Manager confirms Newcastle rumours – Player could make debut on Saturday following exit

Swansea City boss Michael Duff has confirmed that Newcastle defender Harrison Ashby is in Wales and set to sign on a season-long loan.

Eagle-eyed fans felt they’d spotted a photo of the 21-year-old with the Welsh club earlier this week and Duff has now announced that the player is “in the door”, with official registration to follow soon.

He reveals that the Championship side “wanted him in 10 days ago” but were made to wait by Newcastle. This makes sense, as we’ve only just agreed a deal with fellow right-back Tino Livramento, allowing us to sanction Ashby’s move to the Swans.

However, if he’s registered in time, Duff is “hoping” the former West Ham talent will be available for their opening game of the season against Birmingham this Saturday. Here’s what he told the press when asked about Ashby just moments ago:

“Harrison Ashby’s in the door, We’re just waiting for the registration to be signed off.

“We wanted him in 10 days ago, but he’s ultimately Newcastle’s player, so we’re at the hands of other people sometimes.

“We’re hoping he’ll be available for selection on Saturday [versus Birmingham City].”

Ashby joins Jamal Lewis (Watford) in sealing a loan move to the second tier, while Karl Darlow will also come up against the Newcastle United duo after sealing a permanent move to Leeds.

Garang Kuol is set to join Eredivisie side FC Volendam Yankuba Minteh is spending the season at Feyenoord, Allan Saint-Maximin has left for Al-Ahli and Kell Watts has left for Wigan; joining the Latics on loan in the final 12 months of his contract.
