Newcastle line up move for Rangers talent as Toon officials are spotted in Scotland – Report

According to the Scottish Sun, Newcastle United are showing interest in Rangers midfielder Cole McKinnon.

They reveal that we’ve already sent scouts to watch the 19-year-old in action this season, with him currently on loan at second tier side Partick Thistle.

It’s unclear how it would work given he’s currently out on loan, however the report states that we are lining up a January bid for the Scotland U19 international as we look to bolster our Academy.

McKinnon has bagged two goals and an assist in six appearances in the Scottish Championship so far this season, also scoring for Rangers in a 3-1 win over Hearts back in May; which was his senior debut for the SPL giants.

He’s highly-rated at Rangers and was handed a new deal to keep him at Ibrox until 2025 over the summer, but it seems we could test their resolve with a mid-season bid for the attacking midfielder.

After we strengthened our U21 ranks with summer moves for Alex Murphy, Charlie McCarthur, Jordan Hackett and Jude Smith – two of which arrived from Scotland – Mckinnon could be another one to watch in the new year.
