Debuchy edges closer to Lille exit

Will Debuchy be teaming up with his mate again?
The long running saga that has become the Mathieu Debuchy transfer fiasco looks like it may finally be coming to an end.

Last week Debuchy spoke to the press and revealed that he was less than impressed with not being allowed to leave Lille after 20 years of faultless service.

This led to coach Rudi Garcia finally admitting defeat in his bid to keep Debuchy at the club although he remained adamant that the France international wouldn’t be going anywhere until a suitable replacement had been found, again much to the annoyance of Debuchy as he felt the club were deliberately dragging their heels over finding a new right-back.

However it seems as thought things have changed on that front and Lille have now signed 20-year-old Djibril Sidibe from Troyes as a replacement for the now certain to be departing Debuchy. To give another indication of things progressing with Debuchy, he also failed to turn up for his first day of pre-season training after being given an extended break after Euro 2012.

I’m actually pretty confident of this transfer happening. From his best mate Yohan Cabaye telling him to come and join him at Newcastle, to Debuchy even saying that joining us was one of his priorities and that Lille shouldn’t be looking for big money for him, and even Alan Pardew saying ages ago that we were looking to sign one of Cabaye’s closest friends, it just all seems to be adding up.

Of course a fee is yet to be agreed between the two clubs, that we know of, and I’m not one to knickertwist or bemoan our offers and describe them as “lowballing” like some do, but I firmly believe that things are further on than is being made out with this deal.

  4. So, Sky actually reported that the 2 clubs need to agree a fee(shock, horror) and that Lille signing a new full back might push the deal on(as reported by most other media outlets yesterday)….nothing to see here, move along :mrgreen:

  7. Yep, two defenders and I will be happy (as long as we lose no one else). I do recall that Debuchy does have a 8m buy out clause in his contract.. but I will be happy when it is all said and done.. then it will be fine until January 🙂 🙂

  9. I think the sell on clause issue is actually our sell on not Lilles. What I mean is ,MA doesn’t want to pay£8m as after Debuchy has been with us for 4 years his sell on value wouldn’t be enough to justify an £8m initial outlay now. That is my understanding of it ,it doesn’t fit the buy low sell high thing we got going on .

  23. Is it £8m being talked about or €8m? Cus if it’s the latter that’s just over £6m which really is a bargain do someone of Debuchy’s level, I mean it’s just over 500k more than what we spent on Santon(still a great deal for us).

    Suppose it depends on the system that pards wants to play, he’ll have told Carr exactly what type of players he wants for his positions. It could be that Debuchy is coming in to bomb down the right hand channel(on the pitch not the sea 😕 ) whilst tiote steps over to the right to guard the exposed section.

  33. Andy…maybe, but a defender has to be able to defend no matter what the system is, but like I said I haven’t seen enough of him to be able to judge that properly…..not that my opinion means **** all anyway 😆

    He could have been asked to push foward as often as he could during the euros. It may not nessesarily be his natural game, but like you say, he will be a sweet pick up if it comes off..

  52. From what I’ve heard Is that his clause doesn’t become void Aug 1st it just increases to 15m, whether he still gets half of that fee I don’t know. It could be that most clubs aren’t aware that the clause changes and are just waiting till August to put their bid in.

  68. Andy…no one knows what the Sunderland one is worth yet, even them. They said it would show in the next accounts, I think it has alot of variables and depends on how many companies join the Invest in Africa initiative, could be lucrative for them though “if” alot of companies take part.

  70. Seeing reports on Twitter that Lille signed Sidibe…wonder if that might finally make the Debuchy deal happen?
