“This could be the game” – Paul Merson predicts Newcastle vs Arsenal and hails Howe’s Mags

Paul Merson has released his prediction ahead of today’s top of the table clash on Tyneside, believing Newcastle will hold Arsenal to a 1-1 draw.

The Sky Sports pundit fears this could be the game that ends Mikel Arteta’s hopes of a Premier League title, as a point would leave them three behind Man City having played a game more.

As for Newcastle, a draw would see us move four clear of Liverpool – with a game in hand – and three ahead of Man Utd; who travel to West Ham in today’s late kick-off.

Merson has hailed our recent form and the ‘unbelievable’ record we have at home this season, backing this one to be brilliant contest between two sides playing ‘fantastic football’ this season.

Here’s what he told Sportskeeda in his weekly prediction piece:

‘This could be the game that finishes Arsenal off in the Premier League title race, as Newcastle United are in incredible form. Eddie Howe and co have been unbelievable at home this season and are well-positioned to secure a place in the UEFA Champions League next season.

‘If Arsenal win this, I think they title race could be back on, as Manchester City have a bunch of interesting games coming up.

Both Arsenal and Newcastle have played fantastic football this season and this will be a great contest, but unfortunately, I can’t see Arsenal winning this one. The pressure will be on them and the Magpies are a tough nut to crack at St. James’ Park, so I think this game will finish 1-1.

Prediction: Newcastle 1-1 Arsenal.’
