Embarrassing from Arsenal as player posts video on Twitter after Arteta rants at Toon draw

According to Mikel Arteta, it was “scandalous” that Arsenal weren’t awarded TWO penalties in last night’s 0-0 draw with Newcastle United.

After winning their last 10 Premier League games at the Emirates, the Spaniard threw his toys out of the pram as they struggled to break us down in the closing stages, squaring up to Eddie Howe after screaming at officials for a Jacob Murphy handball.

VAR waved it away – it was never a penalty based on the distance between the player and cross and position of his hand – but the post-match complaints didn’t stop with Arteta.

Not only have Gunners fans accused us of ‘anti-football’ on social media, slating our physical approach, fouls and time-wasting, star centre-back Gabriel Magalhaes has posted a video of the other penalty shout Arteta was referring to.

The clip shows the Brazilian going down under a challenge from Dan Burn yet comes from a free kick that should never have been awarded, as replays show Joelinton clearly got a toe on the ball ahead of Saka. Was it a penalty? I’ve seen them given, but to moan about this decision is rather ironic when Gabriel was guilty of hauling Burn down in the first half.

Nevertheless, here’s Gabriel and Arteta’s laughable reactions on a night where Arsenal were well and truly frustrated by Eddie Howe’s Mags:

The only thing “scandalous” about last night’s game was Mikel Arteta’s behaviour on the touchline.

  1. It’s embarrassing that you keep trying to defend your own crappy time wasting antics. The best team got hard done and they can’t moan like everyone else does??Like you lot did under Mike Ashley.I’m guessing if the same happens at your ground you’re gonna give Arsenal a standing ovation eh and say well played and not moan after the game.

  2. Yes Newcastle are certainly getting under the skin of the top six who think they have a divine right to occupy those positions.
Joelinton was exceptional and he did get a toe to the ball that led to the free kick, but as I have said on many occasions Wood with his small cameo again proved how absolutely useless he is when he didn’t know what to do and missed a glorious chance, frightened to have a go!
seanxalazobbi.. many teams time waste just like Leeds did, and we weren’t good enough to overcome it, neither were Arsenal!

  3. Exactly Joseph and they all complain like you lot do when they waste time so that have a pop at a team for complaining afterwards. So after all this high and mighty attitude I’m expecting a standing ovation at St James and people saying we played well and not moaning afterwards…..am I correct??Yeah right.

  4. Surely I can’t be the only Toon supporter who gets frustrated with our lack of venom up front and our insistence on resorting to time wasting tactics?
    It’s embarrassing!
By the way Olly, its all very well slagging off the Gooners but I notice you didn’t even try to claim that Burn’s mandhandling of Gabriel wasn’t a penalty, instead just coming up with a completely nonsensical argument that it came from a free kick that shouldn’t have been a free kick.
I agree – Joelinton got a toe to the ball, so it wasn’t a foul, but how does that in any way make Arteta’s shout for a penalty any less valid, or in your words, “embarrassing”.
Even Howe body swerved the question on that one.
Yeah yeah, I can already hear the cries of “mackem”, because apparently that’s what the brainwashed shout when somebody disagrees with them, but unless you can come up with a reason why that wasn’t a penalty, don’t waste your time.
    Bit weak there Olly.

Did you see Gabriel’s manhandling of Burn at the other end? No pen given there. Xhaka should’ve also received a second yellow in the 2nd half. It was a textbook booking to stop a counter attack.

I realise you tend to say black when I say white on here – I’m not sure what you have against me to be honest – but I think most Mags will agree that Arsenal players, staff and fans embarrassed themselves with their desperation last night.

As for the Burn ‘foul’, I think that’s a 50/50 call. And the second (handball by Murphy) is never a pen, so to suggest both were ‘scandalous’ errors is embarrassing.

  6. I’m with Olly.
Whether it’s a valid pen shout or not it shouldn’t even be up for debate because the free kick should not of happened and that situation wouldn’t of arisen.
Arsenal are the biggest bunch of moaners ever, we had the same so called time wasting tactics used against us but we don’t ***** and moan on.

  7. The biggest farce was that silver spoon fed Spanish shyte house prancing and moaning on the touchline ,Newcastle countered in the main and had the two best chances , Arsenal huffed and puffed and Pope had 1 real effort to kick away all night Burn hauled down in their box and he manhandled in ours , Petulant Spanish pryk should be given a touchline ban and lessons on how to behave ,directly from the Eddie Howe How to conduct yourself as a PROFESSIONAL manual
