Newcastle and Leeds to battle over title-winning star – “I want to leave”

Speaking to Turkish outlet A Spor, Trabzonspor goalkeeper Ugurcan Cakir has issued a transfer plea to Premier League clubs amid interest from both Leeds and Newcastle.

The 26-year-old has played 34 times in the Turkish Super Lig this season, keeping 11 clean sheets and playing a key role as he captained his side to a league title with four games to spare.

After ten years at the Black Sea side, the Turksih international is ready to leave for a new challenge and the project we are building at Newcastle may just be the perfect opportunity for him.

Fanatik, another Turkish outlet, have revealed that Newcastle and Leeds have made contact with the shot-stopper’s representatives over a potential £17million move to the Premier League.

With Newcastle urgently wanting to replace Martin Dubravka, Cakir may be a more viable option as opposed to Manchester United’s Dean Henderson who has been given a £40million price tag.

On his future, Cakir said: “One of my goals is to go to Europe. If a suitable offer arrives for me, I want to go. I have won three cups at Trabzonspor now. They won’t be angry with me if I leave. If there is a reasonable offer, I want to go.

“There were offers before, but I was always in the middle (of fighting for a title). I made a lot of sacrifices. The club know it. If there is a reasonable offer, I want to go this season.
