Toon fans launch new attack on Michael Owen as £16m flop is at it again in baffling interview – Video

Former Newcastle United flop Michael Owen has continued his path of ruining the minimal credibility he earned at the club in a recent interview with BT Sport.

The retired-striker, now 42, spent almost as much time with the physio as he did his teammates during his time on Tyneside – but this hasn’t stopped the fan least-favourite from making his best efforts to further tarnish his blemished legacy in the North East.

In a recent ‘What I Wore’ video, Owen spoke on how he would have preferred a return to Liverpool following his one-year stay with Real Madrid, making it clear (once again) that he had no interest in signing at St James’ Park.

The England international then claims that Real Madrid were offered a deal from Freddie Shepherd of £16million, with it being in Owen’s contract that after one year Liverpool would be able to sign him for £12million the following year, followed by £8million after another year and £4million in the final year in Newcastle – making it more embarrassing that the club he craves the validation of never signed him.

It’s fair to say Newcastle fans already had a strong dislike towards Owen, but his latest comments have sparked further fume on social media. Here’s what Owen had to say, followed by comments from Toon fans on Twitter:

For me, I would prefer we stopped giving Owen the attention as he seems to be the main club Newcastle ever talk about – but here are what Newcastle fans on Twitter had to say:

“The pride in which Michael Owen talks about trying to screw over two football clubs in order to get signed by one that never wanted him again…his absolute detachment from reality…well, it’s impressive.” – @Chateau_Nouveau

“Happy to take the money though, feign injury before the [Aston] Villa game so [he] could get a move, then move to Liverpool’s biggest rivals. No wonder you are the most detested player to ever play for the Toon and we have had a few of them over the years.” – @garytinnion

“For everyone that isn’t aware because they aren’t a Newcastle United fan…we already know this story as he’s repeated it MANY times and THIS is the reason he’s absolutely VILIFIED by our fans up here. The disrespect shown to the club that paid his wages is unmatched.” – @ToonMouthTyne

“If you wanted to play for Liverpool that much you shouldn’t have left in the first place!” – @kevin_busby

“Liverpool didn’t want him. Real Madrid didn’t need him.” – @wyilegeordie

“This is the bloke who received a momentous welcome at Nufc the day he signed. I was buzzing when he signed. Turned out a disaster. It’s always about him.” – @bobbi_walker

“Newcastle’s worst ever signing” – @TheHonestJohns

“I’ll force them into a corner”. Real Madrid, Newcastle, Man United. How can one man who claims to be a professional be so insulting to a number of different teams in one short video. We see the real Michael Owen here – lacking integrity, grace or common sense. Shocking. – @PratMobile

“Imagine actually doing this interview and believing it’s going to paint you in a good light! What an absolute knacker” – @Chris_p18

“Yet he complains about the reception he gets when he comes up? The disrespect to Newcastle is incredible. Horrible, horrible man.” – @CraigMidd

“No respect for the club, city or fans” – @mjsquires

“What an ungrateful waste of space” – @J_Langston_NUFC

“Who does he think he is? Liverpool buying Torres and Suarez because of his dodgy knee? He was quite clearly pushed out [by Real Madrid]. He came [to Newcastle] for a big payday.” – @hameobi

“An absolute thief” – @jaybeebody

  1. He was not a flop and scored quite a few goals, but his arrogance is his main problem with our fans, especially his negative comments.

  2. “For me, I would prefer we stopped giving Owen the attention”, says the person who writes and article and dedicates a page to fans’ comments.

Not every fan thinks the same as you – You really do need to get over it.
