No need to sell and money to spend, says Pardew

Pardew has money to spend
Rumours have been a big part of the summer so far. In fact I’m struggling to recall a summer quite like it in terms of players linked with moves to us.

Naturally these rumours have been interspersed with players being linked with moves away from us, but for those fearing that particular scenario then Alan Pardew’s words in the Sunday Mirror should be of interest to you.

The silver-haired supremo has revealed that United have the cash to bring in as many as three more players this summer, and perhaps most tellingly, also revealed that the he can do so without the need to sell one of our bigger players to fund the recruitment process over the next six weeks or so.

“I know we can sign two or three players and keep all those we have. I know we can do that. I think we will be stronger,” Pardew told the Sunday Mirror.

“And if we do lose a marquee player to a really inflated price – an Andy Carroll price – then we have got to trust our judgement and go into the market place and bring in an equivalent, and I think Mike is quite comfortable with that.”

“The big job this summer is keeping players, as well as signing them. I think that is the key. We still have a window wide open and everyone is analysing and looking at what they did over the last year and at what other teams did. A lot of people will look at us, so I’m not out of the woods on that for sure.”

“I don’t fear a big offer coming in, I expect it. I expect a bid for one of our marquee players. Whether it’s enough money to take the player away, we will have to wait and see, but it would have to be a lot of money.”

“I would be very surprised if the spirit and camaraderie we built up last season was broken up, unless we lost four or five players – and I cannot see that in a million years.”

What about the aims for next season though? The other day he suggested that the fans would be happy with an eighth placed finish, but is the real aim for this season? Improvement it seems is the order of the day.

“We finished fifth, but that was last season. It is important that the message gets through to the players here that, while it is a good finish, it isn’t winning the league,” said Pardew.

“There are still four places to aim at above us and, if you want to be a winner, then you have to be better than you were last season.”

So nobody out, two or three in, plus an assault on the Premier League title? That wouldn’t be too shabby would it. I’d quite like us to conquer Europe whist we’re at it, and maybe win a domestic cup competition. Is that too much to ask?

In all seriousness though these are pretty positive words. Yes one of our big players could still go and no doubt people will say that Pardew is “whoring” our players out again, but look at the facts. It’s going to take big money to do so and the kind of clubs that can offer that will more than likely ***** the interest of the player in question as they will be clubs who are competing in the Champions League. It’s happened at bigger and more successful clubs than ours so we can’t be surprised can we?

Right, now back to waiting for something concrete to happen…

  1. Just saw SSN, they were just talking about Newcastle requesting a loan deal Liverpool 😯

  3. Newkie thats the thing but Jabba get Lambastad to come out and give us all this **** about the money being reinvested etc etc and that if it wasn’t for Jabba putting money into the club we’d be **** and so we should give him a break ❓ it his club so why shouldn’t he put money into the club it wasn’t us that got the club relegated, oh and we should be grateful that he give us an interest free loan 😯 so what its his fault he never done due diligence and after all it’s the fans that will be paying for his mistakes

  4. Dave, it’s attitudes like that, that got us into our mountain of debt and saddled us with the 5th highest wage bill in the premier league through years of finishing mid table.
Who gives two flying effs about the clubs finances so long as they aren’t being jeopardy. We signed decent players last summer why the hell still moan about it?!

Ashley didn’t get us relegated. He was a large part of it yeah. But our disgustingly expensive, overpaid team got us relegated. That was during the era where the club was run in the way you want with EVERY penny spent.

@Newkie, none of know what we spent the money on. Unless you can find me a log of Newcastle United finances we will just be guess. It’s not as simple as having a jar labelled “transfer pot” and using whatever is in there from sales. I can imagine a % of all money (transfers included) into the club will be to repay our debts until they are clear.

  5. Dave-Exactly mate.

It’s not even fans that bring it up half the time…sometimes you just have to let things lie, but like I said in this article it was as if Llambias was generally pleased that he could talk all this *****-just because we had a good season is no excuse to act like he did and essentially insult fans by claiming they knew exactly what they were doing.

