D-day for Newcastle as Saudi deadline looms and Howe reveals telling transfer stance

Newcastle fans will soon know whether or not Miguel Almiron is on his way the Saudi Arabia.

The January transfer window closes at 11pm on Thursday 1st February in England, but Saudi Pro League clubs have until tomorrow to do business, with their winter window shutting on Tuesday 30th January.

Miggy has received serious interest from Al-Shabab – an SPL club who are not owned by the PIF. Recent reports have suggested that the Paraguayan is settled on Tyneside with his young family and isn’t sold on a move to the Middle East, yet it’s a rumour that isn’t going away as the club look to offload in order to recruit over the final few days of the window.

This was a message Eddie Howe made abundantly clear in this morning’s press conference, stating it would be “impossible” – due to FFP/PSR rules – for Newcastle to make any signings this month if we don’t move someone on.

Asked about outgoing earlier today, he said – “We are waiting to see what happens. I don’t want to talk about individual player names (on outgoings). I don’t think that’s right.

“It’s a complex situation. . I don’t think anything is clear cut. All eventualities could happen. Nothing is clearcut and all eventualities could happen. What we probably won’t do is bring a player in without losing one the other way. That would be impossible, but all other options could still happen.”

Kieran Trippier has ruled out a move, Callum Wilson’s commitment to the club was highlighted in today’s press conference and Howe spoke of his reluctance to lose captain Jamaal Lascelles amid interest from Besiktas.

If Almiron is our biggest hope of raising funds and allowing us to spend in the final few days of the window, the next 24 hours feel huge now the Saudi window is close to closing.

  1. I would keep Longstaff at least until summer, Murphy will be a good squad player for next season plus we wouldn’t get much for him, so arguably he has more value as a capable body that can rotate with other players.

Dummett and Ritchie will go in the summer, I doubt if any decent bids will come in for them in January.
