Sky Sports reveal surprise boost from Newcastle camp ahead of Saturday’s trip to Aston Villa

It looks like Miguel Almiron is ahead of schedule in his comeback from a thigh injury and in with a shout of returning to action this weekend.

After withdrawing from international duty last month, Eddie Howe announced that our top scorer would be sidelined for six weeks; suggesting he’d be missing until the end of April.

However, Keith Downie and the Sky Sports cameras have spotted the 29-year-old back in full training this morning, revealing that he’s now in contention to return to the squad this weekend.

We have actually done brilliantly in his absence, with Jacob Murphy putting in some brilliant displays down our right-hand side, but it would be a huge boost to have Almiron back for Saturday’s trip to Aston Villa.

Here’s what Downie had to say from Benton, followed by footage of the Paraguayan back in action:

“This morning, it’s the first time I’ve seen him in a couple of weeks, is Miguel Almiron.

“He was injured around four weeks ago and we were told he would face around six weeks on the sidelines, but he’s back in full training today.”

“Does that mean he will be back in contention for Aston Villa on Saturday? We must wait and see, but we all know what he can do – he’s Newcastle’s top scorer this season.

“He’ll be battling with Anthony Gordon for a place against Aston Villa on Saturday.”