  6. I reckon I would be. I think he’s a judas fck. Can’t help wanting him to do well though, so if it was here i’d be even happier.
Loan means no financial risk and funds can be used elsewhere
Liverpool would be a laughing stock.

  7. ST
I would like it to happen, but why would they loan him to their direct competition, a team in which he’d get the same amount of game time(unless Ba goes).

      (Quote)

  8. True. Maybe we’ll be paying a huge wedge of his wages. And they might think it’s what he needs to reignite his form enough for them to sell at a decent price. Don’t think he has a future there anyway so guess they just need to make the ugly lug look like as attractive a buy as they can.

      (Quote)

  9. ST no offence but your talking out of your ***, not once have I asked for astronomical figures to be spent on players , so how da fuk to you work out that I want every penny to be spent ❓ ❓
Jabba and his mismanagement of the club was the biggest reason for us being relegated I think the fact that our disgustingly overpaid players didn’t know what was happening due to the fact that they had 5 different managers in just over a season all with different ideas was a factor, and whos fault was that ???? I think you’ll find it was Jabba.
So before telling me what it is I want makesure you know what your talking about and don’t be coming of with stupid statements like ” That was during the era where the club was run in the way you want with EVERY penny spent.”

    Isn’t Dembele(#1) leaving Fulham 😕 ?
    On AC
If he comes we can say goodbye to Ba, the loan offer itself suggests that he’s going.

  12. for ssn to have it talks must be advanced.
he will have to take a massive wage cut, plus will he be 1st choice ahead of cisse and ba.
is pards going to change the style of play to fit with the judas i hope not like

      (Quote)

  13. If Carroll comes back I hope the bindippers pay most of his wages while he is on loan 😆 😆

  14. Dave
It was Freddie’s fault that we got relegated, Mike came in thinking it would be easy to run the club but then saw that he had to solve the previous regimes problems. He struggled to manage the egos of the players, the managers and US the fans, who would critisise everything that was done causing him make more stupid decisions. In retrospect however relegation was the best thing that could’ve happened.

      (Quote)

  15. Dave, chill out dear, i’m just replying to your post. “IMO player sales should be re invested in players nowt else” To me that suggests every penny 🙄
Simpleton assertions like that fly in the face of good financial sense, improving the team is important but sometimes there are just as valid issues a club needs to put it’s money toward.

So basically a company gets taken over a few times and the employees have a god given excuse if their performances go to ****. Your tired hate of the board is clouding your view, the players were under-performing for years and the main reason we went down. Ashley just made things worse.

Don’t have any time for fans that can still complain about Ashley’s transfer strategy. We are the envy of the league in that area and we still have people that moan about it. Unbelievable.

  16. Get Big Andy back. All options up front. Remember Demba fed off Shola against Manure

      (Quote)

  17. Personally think it’ll be a master stroke if we get Carroll back. Imagine the partnership he could strike up with Cisse!! Plus even off the bench he’ll be a great sub!

      (Quote)

  18. Hitman
Reckon £12m might persuade them. If the Liverpool board can bare the humiliation then he could come to us, I know I wouldn’t be able to if I was them.

      (Quote)

  19. Carroll would be as low in the pecking order here as he is at Liverpool though surely….and I’d much rather keep Ba here and happy, not to mention Cisse….

Can you ever see Carroll playing on the left or right of a front three? No chance, he’d be an absolute waste. I only want Cisse there, and if Cisse’s injured then Ba. If both are unavaliable then fine, switch him in, but that still leaves two wing positions who would prefer to cut in and shoot-Benny and Marv/Jonas……can’t see much point unless we got him for an absolute pittance.

      (Quote)

  20. Andy when Mike bought the club he rushed in because he thought he was getting us for a bargain that was his fault I think you’ll find Freddie wasn’t here when we got relegated.
As for us causeing Jabba to make mistakes because he was trying to please us if your a big enough mug to blame yourself thats your choice but I won’t be taking the blame.
As for the players ego’s ??? what bother did he get from players ? As for Managers there was one in place and Jabba got shot before having a replacement signed up because he thought he had Redknap, then when that fell through he went and got KK because he thought that would make us easier to sell the club. But then he fuked that up etc etc etc etc

      (Quote)

  21. Well it would be a step backwards for us if the Judas came back unless Pardew was to use him as a impact sub , but it would be a massive step up for him ,from a mid table team to a team challenging for CL places and playing in a modern stadium filled with 52 ,000 fans . 👿

      (Quote)

  22. Andy, Agree Freddie caused our money probs but to be fair MA should of carried out due dilligance and got decent football people in to advise him. The merry go round of managers just muddied the waters even more and when you look at it all in the cold light of day relegation was inevitable really .As you say actually turned out to be a good thing as we lost the riff raff who didn’t really give a toss and kept the workers who did.

