Remy completes Newcastle switch

Remy finally signs on
Remy finally signs on
Newcastle United have completed the signing of Loic Remy from QPR on a season long loan deal.

The French striker arrives at St James’ Park some six months later than originally planned after he opted to join QPR over us in January which is a cause for some concern amongst some of our fans who feel as though we’re second choice.

Personally, if he delivers the goods for us then I don’t really care about what happened in January. The 26-year-old has a lot to prove ahead of the World Cup next summer and plans to break back into the French squad. To do that he must perform for Newcastle first and foremost and if he does than we can sign him up permanently next summer.

Remy scored six goals in 14 appearances for relegated QPR last term which is not too bad considering the situation they were in combined with the fact that the Premier League was new to him. With six months of experience behind him perhaps he could manage an ever better return?

Speaking to the club website Remy admitted that he is delighted to finally be here:

“It will be a huge honour to play for such a big club. I was very flattered by the Club’s interest in me back in January and also very happy that they showed interest in me again this summer,” said Remy.

“The Premier League is the best league in the world and that’s where I want to play. I am very motivated this year to get into the World Cup squad for my country. I know in order to do that I need to have a big season and a successful campaign with Newcastle United.”

He added: “I am focussed on helping the team achieve success this season and scoring as many goals as I can.”

United’s director of football, Joe Kinnear, said: “The need for us to strengthen up front was a priority and I have been working very hard to secure one of our targets in this position.

“I’m delighted to have secured Loic for the season. Now we have him I’m sure he’ll be a huge success for us; I know he’s hungry for goals and is absolutely committed to helping us achieve success this season.”

While Alan Pardew added: “Loic is a great player and I’m delighted that Joe has got him on board for us. He’ll be a great addition to the squad, he gives us strength and pace up front and I’m sure he’ll bring plenty of goals.”

“It’s a big season for Loic, like it is for all our international players ahead of the World Cup, which will only provide extra incentive for him to play at the very top of his game.”

I’ve seen a few people mention that this is “just a loan deal” but to be fair it’s worth pointing out that Hatem Ben Arfa was just a loan signing before he was signed on a permanent basis so it’s not all bad on that front.

Welcome to Newcastle, Loic.

  1. Is there a stranger manager out there than our Alan ice? He just can’t keep his gob shut or say something halfway intelligent. As for agents, they’re right down there in the slime with bankers as far as I can tell mate.

  2. As always you make a very good argument Premand. What are your thoughts if we have a bad start and Pardew gets the sack? That is where things might get very sticky. I would think Joe would step in temporarily and then it’s anybody’s guess. Why can’t Ashley see we need a top class manager when the team is made up high quality continental players for the most part? In the grand scheme of things a wage of 3M -4M pounds a year for a top manager just shouldn’t be that big a deal anymore with the amount of money coming into the Prem.

  3. “Casual workers traditionally supplement an employer’s salaried staff, to be called upon when cover is needed or demand is high. In return for not having the security of knowing when you might work, you have the benefit of being able to choose when you work. Without that choice you are not a casual worker, you are just a worker with no job security.”
The above seems to be the crux of the matter for zero hour contract employees to me. I’m not surprised Ashley is taking advantage of workers as much as he possibly can. It’s happening all over the world. The top 1% in terms of wealth have made all the gains over the last 20 years at least. The middle class is shrinking everywhere thanks to people like Mike Ashley. Ultimately there will be a price to pay Mikey and you might not like it.

  4. Yes it is definitely possible we could have a poor start and it is even remotely possible that we will sack Pards. Doubt it though.

The crux of the matter is who would you replace him with. Troy suggests JPK would in like a ferret down a rabbit hole, but I doubt that would last long on health grounds alone.

As to high quality managers who would come here there are surprisingly few managers better out there. Bielsa is currently out of work but that’s all I can think of.

Lots of one season wonders with little or no premiership experience and less European.

Personally ideally id love Bielsa but would rather have Pardew than the likes of Poyet or Di Matteo. by the way JFK had a far better record with Wimbledon in the top flight than Martinez did with Wigan despite the greater resources available to our medias present god.

  5. Just to clear my position up a bit Premand I think 8th would be a decent finish if we play some attractive attacking football along the way. But I don’t want to see us lead the league in hoofball again and I don’t want us sitting back, unable to get out of our half for long periods of time. If our Alan can’t manage to get us playing better than that he should go. His tactics seem very unsophisticated to me and so far I don’t see him inspiring any of his players. If anything many of them are playing much more poorly than when they came to us and doubt creeps through a team quickly once it gets a foothold. Let’s hope for the best but prepare for something a fair bit less than that with Pardew at the helm.

  7. Great rebuttal Premand. I enjoy your comments very much. Yes I agree a better manager is problematic and I agree JFK isn’t the answer with his health problems. I still think Curbishley is lurking around though. He’s not what I have in mind for our club but Ashley might be a different matter. He might be able to come in and lift the team for a couple of seasons and allow Ashley to sell. I can’t see any long term future for Ashley with us. It just isn’t going to happen so he needs a couple of decent seasons, a good sale price, and then off he goes (I hope).

