing rises. In fact as a country, hospital admissions aren’t rising at a particularly pacey speed.

The stats aren’t backing up the fact that it’s a mega killer. Death rates of between 0.1 and 0.5% isn’t outrageous. The fact it effects a certain demographic of the country means it should be easier to control. I hope the government act rationally and proportionally.

      (Quote)

  5. I put the stats on here when all this started and in 2018 there were 500k deaths in the UK and and 3 million in the US. I agree with Stuart that this has gone on long enough, you just cannot shut down the entire economy for this, it will create problems that are worse. They seem to have got better with care and part of the issue was not to overwhelm hospitals.

I am not going to try to contradict Kimtoon because she knows much more about this than me having her son in the household who must be at high risk. However, it looks like most of the effects of Covid-19 are very similar to any flu in that 90% of the fatalities will be the old and infirm. Younger people seem to recover with a few exceptions and also some unexpected complications.

  6. It really doesnt help when you have an idiot for a President. Also, the FL Governor is a Trump Mini-Me. He took a victory lap a couple of months ago when there were few cases there. He should have known that it would take over eventually and they would be hardest hit because of demographics (old people) and how these old people are situated. Many are in retirement communities, high rises, and nursing homes. The perfect storm for spreading this virus. But now it has a foothold there it is never off the national news so there is fear spread even in States where the numbers are low.

If I turn on the news it is all death, death, death mainly TX, FL and AZ. They are about as far away as Newcastle to Helsinki but it is like they are on my Chicago doorstep the amount of coverage they get.

Stopped watching the news again, CV-19 and the Orange Man-Bay together are just too much. After 4 months of partial lock down I have had enough. I think it will affect my mental health if I watch too much news.

I follow the local warnings on the state website.

  7. Are the Saudis even interested in NUFC. It is all well and good that we have a social media campaign and MPs getting involved but do we still have willing buyers? This is what they said when they pulled out.

“The commercial agreement between the investment group and the clubs owners expired and our investment thesis could not be sustained particularly with no clarity under which the next season will start and new norms (under CV-19 restrictions).

Sounds to me like they had buyers remorse after a change in circumstances and so much bad publicity. I dont think they believe NUFC is worth 300 mil anymore and there is no guarantee they will come back to the table even if the PL relents.

I actually admire the people pushing for this takeover and who knows we have never really been in a position where social media holds so much sway. But, I ask again, is there still a willing buyer?

      (Quote)

  8. Then there is our budget. I have thought about this some more and remember Charnley discussing transfers and explaining at great length that when he gives out a figure that that is for the transfer fee, Agent fees AND wages. So 35 million has to cover all of that which means that the headline number of transfers without sales is probably nearer 20 million. And that is what I have said a few times. Hope I am wrong because the fees dont seem to be coming down as much as I thought they would (YET).

  9. Eric, think the Saudi’s have moved on now like. For me the petition is about having some answers why the fans and club were left in limbo if they knew full well they were just sitting on it.
Of course this is assuming that what Amanda said is true ” we won’t reject or pass you but sit on it month after month ”
If that is true, it’s neglect towards one of their member clubs, it also prevented Ashley from swiftly moving onto another buyer . Moreover it has massive implications for their future test on other would be owners of any club in that they could do it again if they were so inclined.
Imagine if PIF had not withdrawn, we could still be waiting now !
No, they simply cannot be allowed to bury their heads on this, they really have to address it .

      (Quote)

  10. But where does that get us Kimtoon? The PL will ignore our requests and Masters will act like nothing happened. Liverpool and Spurs are villains in this as well. You cannot have 2 clubs blocking a takeover for their own selfish gain. This all stinks to high heavens.

They will probably change the rules as well but why should the PL be getting involved in geopolitics and human rights issues? They cannot fix the world and if our Govts dont care why should they?

How will the PL be able to justify giving TV rights to the Saudis or Qatar if they ban them from owning clubs? That has always been the contradiction in the NUFC takeover bid. Sure, piracy. That’s a stalking horse. The real issue now is big 6 domination and them wanting to keep their position and riches.

It seems to me that the PL, like all football bodies, is corrupt. Ignoring the takeover issue is still a form of corruption. When Scudamore left, the PL asked all clubs for a “donation” of 250k each as a golden handshake. That’s 5 million quid. Nice work if you can get it! That’s on top of his basic and bonus which amounted to about 30 mil over his tenure I think.

This has been a disgrace, not least because of Delaney and others suddenly becoming human rights experts when they ignore Chelsea and Man City and even Saudi investment in Man U.

