Newcastle bring in 19-year-old talent on trial – but his Toon ‘debut’ didn’t go to plan – Report

Newcastle United have brought in Aston Villa’s Tristan Goodridge on trial, with the winger making his first appearance for our Under-23s in a defeat to Middlesbrough last week.

The 19-year-old is expected to leave Villa in the summer and ChronicleLive have reported that we are keen to take a closer look at the wide man with a view to him joining our Academy on a permanent basis.

Unfortunately for the youngster, he was hooked at half-time in the U23s defeat at Boro last week, with us 2-0 down at the break and eventually losing 4-2 after mounting a mini comeback at the Riverside.

The teenager has four goals and three assists in 17 Premier League 2 games for Aston Villa this season, while also scoring once and assisting twice in a 4-2 win over Burton Albion in the Papa Johns Trophy.

Goodridge signed for the Villans from AFC Wimbledon in 2019 and is a versatile player who can play left-wing, right-wing and occasionally has played as a centre-forward.

Our Under-23s now sit sixth in the Premier League 2 Division 2 and are hoping for a final push for promotion to Division 1.
