Dan Ashworth raids Brentford and 16-goal youngster closing in on Newcastle move

Newcastle United have appointed Brentford’s Hedy Hassine as our new international scout.

The France-based talent spotter had been working as the lead Western Europe scout at Brentford but will now focus on first-team targets and emerging talent in Newcastle’s new and improved scouting network overseen by Dan Ashworth.

Hassine announced the move on his LinkedIn page, stating: “After two fantastic seasons with Brentford Football Club, I am proud to announce that I have just joined Newcastle United as first team and emerging talent international scout. I would like to sincerely thank the club for the trust.

“Newcastle United is a great institution of English and European football with an ambitious project and great people. We have an exciting Premier League and Champions League season ahead of us. Let’s get to work.”

Elsewhere, it looks like the club are working on another behind-the-scenes deal at Academy level, with Inter Milan youngster Kevin Zefi in ‘advanced talks’ to join the club.

The Irish Examiner said we were ‘favourites’ to sign the 18-year-old earlier this week due to Dan Ashworth’s strong links with emerging talent in Ireland. Now, the Northern Echo have revealed that we are closing in on a deal for the Irishman.

Zefi has one year remaining on his deal and scored 16 goals in 23 appearances at youth level last season, which included four outings in the UEFA Youth League.