I know this has all been said before but I am not really sure what any of this – letters, petitions – will do except keeping a festering sore open. Is the goal to shame the PL? OK, but what does that do for NUFC going forwards? They wont sack Masters. He hasnt even made a comment and he can fall back on the excuse that he was waiting for the lawyers and due process. Nodody knows what they were even doing for all of this time so who is there to contradict him? We only ever got “No Comment” from all sides.

  11. There’s no way rival clubs should be allowed a say in takeovers!

Thinking ahead this would be something like my wish list.

    Morelos and Eduard
    Maitland Niles
    Alonso
    Tielemans
    Unknown midfield dynamo

2 of those could be loans and we can afford the rest.

      (Quote)

  12. Well they have spoken of a double swoop at Bmth – Wilson and Brooks.

I would rather see a double swoop at Brentford – Ollie Watkins and Rico Henry. Both quality and would get us a CF and LB.
If we could get Frazer and Hendrick free – that would be 4 good incomings imo.

      (Quote)

  13. We will probably get a statement from the PL now and it will probably say they had not reached a conclusion and needed more time.

Good that Ant and Dec posted the petition on twitter. They have 6.7 million followers. All this twitter stuff may sound like rubbish but people make a living now from being “influencers” on social media. It all seems very teenage girl to me but the Orange Man-Baby governs by twitter and the regular news outlets always take notice.

      (Quote)

  14. I saw a quote yesterday that Bournemouth are looking for 40 million for David Brooks. Sounds a bit steep but even half that puts him out of our league. That would leave Josh King at about 10-15 mil as our only option there.

I havent seen any links to any of our players yet. The Championship teams have no money and that would be the destination for the likes of Atsu. Muto back to the Bundesliga? I really cant see us getting more than 15 million in sales.

If this petition doesnt pan out Nickson and Bruce are going to have to wheel and deal this summer. Frees, loans, fringe players. I still think it will be a two-tier transfer window with Man U, City and Chelsea able to spend and the rest fighting for crumbs but we will be back to being outbid by the likes of West Ham and Villa.

  15. Glad Olly put up that picture of Mohammad Bin Salmon and Boris Johnson. It shows the difference in attitude of the UK Govt and the PL to Saudi Arabia. If I was organising a protest I would have that picture on a placard so the news cameras could remind people that Boris and the G20 are in bed with the Saudis.

FYI: I would also have a placard of Richard Keys holding a P45.

      (Quote)

  16. Everybody should watch at least one episode of The Keys and Gray show just to see how truly awful it is and how irrelevant they are. Their guests are all has-beens like Pardew and Big Fat Sam and never-weres like John Cross of the Daily Mirror who is pretty much their Arsenal correspondent. They will also occasionally have a non-league chairman on as well. Riveting stuff. They seem pretty well fed though as each has put on a bout 2 stone since moving to the middle east. Too much baklava and goat intestine soup?

      (Quote)

  17. Where is Sting anyway? He must have millions of followers on Twitter. C’mon Gordon. Your home town needs you.

And Vera! My mother doesnt watch that show because she thinks Brenda mangles the Geordie accent. I dont watch it because they dont show the beauty of the NE and mainly stick to crappy housing estates.

      (Quote)

  18. I didn’t ever expect to find an ally in Boris like but here’s hoping it’s not just a passing comment and he leans on the PL a little bit harder to give an explanation.

I don’t expect it will do a great deal in terms of the takeover, but let’s not forget – £17m was paid to get the deal as far as it did – the least that should buy is an explanation I reckon.

      (Quote)

  19. Sharpy17:

Not to mention the £1000’s spent on lawyers working on the deal by the consortium . As Amanda says they could of told them it was unlikely to pass before they started spending.

      (Quote)

  20. Do we really think we will get clarity from the PL? If they put out a statement it will not have anything to say about a yes or no answer. It will say they were in the middle of due process when the Saudi’s pulled out. If it says anything about the time frame it will say it was a complicated process with 3 potential owners and that’s why it was taking so long. They will not address any of the issues such as human rights or piracy because that would open up a can of worms.

If there is a statement it will be a non-statement statement. Telling us ****** all and leading to even more outrage by the NUFC fans, but to very little effect and Masters and Co will say they complied with the wishes of MPs, the PM and Supporters.

      (Quote)

  21. Some “source” in the Chronic is saying the takeover is not a dead duck and will be a war of attrition that will not take place before the beginning of the season. So what do we do? There is pretty much no transfer talk. Pretty much only picking up scraps from Bournemouth and expensive scraps at that. They are quoting 40 mil for David Brooks, so that’s us out. 20 mil for Wilson. No way. Josh king is almost 29 so the Rondon Rule means we are unlikely to go for him either. Where does that leave us?

I am leaning more and more to no money being available except from sales. I never believed the “war chest” of 35 mil. Where did that even come from? It just seems like it was pulled out of some Journos **** because it is a bit less than the 50-60 mil they assumed before CV-19 and the takeover saga.