      (Quote)

  23. @hitman, not too sure about that, do you remember in Jan when they said Hazard was in Newcastle for talks based on someone starting a rumour on twitter 😆

      (Quote)

  24. If we get Carroll back we’re going to have to drop Ba and Cisse for the games against the mackems

      (Quote)

  25. Carroll in a 4-4-2 would probably be decent again….but that means Cisse or Ba wouldn’t be playing so we’d only switch if there was an injury….and that brings up the problem of the wasting of wingers- Benny is magical in 4-3-3 but 4-4-2? Then we get the Cabaye problem where he sits back too much…and him and Tiote then get outnumbered in the centre….Not convinced myself 😕

      (Quote)

  26. @Dave “freddy wasn’t here when we got relegated” haha you aren’t seriously denying that t!t his share of the relegation blame are you? Please, please don’t tell me you prefer Shepherd to Ashley ❗

      (Quote)

  27. Newkie
Cissé is usually knackered by the 70th minute (cramps up nearly every match), so Carroll could make an excellent impact-sub, and he’d be needed with the many Euro games being played throughout the season.

      (Quote)

  28. ST it just boils my **** when someone thinks they know what I want and then have the cheek to tell me what it is that I want .
The club needs to start getting sponsors to pay for advertisment to help pay running costs and other stuff As far as I know the gate money Prem money Sky money etc all goes to pay all that.
Players sells should go back into players or maybe thats just a fuking simpletons opinion 👿

      (Quote)

  29. Newkie – So are you saying we should forget having any back up strikers because Ba and Cisse are too good?

      (Quote)

  30. I may be being too positive, but a carroll loan doesnt require a transfer fee so hopefully that wouldnt extract from the transfer kitty, imagine debuchy, douglas, anita and carroll , that my friends is Ideal ! I just hope carroll is behind cisse and ba as he should be

      (Quote)

  31. Gotta say i will be happy if we get them but agree with everyones comments about fitting everybody in the same team. If Carroll come we cant play him, Cisse and Ba so some one will likely spit there dummy,

I think Liverpool would be mad to though unless they have to sell to raise funds for their own targets ala us.

Hoilett and Anita would make more sense imo. **** it we need all the players we can get!

      (Quote)

  32. Personally AC for AC Milan. Why are we still pitching about money? Wasn’t that last year’s record ?

      (Quote)

  33. The people who don’t him back fine thats your opinion but why. Is it because he left us? If he does return we are signing an international centre forward. A centre forward for the eighth best team in the world. If he is not good enough then I don’t know who would please the neggies in this case

      (Quote)

  34. ST @ 112 I know FFS has to take some blame but it seems to me that some people will try to put blame on FFS rather than Jabba. FFS wasn’t the best in the world but he is not the man behind all Jabba’s **** ups or maybe it was FFS that made Jabba lie to everyone fans, Managers, Judges etc plus he got him to sack the managers.

Andy @ 97 I would love to know how you work it out that it was FFS fault that we got relegated ??

      (Quote)

  35. How can it be a waste of money on a loan guys, especially when fringe players have made room on the wage bill, hed only be bacl up, if we want a 4 3 3 we have benny, marv, jonas, obertan, or wecould play a midfield three with benny roaming behind the front two , which is class as he roams from the wing anyway

      (Quote)

  36. Prem @ 122 sorry I didn’t realise that we weren’t supposed to talk about money again because we done that last yr 😯
Maybe we are talking about it because it came up in a conversation 😕

      (Quote)

  37. Yeah Dave I’m one of them. Ashley should have done his checks before buying but Shepherd was the person that accumulated and hid all the debt. Paying a mediocre team champions league wages. We were poisoned and on a horribly dark path under FFS. Like it or not, lucky or otherwise, Ashley has been our beautiful fat knight in shining armour. Best time to be a toon fan in years. Our players are linked with Barca!!

