Eddie Howe identifies ‘statement signing’ with Premier League duo also shortlisted – Report

As reported by The Mirror, Eddie Howe wants Chelsea winger Christian Pulisic to be our ‘statement signing’ in January, but Leeds’ Jack Harrison and Brighton’s Leandro Trossard have also been shortlisted.

It is believed that Chelsea value the USA star at around £40m, although it’s thought we’ll attempt to negotiate a cut-price fee after spending upwards of £200m in the previous two windows.

Both Arsenal and Manchester United are also said to be interested in the 24-year-old, but they would be aiming to make it a loan deal only.

The promise of regular football at Newcastle – assuming he can stay fit – could play a huge fact in the former Dortmund man’s decision should we have a bid accepted.

However, should we fail, it’s believed both Harrison and Trossard are consider as back-up options, although it is unlikely that they will come much cheaper given their importance to their respective teams.

The signing of a wide player will likely mean the departure of Ryan Fraser who has struggled for playing time due to both a lack of form and a number of injury problems.