That we are not even being linked with anybody, except by a few lazy journalists looking at relegated teams’ players, says a lot. Frees and loans is where we will be shopping. Maybe Willems and a striker, but God knows who and for how much. We better pray Sean Longstaff regains form and was not a flash in the pan.

      (Quote)

  22. Everybody is assuming Fulham and West Brom will struggle and Leeds will be fine. Not sure about that. I think Leeds will struggle as well. Villa are pretty ****, so they will be in the mix. Palace must be one of the favourites to go down as well. Burnley without Dyche? Sheffield might be a one season wonder. I think West Ham will be OK.

But we are in turmoil again. You cannot have all of these off-field distractions, no money and a journeyman manager with no Plan B and expect to survive. For the 1st half of the season (and last 5 games) his Plan A wasnt very good either. It looks like a season of least worst and surviving by luck.

Does anybody really think we will bring in a proven goalscorer. And that would not be Josh King who only got 7 last year.

      (Quote)

  23. You have to worry that we are fighting the last battle whilst everybody else is planning for the new season. We all know that we need at least 4 players – Left back, Centre Mid, Right wing, Striker. But the loan market is so spotty and rife with failures at their existing clubs or young-uns that their current club is sending out for experience.

We have just seen it with 4 players unwanted by their clubs:

    Willems – a success
    Rose – failure
    Bentelab – disaster
Lazaro – showed flashes but as used by Bruce you would have to say failure.

Does that offer us much hope?

Can you think of many unqualified successes in the PL? Happens more in The CHampionship. Ben Arfa was probably the last real success we had on loan. 1/2 a season of Kenedy maybe? 1/2 a season of Rondon (he was more of a swap as we had to send Gayle the other way)?

And there have been some real disasters. Slimani. Doumbia.

      (Quote)

  24. We’re knackered next season. Our budget is embarrassing and prices aren’t coming down. How do we improve as it’s not like we have any saleable assets either.

As for Covid – looks like cases are going up but hospital admissions are dropping as are death rates. One explanation is it’s young people making up the majority of new cases now. That’s how it should be done for the future.

      (Quote)

  25. Strange that Bournemouth went down because all of their forwards seem to be in high demand at pretty high prices. They must have had a **** defense or stopped listening to Howe. We are said to be in the mix for –

    King
    Fraser
    Callum Wilson
    Harry Wilson

Can’t really see any of them coming to SJP because there seems like there might be a bidding war for these players. Even for Fraser who is in it only for the money – he basically went on strike last year. I can see Bournemouth getting decent money for these players but I think it will be the major part of a team like Southampton’s budget and then the money will dry up for other players. All teams have wages they want off their books so I just dont see much demand for players like Atsu or Muto.

Therefore, I think we will have a hard time unloading our fringe players as once a few high profile players are bought the other clubs have no money. Jeff King on here quoted a value of 35 million but if we get 15 I will be surprised. I know Jeff put the caveat in that he was quoting Transfermarkt.

      (Quote)

  26. I mean, Josh King and Callum Wilson, and even Ryan Fraser have had decent seasons in the past. B’mth were unlucky that they all had a dry spell last season at the same time but you can see some talent there. What have Atsu and Muto ever done in the PL? I reckon any team buying these 2 are virtually admitting they are going to be relegated.

      (Quote)

  27. How can you even assess our players as they have hardly played and the one that did (Schar) had a bit of a nightmare. Normally there would be a few Championship clubs interested but they are skint. Same with French clubs and only the rich Italian clubs have any money. Can you really see Verona or Valencia stumping up 5 mil for Muto? Me neither.

      (Quote)

  28. Stu, mate. I dont see our fringe players being valued/bought at more than 15 mil total and Ashley’s budget being more than zero to 20 mil. We aren’t getting bought by anybody now until and if we are safe after Xmas. 200 million top price.

I signed the petition but Masters and all of the rest will just fudge any answers they have. Twitter and Eds can go into meltdown, but they would anyway!

      (Quote)

  29. The PL have been atrocious. They can’t even make a decision on their own test. Personally I believe the reason they haven’t rejected it is because legally they can’t. Their best case was what’s happened. Drag it out and hope they give up.

If not be surprised if Jabba started legal action against them.

      (Quote)

  30. That was a pretty negative view of where we are!!!!

I think I was also banned for calling Bobbybee a hypocrite for saying in 100,000 words (literally) that he would never boycott a toon game ever and then boycotting a toon game. Then another one posted Charnley’s address to have a protest march to. I said that maybe Lee had a wife and kids and football is football and you might not want to bring them into it.