      (Quote)

  38. Dave
Freddy started the idea of us paying ridiculous fees and wages for average players, that affected the club in a big way.

      (Quote)

  39. ST do you really think that FFS took all the decisions on players and wages ? did he have out right control or did he have to get backing from Hall and the board ? the way people talk he never got anything right 😯
” Shepherd was the person that accumulated and hid all the debt.” and it was Jabba that jumped in with out checking then passes the debt + more for his mistake back onto the club and for that we should be grateful ?
Do you know how much debt we were in when Jabba took over ❓

      (Quote)

  40. Andy average players ?? what like Shearer Lee, Ginola, Albert, Ferdinand, Speed Solano etc etc
So he started the idea so thats why we got relegated 😯 ❓ ❓

  41. judas still dived to get krul sent off the dirty git 👿 unless you believe dave **** 😆

      (Quote)

  42. Andy 115-Aye he does, but I’m hoping that’s more just adjusting pains-given that he’s played so many games with little bedding in time hopefully it will be ironed out by the time of this season, not that we should rule out impact subs-my point is liverpool have tried to use him as one for over a year and he’s been, well, a spectacular failure really….

    What do you guys think?

      (Quote)

  44. Stuart 119-Nothing of the sort. But I want back up strikers who will be able to fit in and offer us something more to the style that we’re becoming accustomed with. Like a striker who could play along the front three….Carroll can’t….

Would I encourage the club to spend some 15+mil on a backup player? Well not when we still have first team requirements….

  45. Ice 😆 😆 she was over the moon that I worked so hard to seal the floors 😉

ST @ 129 > ” Yeah Dave I’m one of them.” ? what the simpletons that put all the blame for relegation on FFS and give Jabba a bye ball 😀

TLR @ 124 I would pay for his Taxi back 😉

      (Quote)

  46. Kim – Andy Carroll on loan would be a canny shock in the bag like! 😯

We never have a straight forward transfer window do we?!
It’s gonna be a long and crazy window I think!

      (Quote)

  47. Andy-Cisse is by far our best finisher, I’d never have him sat behind those two. He’s a top class poacher, his overall speed and passing really are not his strengths so I’d never have him sat there, and with no width Carroll would again be wasted-service from the centre? Not likely 😕

      (Quote)

  48. Dave
Granted he had some good signings early on, later on is when it got ugly. If your gunna only mark Ashley out for his poor directing just before relegation then you can’t just look at Freddie’s “top class” signings 12-13 years prior to relegation, you have to look at his reign as a whole. Freddy left us in a bad position Ashley is making sure that doesn’t happen again.

      (Quote)

  49. Andy you said that FFS was to blame for relegation how ???
As for players you said ” Dave
Freddy started the idea of us paying ridiculous fees and wages for average players, that affected the club in a big way.”
im just stating that I don’t think they were all average ❓ I know he signed some duffs but you might find that that was due to backing his managers

      (Quote)

  50. Andy Carroll back to the toon. Laugh, I nearly got the beers in … 😆 😆 I think wor lot can talk the big daft lad into coming back without breaking the bank … 😈

Well done Axel mate, the oracle on all things cloggy…you know your stuff… Bet you didn’t know Luk De Jong had a medical at Borussia Mönchengladbach yesterday though 😉 😉

      (Quote)

  51. Lee Ryder saying circa £13m to buy next summer.

Agree with Newkie that the biggest concern is the style of play. As we’ve seen in the last two years, Carroll needs the team set up around him. He improved in the last few months at liverpool when they copped onto that but can we do that now?

Between that and parts assuring Ba he’d play through the centre would it mean playing 442 90% of the time? Our flexibility to change last season was huge for us, and i wonder if we could still do that and keep everyone happy

I want to get him because i trust pards has a plan to use him and he knows his game but i have reservations.

Andy – narrowest formation ever and two attacking full backs?
