After an injury scare last week, it’s emerged that Fabian Schar is back in “normal training” and in contention to play in Switzerland’s final group game of Euro qualifying tomorrow night.
This is the message The Chronicle received from the Swiss FA on Monday morning, with Lee Ryder revealing that Newcastle and Switzerland’s backroom staff have been in touch throughout the international break.
This comes after Schar was forced to sit out their 1-1 draw with Israel last week due to ‘muscular problems’. He was also an unused substitute in Saturday’s draw with Kosovo, but he’s expected to play in Tuesday night’s Group I clash in Romania.
It’s a relief to hear he’s back in full training, easing fears that he’s aggravated that hamstring issue picked up in our 2-0 defeat to Bournemouth. However, it’ll be a nervy night for Eddie Howe tomorrow, as we simply can’t afford to lose another defender after recent injuries to Dan Burn, Sven Botman and Matt Targett.
Let’s hope he comes through OK and is fit for Saturday’s clash with Chelsea.
