Alan Shearer names most improved player under Eddie Howe & Saturday’s unsung hero in TOTW

Alan Shearer has named TWO Newcastle United players in his latest Premier League Team of the Week following our 1-1 draw at West Ham.

He’s selected Joe Willock in midfield – arguably our most improved player under Eddie Howe – and Matt Targett at left-back; one of the unsung heroes from Saturday’s game.

Willock has been building in confidence recently, putting in a string of promising performances against Leeds, Everton and Aston Villa to keep Bruno Guimaraes out of the side, however his display over the weekend was superb in all aspects.

He was carrying the ball with pace, ghosting past opposition players like we saw last season, working hard and providing that goal threat all afternoon, with his clever finish proving crucial in the end.

As for Matt Targett, he kept one of the Premier League’s top performing wingers quiet in Jarrod Bowen, defending superbly throughout, being a reliable outlet in possession and linking up nicely with Jacob Murphy at times.

Here’s Shearer’s Team of the Week in full, seeing the NUFC duo selected alongside Mo Salah, Harry Kane and Wout Weghorst; the giant Dutchman who replaced Chris Wood at Burnley:
