New Eddie Howe transfer update as Toon target more after Harvey Barnes

Eddie Howe has revealed that we are already working on the next deal and that there are ‘a couple of areas we are looking at’ after the signing of Harvey Barnes was confirmed.

Both Barnes (£38m) and Sandro Tonali (£55m) will have taken up a hefty portion of the transfer budget, but Howe is still keen to strengthen in at least two more areas.

Full-back is already a known area of improvement as we have been heavily linked with a move for Southampton’s Tino Livramento, but are yet to agree a fee.

In terms of other positions, we would ideally bring in a right-sided centre back to support Fabian Schar, a more defensive-minded midfielder and possibly a third striker.

It’s unlikely that we can secure all of these signings, but Howe has reminded fans to ‘wait and see’ what we are able to do in the remaining weeks of this window.

Here’s what Howe had to say on incomings:

“Mentally, you are always on to the next one. We were keen to get Harvey done and we have.”

“Now we are looking at what other areas we need to strengthen, there are a couple of other areas we are looking at.

“Whether we are able to do those deals and fill those positions, let’s wait and see.”

  1. I love the way you give us the benefit of your experience by throwing in that we may be looking for a third striker, even though Eddie Howe has publicly stated we are not looking to bring in another striker.
There again, would it be beyond the realms of reason and sanity for Andrew Reynolds to claim he knows more of the workings behind the scenes at SJP than Eddie Howe?

  2. Not necessarily, but it is clearly beyond your wit to recognise that managers are often economical with the truth when it comes to transfers.

  3. agreed, we’re not getting a 3rd striker and i dont think we need another midfielder either. My top 3 would be CB, LB, AMR

Howe has got some very tough calls to make. Jamal, Jacob, Matty T, new additions drop them further down the pecking order and its prob not fair to them, they’ve been solid pro’s and done well with their limited playing time… harsh, but champs league and top 4 EPL re-run is going to be pretty unforgiving to those players not up to scratch…
