Club attempting to sign top Toon target to new deal in fear of fresh Newcastle bid – Report

According to The Chronicle, Leicester City are desperately trying to tie up Newcastle target James Maddison to a new deal as he approaches the final 18 months of his contract.

In the summer window, Newcastle had two bids rejected for the midfielder, believed to be in the region of £40-£45m, but it hasn’t deterred the Magpies from planning a third bid when the January window opens.

The Times revealed last month that we are preparing a fresh move in January, adding that the player himself is ’open’ to moving on to better his England prospects.

However, after already losing Wesley Fofana to Chelsea and Youri Tielemans also wanting out, manager Brendan Rodgers has reiterated on multiple occasions that Maddison is not for sale.

Since May 11, only Erling Haaland (17) has recorded more Premier League goals and assists than Maddison (14) – equal to Kevin De Bruyne and one higher than Harry Kane.

With 18 months left on his current deal, Leicester will have to act fast in giving the 25-year-old a new contract or cash in while they still can and while his stock is still very high.