  41. top 5 premier league players ever. You know who would be number 1 before his knees went. 2 years of Shearer peak are better than Thierry Henry peak. That Ronaldo was so good for so long swings it, man. So…

    1. Ronaldo

    2, Shearer

    3. Young Michael Owen

    4 Thierry Henry

    5. Probably Ryan Giggs except the fcking his sister-in-law makes me have second thoughts.

(Joint 5, just for Kimtoon) – Ginola.

  42. Ronaldo went 60 direct free kicks for Real Madrid before scoring the 61st at the Euros for Portugal. So, just for that, Shearer is #1. (even though it didnt happen in the PL).

I doubt if I will venture there soon.

Jib is like some sort of passive aggressive Hannibal Lecter. One day he is your friend, next he is calling you a c2nt.

I think I am stopping reading Ed’s from now on, although I do like what Neil says sometimes. Maybe I will just stop reading the comments.

G2 – the PL are a brand of their own and have already climbed into bed with some unsavoury owners.
My rose tinted toon specs don’t miss that fact. I can fully understand that they may be put off by the idea of the Saudis – but then they should have said that before taking the £17m and saved all this mess.

They take the **** out of this site for low comment numbers yet fail to grasp that few new comers will venture on their sight due to the aggression they show newbies.
It comes off as an old mans fight club, sad really.
That Jib has had a thousand careers lol.

  48. What i’d like to know, is what was in that leaked paperwork from the PL that Amanda and co saw the day before PIF withdraw ?
Apparently it angered all the consortium and seems to of triggered PIF’s reaction.

Some of the Ed bunch are complete yobbos. I ignore them whenever possible. They get the more aggressive bloggers on there. Many are obviously frustrated at their own inability to make a logical argument or even a coherent thought. A lot more useful information and calm, considerate blogging on here. Well done you lot!

we are too long in the tooth to put up with those children mate

That’s a new and very interesting angle Kim. Know any more?

No mate, it’s what Amanda told George Caulkin, it was seen the day before PIF withdrew, i would love to know what it said. Maybe they are saving it if they go to court ? Anyway someone at PL leaked something and apparently it’s supposed to be pretty explosive .

  52. Will the pressure tell on the PL? Surely it’s in everyone’s interest to see this happen? My guess is they haven’t rejected it because they can’t legally. I doubt we will hear from them but it’s a positive that Jabba is keen and talking to the buyers about how to move it forward. Between them I can’t believe they can’t sort it out.

  53. I see finally we have decided to record Covid deaths the same as the rest of the world. Limiting the timeline of death to 28 days. Now all of a sudden we have a less death rate than many in Europe per 100,000.

Actually I’m still shocked it was only about 5,000 knocked off the total.

    Hope so Stewie.

I just have a feeling nothing is happening before Christmas.

Hopefully Bin Salman will decide Keys and Gray are next on the Khasoggi list . Not really. I would rather have them put in a Turkish prison like Midnight Express. Do they torture people? Is it part of Europe now? But the UK and US do business with their rulers. And Thailand? Do they own UK football teams? I think they do. They had a Leicester City King Power shop last time I was in Bangkok airport. Quite a few movies made about their human rights abuses as well. Brokedown Palace.

JUst fking hypicrites. The PM even is paying lip service but the PL dont care because they are run by the Red Bindippers and baldy C2nt.

Yes, now we’ll get accurate figures hopefully and people can stop bickering over how lethal it is or isn’t.
In reality you only need look at the rows upon rows of ready dug and rapidly filled graves in US, Brazil and India to see how lethal this disease is , especially if you have a poor health system.
Having had 3 lots of Flu in my lifetime, i’ll take my chances with flu everytime over this covid which seems to have so many effects on the immune system, many of them long term.
Roll on a vaccine or herd immunity, just wanna get back to normal .

  57. Kim – worldwide it’s death rate is still somewhere between 0.1 and 0.5% so it’s still not particularly deadly. But it’s clear it’s more deadly to those of a certain age demographic who also have underlying heath issues.

There was a report last month that showed in June and July all death rate in the UK was lower than it was the previous few years. One reason put forward for that is that those who died of Covid in April/May May well have died anyway A couple of months later and therefore the all death rates are lower later in the year as people’s deaths have been brought forward by Covid. It’s all very complicated.

  59. Interesting to see the relegation odds. I dont think we were ever favourites to go down last year, it was the pundits and journos that had us relegated.

We still dont have the worst squad but who will score?

    Will we buy a striker?

Gayle will not stay fit for the season.

We have a manager who has a tendency to go on death spirals and an owner who wont sack him.

We need Sean Longstaff and Lejeune to become good again and we need a goalscorer to stay up. Or that the Refs wake up to Jack Grealish’s blatant cheating so that Villa are the 3rd relegated team after Fulham and WBrom.

Without another striker, I reckon a max of 37 points but it could easily be 31.
