Ashley out? Ashley in?

Doing a deal with Ashley?
A rather amusing bit of news broke yesterday (once again after I’d started work!) regarding a potential takeover of Newcastle United.

The Kuwait Times published a rather interesting titbit suggesting that Jamal Al-Kazemi is considering making a rather audacious move to buy Newcastle United. Let’s see what was said.

“He has finalized all conditions that enable him to acquire the club by next week. The actual negotiations with Newcastle owner Mike Ashley will be clear,” said a BBQ source. The next bit is the most interesting however: “Incidentally, Ashley has wanted to sell the club since 2009. He bought the club known as “Magpies” in 2007 for £134.4 million and it is said that he is willing to sell it for less than £80 million.”

£80 million? Righto… No word of the debt either, which I presume would need paying back.

I know most of you well enough to know that you won’t take this seriously, and rightly so. This story has more holes in it than the sieve from my kitchen but all the same I thought I would present it for you all to chatter about.

I haven’t a clue who this Kuwaiti guy is either. I mean don’t get me wrong, I’m not exactly up to speed with Kuwaiti high society, but there isn’t a lot about him and certainly isn’t enough about him that I can find to suggest he may be able to bankroll us in a way that Manchester City have been. Not all Arab’s are filthy rich you know…

So there you go, a little bit of light entertainment for your Wednesday morning. Daydream away, but don’t let reality bite you too hard! Is the club for sale? In my view it always will be, just like any other business so long as the cash is right. Will it be sold to these Kuwaiti guys?

I’ll ride down Barrack Rd naked on a Camel if it is!

  1. Ice@66, Me mum always told me don’t trust anyone down under ,least I think she meant Australians. 😉

  2. Better the devil you know, unless we learn that another devil has pots more cash and can compete with City and Chelsea. The fair play rules will be circumvented.

As for Carroll, I would rather have him back permanently. He’s the best English prospect for a long time. He’s never had a fair crack at LIverpool. If it meant swapping him for Ba, I’d do it.

  3. Carroll ain’t coming back Andy… the press have put 2 & 2 together and got 5.. Just like Richie at high school 🙂 🙂

  4. AMF i can get you one of those stab-vests i got off batty, you need them on here at times 😉

think carrol would love to come home, but jabba wont go there imo,and theres a saying you should never return to a club you left 😐

I don’t think so aswell, hence the wee eye-rolling smilie in brackets. But should it some how come about (I’ll be laughing my head off) then I would hope that it wouldn’t cause disruption within the team. Mind you it’d be a lesson to the likes of Ba, Cabaye and Tiote of what could happen if you leave, that the grass aint always greener(specially in north-west england 😆 ).

  6. @B&B

Some on here including Aussie dont rate Carrolls all round game.
I believe he has a better all round game than Ba.
    Thoughts?

  7. Ice, I think Carroll would play with more heart for us but you are right, fatty won’t sanction it.. There is a little grace if you return to your home town club though..
Get Batty to put aside a L vest mate 🙂

  9. Off topic, theres rumours on twatter that debuchy has signed a new contract with lille, any substance in this? 😕

I thought he wanted to leave.

Troy… please explain Carrolls all round game? .. serious question mate…

Nah I reckon Ba is good at most things, the free-kick v WBA(I think) shows that. The only type of goal Ba didn’t score was a screamer from 30yards+. Caroll is good but relies on a specific type of playing style to play well, so I’d say Ba is the better player, however Caroll is much younger than Demba so he could be better so I’d rather have Caroll now, even though Andy is even more injury-prone than Ba was supposed to be.

  12. He has a far better first touch, able to hold the ball up, cross the ball and links up with his team mates. All better than Ba.

Now you tell me why you think Ba is better.

      (Quote)

  13. Please… being younger than another player doesn’t make you a better player… there is no way to tell how a player will or won’t develop… its a mute in the Carroll BA argument..

  14. We’re a big club and expected to do big things.

“Although financially we are probably eighth or ninth in the Premier League.”

Eighth or ninth??? Who is he trying to bullshit?! Man City, Man Utd, Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool & Spurs. Who are the others financially bigger than us?

Stop talking bollocks Alain as they come across as pre meditated excuses!

      (Quote)

  15. BA has a better finish and is not a 1 trick pony in front of goal.. I dispute the better first touch call, Carroll has terrible control.. BA is also more versitile on the park and gets into better scoring positions .. Carroll is incapable of scoring half the goals BA scored last season.. He simply isn’t good enough..

  16. Got to love Aussie for his uneducated football views.

    Absolutely clooooless 😛

  17. I would actually want carroll to go my favourite club on loan, but that is in italy,AC milan. 😳 😆

  18. on the Ba/Judas debate i would say it depends on the style of footy you play they are diff players, age has nowt to do with it neither are old players but your team needs to be able to change there style when needs must, but your not going to get Ba or judas to sit on the bench for any length of time,so pointless debate really

      (Quote)

  19. I can’t believe people would want Carroll back , the fecker ran out on us after getting the number 9 shirt without even proving himself over a prolonged period at premiership level . Yes when fit and in form he is a massive , fearsome and virtually unplayable centre forward , trouble is we would become a predictable team too play against , it would be a step back too long ball football . I for one would rather watch the style of football that brought us to 5th place last season .

