Ashley out? Ashley in?

Doing a deal with Ashley?
A rather amusing bit of news broke yesterday (once again after I’d started work!) regarding a potential takeover of Newcastle United.

The Kuwait Times published a rather interesting titbit suggesting that Jamal Al-Kazemi is considering making a rather audacious move to buy Newcastle United. Let’s see what was said.

“He has finalized all conditions that enable him to acquire the club by next week. The actual negotiations with Newcastle owner Mike Ashley will be clear,” said a BBQ source. The next bit is the most interesting however: “Incidentally, Ashley has wanted to sell the club since 2009. He bought the club known as “Magpies” in 2007 for £134.4 million and it is said that he is willing to sell it for less than £80 million.”

£80 million? Righto… No word of the debt either, which I presume would need paying back.

I know most of you well enough to know that you won’t take this seriously, and rightly so. This story has more holes in it than the sieve from my kitchen but all the same I thought I would present it for you all to chatter about.

I haven’t a clue who this Kuwaiti guy is either. I mean don’t get me wrong, I’m not exactly up to speed with Kuwaiti high society, but there isn’t a lot about him and certainly isn’t enough about him that I can find to suggest he may be able to bankroll us in a way that Manchester City have been. Not all Arab’s are filthy rich you know…

So there you go, a little bit of light entertainment for your Wednesday morning. Daydream away, but don’t let reality bite you too hard! Is the club for sale? In my view it always will be, just like any other business so long as the cash is right. Will it be sold to these Kuwaiti guys?

I’ll ride down Barrack Rd naked on a Camel if it is!

  2. To be fair to Ashley, he seems to have listened to the reality crew and changed his way of thinking to ours.

He’s allowed on the train but any sign of his old ways then he’s off at the next station with the dream crew. 😛

  3. According to the Chronicle an hour ago ,Lee Ryder reports that sources at N.U.F.C have dismissed talk of a takeover from Jamal Al-Kazemi . No offer or communication have been made.
I found the article last night a little confusing as £80m can’t be right ,what about the £140 odd M loan ! .Also it talked about the takeover of Notts Forest like it was the same person involved ,unless the translation is poor ,that makes no sense to me. 😕

  4. Im loving the fact Faussie is still seething and looking on the other thread. Woo hoo hoo hoo 😆

  5. i am more concerned about barca now looking at cabaye? it would appear that all our players are leaving but we are getting no-one in at all.. lets hope thats a load of ****.
As for ashley selling, i can imagien that is accurate at the price stated, as long as buyers pay off the clubs record debt of 145 million also. I could see him flogging us for 220-230 million all in, yep for sure.. why not?

  6. Im nearly sure this is not the first time we have been linked with a Kuwaiti business man buying us. Sounds like a re hash of a story back in the Championship days

  7. Would love it to be true (even it is probably isn’t).
Sick of buying free transfers, players out of contract, badly injured stars with something to prove and kids with potential.
That is the road to nowhere.
Paying good money for Cisse proved its worth with the goals return he gave.
Speculate to accumulate. Our gambling mad owner should realise that.
We’re not here to balance the books – we’re here to win something – sadly it’ll never happen with our current policy of offering clubs half the value of what they’re asking.
Yes we haven’t got to be stupid in transfer dealing but there’s nothing wrong in being realistic, genuine, honest and sensible.

  8. i couldnt give a toss if he sells or goes either, even now, i always have a feeling that we are never far away from a drama unfolding.

  9. Interesting one cant see it ashley seems set up for a while now….

In relation to transfers does anyone think the same?
Anita is only if tiote goes?
De jong only if Ba goes?

And that debuchy/rosales and douglas could be the two to come in?
    And thats it?

I still think there is a kitty for another ‘special’ player like a guidetti or a such like player.

I have given up on de jong thought was a done deal long time ago 😥

The other player my journo pal mentioned was erikssen of ajax but that is what you would call a long shot!

  10. The links with Cabaye and Barca are bollox (like the Kuwaiti story) imo. It was a local reporter naming about 5 players as possible replacements for Keita, based on nowt other than his personal opinion.

