“They’d want to come” – Newcastle told to sign £60m trio in January by Toon legend

Ron Lee has urged the new owners of Newcastle United to sign Jesse Lingard, James Tarkowski and Kieran Trippier in the January transfer window.

All three have been heavily linked with a move to St James’ Park this winter, with The Times’ Martin Hardy reporting over the weekend that Lingard has been identified as the club’s top target and offered a lucrative contract that could make him our highest paid of all time.

Leading database Transfermarkt value the trio at a combined £60m, although it’s worth noting that Tarkowski and Lingard will be ‘free agents’ next summer if they refuse to sign new deals at Burnley and Manchester United, respectively.

Lee believes all three would “want to come” to Newcastle now new owners are in place, feeling they’d add experience and proven quality at Premier League level to Eddie Howe’s squad.

Here’s what Lee told Coffee Friend when asked to name a few players he’d like to see his old club sign next month:

“I would say Kieran Trippier, James Tarkowski and Jesse Lingard.

“Lingard would score goals, it’s what Newcastle need. West Ham are probably desperate to get him back, he was unbelievable for them. He’s got energy, he gets around the pitch and he’ll get on the end of things and score goals.

“Tarkowski, he’s been in England squads, he’s a good defensive player, strong, quick and a bit of a leader.

“I’ve always liked Trippier, they’re the players you could get and they’d want to come to Newcastle. That’s important.

“We don’t want players coming to Newcastle just for the money, but players who want to play for this club and play for these fans. If we get those types of players in, we’ll be okay.”