      (Quote)

  20. Its not a pointless debate Ice.

It’s showing Aussie up by demonstrating his lack of footy nouse. 😛

  21. Anyone one on here coming over for the Ado Den Haag game ? would be great too meet up for a pint or 2 , best thing is the stadium is 10 minutes down the road from my house . I’ll probably end up sitting in the home section with my black and white on 😀

      (Quote)

  22. Axel
Can you do that? S’pose its a friendly game but would still have thought they wouldnt have liked you to do it. When are we playing them 😕 ❓

      (Quote)

  23. Agree they are very different but I don’t think Carroll is only suited to hoofball , he actually thrives on good crosses into the box ,so it would be a good idea having him back if we had decent wingers to supply him. He is also excellent at defending set play and sets fear into opo defences when in the box . I do love our passing game but I do believe there are times when you need to adapt a different style to suit a particular sides style ,horses for courses and all that. Ba is capable of some marvalous goals and free kicks that AC is not and WHEN IN FORM unplayable imo. It’s true to say Carroll is a bit of a throwback as a forward but he’s still young enough to improve his game and if he did would be quite something.

  28. Ice @111 ,Expects one body through the door! bloody hell ,is that it . We need Defenders first team quality and a covering striker and a GOOD, not Elliott stand in for Krul imo . He also talks about the kids stepping up ,that’s fine but a bit harsh on them when they will be chucked in the deep end. We’ve lost ,Smith ,Loven ,Guthrie ,forster and Best with only MF cover coming in to date ,When will they address the defensive situation, no ,no one body won’t cut it at all. 👿 👿 😡

  29. With Pardew saying a signing only within the next fortnight, its looking more and more likely that we have Douglas wrapped up…

    Debuchy maybe as well.

I just don’t see us being in the market for a striker at all.

      (Quote)

  30. KIM we all know the club holds their cards close to their chests about signings these days , Pardew is basicly giving nothing away . I honestly believe moves are being made big time behind the scenes , i think Debuchy will be signed before the transfer window closes along with another 2 or 3 for the first team .

  31. I don’t really mind if some of our depth is going to come form the youth as I rate several of them. But unless I’ve been sleeping under a rock (entirely possible as I have a headache) I don’t see any youth players at CB or Striker ready to step up.

floydy @ 91. Best to ignore twitter for the rest of summer, if not forever mate

  32. Get Carroll back for 10mil. He’d be a good buy, he’s young and could maybe have a resale value in the region of £35mil (just a figure I plucked from the air). If he has a good start to the season, say 10/11 goals, we could be looking at fighting off interest from ‘big’ clubs come January. Could be good business?

      (Quote)

  33. Good to see Pardew personally coming out to say the Cabaye to Barca rumours are bollocks and that the supposed fee is miles off what Newcastle would be willing to let him leave for.

      (Quote)

  34. Anyone else watch soccer am today? Was the one back in September 2011 with S.Taylor, showed footage of him at the start of the programme, man he’s good, and the amount of goals he scores for a defender is ridiculous. If he could stay fit for a season then he could easily be Pardew’s 8 goals a season CB.

      (Quote)

  35. Ice@133 Yes ice ,well done Robert you just stopped an almighty black mood decending 😆

      (Quote)

  36. Thanks for tha Robert

Kimtoon, sounds like we want to get three in, but will only get two because the De Jong deal didn’t happen.

Douglas won’t happen till August, so we are probably waiting for Lillie to sign Debuchy’s replacement.

It looks like Debuchy in, Douglas next, and maybe a striker if one becomes available for a good price. But he must have great potential.

Simpson the only out unless a huge offer comes in…

    Sounds positive to me.

  37. Axel – At £35 million NUFC were getting Carroll his hat and coat and pushing him out the door.

You haven’t answered my post about Ba v Carroll and his all round game.

      (Quote)

  39. Carroll has unfortunately gone backwards because of his lack.of playing time at Liverpool.

Carroll has superior workrate and heading ability.

Ba is a superior finisher, better at holding the ball up, better at linking play, better at creating chances out of nothing in tight games. He is also effectivefrom direct freekicks.

      (Quote)

  40. Agree with Troy @2.

Ashley seems to be steering our club in the right direction. A fair level of success with financial stability. Can’t say I’m chuffed with the stadium situation but I’d never expect 100% perfection.
I think it’s better the devil you know for us, and while he’s getting the majority of things right I’m happy with him.

      (Quote)

  41. @JJ

WHAT?! Ba is a superior finisher, better at holding the ball up, better at linking play, better at creating chances out of nothing in tight games. He is also effectivefrom direct freekicks.

You been smoking Rodz blaw? 😯

      (Quote)

  42. JJ@137, I like the sound of that one, they reckon Lille have got Boswinga from Chelsea lined up as Debuchy’s replacement…

Cheeky barstewards on Yohan Cabaye’s Wikipedia site …… 👿 👿 👿 “On Wed July 11th 2012, Barcelona confirmed that they had agreed a fee with Newcastle United regarding the sale of Yohan Cabaye.”….

      (Quote)

  43. JJ@143… I agree with you there.
Carroll has gone back in my opinion, and apart from the fantastic header against Sweden looked really poor in the euros

      (Quote)

  44. Judas is better defensively and in a formation that provides crosses. But who will be doing this at Newcastle?

      (Quote)

  45. Andy Carroll is a one trick pony…. Ba is by far a better finisher, just look at the assortment of fantstic and varied goals which he scored last season, fast feet, beautiful strikes, headers, left foot, right foot, what an assortment… he’s way ahead of Carroll at this present stage of Carroll’s development… 😉