    Some points true, some not.

It’s good that some of the players we’ve bought out of contract, injury prone or fallen out with their club, as theyve proved to be tremendous buys.
I agree that quality needs to be boughtat a price as well which they’ve done with Cisse.

What infuriated me a while back was Lambias telling the fans that trophy signings of £10m+ were not going to happen at our club.

It’s good to see that it needed to be done and I guess that’s down to Pardew influencing them.

      (Quote)

  12. Troy @13 I think the club need to keep doing what they are doing, making a valuation of a player and sticking with it. I think money will be spent if they find a player they believe is worth it. They wont spend for the sake of it. We have been very shrewd in the transfer market and long may that continue. We do need 4 or 5 players to come in as with the extra games , travel and cutting down on how long we have to prepare for games the Europa league is a tough competition.

      (Quote)

  13. @johno

Totally agree. I just hope they continue to buy the odd quality player that is valued at the right price even if it means spending £10m+.

As for taken4mugs, I can’t see how he can complain about the cheap buys who were bought out of contract etc. they’ve proven a lot of us wrong.

      (Quote)

  14. Leave Ashley at the helm, but with a very rich Arab along side, to pay the million pound difference that Ashley refuses to pay, to make the transfers happen!

      (Quote)

  15. @taken4amug

Are you for real MA has signed Collo, Cabaye, Tiote, Demba Ba, Santon Spiderman and Ben Arfa we finished 5th.

As for your casino policy of here to win trophies talk to Rangers, Portsmouth or Leeds fans.

Fat Freddy won us nothing and his stellar signings of Owen , Femi Martins etc did not give a **** about the Toon.

No wonder most other fans think Geordies are delusional

      (Quote)

  16. Gary – If you’d taken care to read what I said. it says” we haven’t got to be stupid in transfer dealings but there’s nothing wrong in being realistic, genuine, honest and sensible”.
    No one mentioned stellar signings.
Oh and I should point out that Colo cost us around £10 million.
Why should spending realistic (not insulting) sums to get players we REALLY want have to make us disappear like Portsmouth, Rangers and Leeds?
    Think you’re over-reacting mate
As for being deluded – as I’ve supported this club since 1958 I think that’s a bit rich – don’t you?

    I agree that Gary got the wrong end of the stick but what about this statement;

Sick of buying free transfers, players out of contract, badly injured stars with something to prove and kids with potential.

Have they not done well in that area?
    Please explain?

      (Quote)

  19. The main problem we have now is that how are we going to fund any purchases that we may want or need? How have they always been done b4? We sell to offset the cost.. every time. so i think that this being the case, we will flog off at least one 20 million player to fund any dealings Pards may want. We have 5 million from best and fraser already so we may well get a player in for that price as it stands. Over that though… someone has to go.

  20. Woo hoo hoo hoo . . . . Little Faussie has been seething all morning trying not to bite! 😛

Woo hoo hoo hoo. Got the boomerang out your mouth then Aussie? 😛

You’ve made a right fool of yourself trying to ignore me and showing you were biting.

    Hook line and Aussie. 😛 😛 😛 😛

      (Quote)

  22. Well I agree with Troy @22 and 26, and agree with Richie @12… Cabaye just isn’t good enough for Barca. Fabregas struggles to start for them 😯

As for the article… NO WAY… Ashley has done superbly.

I’d like to see us get in a quality full back, a strong quality centre back and a nippy skillful forward player with potential… Honestly don’t think we need more unless someone big leaves.

We get those I’ll be kissing Ashley’s **** till January. If Batty will let anyone else have a turn that is…

  23. Troy @ 22
Injured players bought – Gosling – jury still out. Not convinced of his quality.
Ba – great start – bad finish – not sure about his attitude once he thought he’d made it and is he about to go now?
Ben Arfa – some good cameos but still think he could eventually cause problems (see French team). Only just made the team in the latter part of the season. Great skill but sometimes doesn’t work hard enough (although he was improving at the end).
Marveaux – admittedly promising but again had nearly a season out. A gamble?
Colo, Spiderman and Cisse – bought at sensible market prices – great value – does that say something?
Cabaye and Tiote – excellent signings at a ‘steal’ price. These came off but can we do it again? Offering 50% of players’ actual value means we probably can’t as selling clubs are starting to realise. Shame, it was good while it lasted.

