Sky Sports: Mike Ashley eyeing new takeover bid two years on from £305m sale

Former Newcastle owner Mike Ashley is exploring potential takeover bid of League One side Reading following their severe financial issues, according to Sky Sports.

Fans have been protesting against current owner Dai Yongge, who has been at the club since 2017 and oversaw relegation to the third tier last season thanks to a six-point deduction due to financial irregularities.

This season, the Royals have again been given a four-point deduction and currently sit bottom of League One with serious risk of being relegated in successive seasons.

Ashley is believed to be in discussions with senior figures at the club, with this coming just over two years on from his £305m deal to sell Newcastle to the Saudis.

After his 14-year long stint at St James’ Park ended in 2021, the businessman is keen to get back into football and only recently purchased Coventry City’s stadium, the CBS Arena.
