Newcastle to launch £55m bid for top summer target ‘this week’ – L’Equipe

It looks like Hugo Ekitike isn’t the only Frenchman we’re looking to sign this summer.

According to a Sunday night update from L’Equipe, Newcastle will launch a £55m bid for Bayer Leverkusen winger Moussa Diaby this week.

The same outlet stated that the 22-year-old was a ‘priority target’ of ours just a few weeks ago, stating that a formal offer was imminent – and now they’ve named the opening bid they expect us to come forward with over the coming days.

Diaby bagged 17 goals and 14 assists in all competitions last season, ending the Europa League season for 2021/22 with an impressive six goal involvements in eight appearances.

With The Telegraph, The Mail, The i and The Chronicle all confirming our interest in the France international since these big claims from L’Equipe first emerged, it really does look like we’ll make a big push for Diaby this summer – a quality right winger with bags of pace and even bigger potential.

Just like Bruno was a few months ago, this would be a huge coup and an exciting addition to our attack if we could tempt the former PSG talent to join this ambitious new project at Newcastle United.