  24. Don’t be upset Troy… I’m sorry that you went out and embarrassed yourself because you made an incorrect assumption.. Are we still friends ? 🙂 🙂

      (Quote)

  25. @taken4mugs

I think you miss the point tho.
The players such as Gosling, Ba and Marveuax cost us little and can be sold without a loss.
They’ve contributed to a great season and to be fair to Ba, he’s been playing out of position in the second half of the season.

I think you are wrong and being too critical of a very good transfer period over the last couple of seasons.

  26. Woo hoo hoo hoo.

He’s now lying on his back wanting his tummy tickled. 🙂 🙂

I have not looked at the last thread but no doubt you came out your huff when I left.
I want no part of the nighty night club or the wide awake club. 🙂 🙂
X boxes, Pat on the back banter, what you having for tea and breakfast craic makes my toes curl. 🙂 🙂

  28. It all depends on which side Mike Ashley gets out of bed? If he’s pulling our pants down! Or if he’s running the club as it should be! I like the way we bring in cheap imports-like Papiss Cissé, and Demba Ba to name but a few. But I worry-they are going out the door. With the money going straight into in Mike’s back pocket. OK, you could say that reduces the cash deficit ( I get that) but at the same time-its Mike’s money-not ours. His losses he’s reducing! It’s great that he’s loaned himself the money-and he’s only got himself to pay back-but then that’s with our club (isn’t it). I only hope if he goes he takes his trashy “Sportsdirect” logos-directly up his… But if he stays-he brings in some more HBA’s without selling them on. And once again: we become a proud football club! And if Geordie63 should drop by-that’s how I feel.

  30. Kim….If it was De Jong then Liam was putting red herrings in as he defo said it was a player we hadn’t been linked with before….LDJ had been 😉

      (Quote)

  34. @Rich

I could see Cabaye fitting into Barcas team.
    It would suit him perfectly.
He loves his little passes and with good players doing the same he would look good.

    He’s ideal for them.

      (Quote)

  35. Ah ha, just read back… no post numbers on this bloody tablet I’m using 🙂
You don’t mind a rumour if it has some semblence of truth to it, but this article’s topic and the Cabaye to barca story take the cake..

      (Quote)

  36. @aussie

They take a certain type of player and Cabaye fits the bill.
    No doubt about it.

His style is lost in our team. He would be class at Barca.

      (Quote)

  37. I agree in part mate, but I reckon Cabaye has the right amount of mongrel in him to be a sucess in the PL.. He will only be better for a years experience he has under his belt..

      (Quote)

  38. @aussie

He may well do. But so far he has been over hyped by many.
He’s had a couple of outstanding games, a few good games but the majority pretty ordinary.

He has looked a far better player when allowed to push up the field.

I think you were one of those that over hyped him. 😉

  39. Stu

I think they are playing at the arena shortly but I also think you are on the wrong blog.
    This is football man! 😯

      (Quote)

  40. a) The story is clearly a load of naddicles
    b) Why the hell would we want to trade a known, English owner who’s proven just how well he can do things (after many, many false starts, admittedly) for some unknown arab, just when the financial rules make all that dosh largely irrelevant?

Ashley in. I’ll even buy him a pint.

      (Quote)

  41. NA mate not me… the problem is that a lot of games we only play with two midfielders.. Cabaye and Tiote work their arses off and at times they can be let down by the wide men.. Jonas gets caught out covering his back man and Oba/Arfa can be patchy.. So Cabaye can be seen to be to be having a quiet game but is a result of running his **** off chasing down opposition mids..

      (Quote)

  42. right how many have we signed today then, aussie and richie will kna nowt, will have to wait till batty comes on maybe 😮
