Newcastle identify electric winger as ‘dream’ signing in 2023 – Report

According to German outlet BILD, Newcastle have identified Bayer Leverkusen’s Moussa Diaby as a ‘dream transfer’ and have not given up on the winger after a ‘failed’ bid in the summer.

We’ve been after a wide forward for some time now, but it may be a blessing in disguise that one didn’t arrive a few months ago, as top scorer Miguel Almiron has enjoyed a stunning run of form over the past six months.

However, we still lack strength in depth out wide and the in-form Frenchman could provide us with great quality in the second half of the season.

We were in for the former PSG man in the summer, but failed to submit a bid that matched Leverkusen’s lofty valuation. Newcastle seemingly moved on to other targets – James Maddison was pursued for a spell – but it seems Diaby still features highly on Howe’s wanted list.

The 23-year-old has bagged six goals and three assists in 15 Bundesliga appearances this season, as well as two goals in the Champions League despite Leverkusen’s poor form in the league.

With the German side not wanting to sell their star man and the player contracted to the club until 2025, it may take the sort of money FFP restrictions won’t allow to sign him this month, but he could well be one to watch in the summer?