      (Quote)

  8. The Poyet idea isn’t a bad one either icedog. He did a decent job for Brighton and given our resources might surprise some people. Still it’s up to Ashley to hire someone to do the homework and find us a solid manager if he wants his money back. Over to you Mikey.

The Caulkin comments are encouraging Kimtoon but I want to see far more and against much better opposition. If we were to get a draw against Man City that would be a huge point. Now I’m starting to hallucinate so I’d better stop. 😆

  15. I hear the grass was always pointed in the wrong direction as well Toby mate @389. No cutting edge with the players we have? Sad is not even close to describing it. As for Jabba and money it’s a scary thought Munich. He is one of many greedy ruthless billionaires out there so we should not be surprised at what he does. The world is full of them. There may come a time when the majority turn against them and then things could get very nasty very quickly. Poverty is something I know a lot about. Injustice with wages is completely unacceptable. Working people deserve a decent wage for a hard day’s work. Don’t get me started. Oh wait I already have. 😳

      (Quote)

  16. You lucky stiff Munich. What a great country to live in for great football. England should be embarrassed with the amount of money coming into the Prem. In many cases I think it’s an ownership problem. Take our owner for example.

  18. Aye icedog. I dislike Ashley for so many reasons. And we’re stuck with him and his pile of money. I know where I’d like to see it go. To the decent working people he’s so busy taking advantage of.

      (Quote)

  19. G2@392, we all know that Pardew has a whole raft of ***** excuses to cover his ****. That’s one thing he chose not to un-learn from last season. 👿 I remember a Rangers european game from a few years ago, when Souness reduced the pitch width to the legal minimum against a team who had great wingers in the side. It worked too cos the opponents wingers were nullified throughout the game. Here in Germany they love to heavily water the pitch to slow down FC Bayerns slick passing game. So Pardew isn’t completely wrong about the length of the grass, it’s just the fact that he can’t see that we have in fact been pish that irritates me.

Regarding your comment about the price of good footy in Germany compared to the UK. I was thinking pretty much the same yesterday mate, when I picked up my ticket. These prices are pretty standard for Germany, even FC Bayern don’t charge a lot more. Think of all the money coming in on match day for the likes of the toon, in fact any of the EPL clubs. The money being thrown around in the EPL is actually OBSENE. There is absolutely NO WAYS that Ashley will sell up. It’s way too easy, money flying into the club. Let’s also not forget that he has players assets of probably 100 million euros at least.

Icedog, I’d love to be in the dug out mate 😉 makes a change from the dog-house 😆 😆

      (Quote)

  20. Terrific discussion on here today mates. I agree totally with you Munich. The prices for watching football in England are ridiculous. What does Norwich charge for its home games? It’s around 40 quid I think. Ridiculous. They’re not exactly Bayern Munich are they? Hugely overpaid, bloated ego football players in the Prem. I’m thinking of players like Rooney who is a very good player but his wage is ridiculous. Many more with the same problem. Look at what Man City has done to the league with its wage structure. Laughable. They’ll win games but the wages are insane.

  21. Just reading that set of comments from Pardew about earning his stripes with us ice mate. He is so full of himself. It’s really incredible. He sounds like Joe without the foul language. Pardew is so impressed with his own ability. Those that can, do. Show us something in the coming season Alan or shut the cakehole.

      (Quote)

  22. @G2

I can’t believe how negative you are towards Pards.

He’s simply saying he’s proud to manage us and is the second longest serving manager in the premier. To be fair to Pards, he’s ultra professional and never criticises the club, the fans or the players.

He’s not the best and I would love a top manager. But whilst Ashley reigns then he’s as good as the rest and the best we’ll get.

For me, you either have a go at Ashley for his lack of ambition for appointing Pards for his football management ability or you let Pards get on with it.

He’s Ashley’s puppet no doubt but ultimately it’s Ashley who MUST take the flak.

      (Quote)

  23. I like your comment @402 Troy. I am hard on both Pardew and Ashley, it’s true. But for me you have to judge what you see. I see a very incompetent owner who has hired a poor manager because it’s easier to do that than let a real manager turn the club into a winner but have to give that manager the right amount of control over the club. Ashley could never allow that because he’s at heart very insecure I think. He needs people who will praise him and do what they’re told. That’s why Keegan is gone and why he never stood a chance with Ashley. But at the same time with Pardew I see someone who has begun to see that the light at the other end of the tunnel is actually a train coming his way. And rightly so. He had his chance last season after his breakthrough season to show what he could do. Well I guess he showed us. I wasn’t impressed.

      (Quote)

  24. @G2

I apologise. I just read your last post about Pards. However looking further back you do acknowledge the lack of ambition by Ashley.

I still don’t get this Pardew hatred. As emphasised, he’s professional, never criticises the players or fans.

Despite what many say, I disagree, he’s trying to serve up a cordon bleu meal with school dinner ingredients.

We have a decent first 11 and if we went all season without injuries I believe we could be up there in the top 7 but beyond that 11 is utter kak, pap and ****, mixed together with Ashley’s shitty stick, hoping we end up mid table.

      (Quote)

  25. No apology needed Troy mate. I understand your point of view. I see all the bizarre comments Pardew has made as weak attempts at excusing last year’s performance. I think you’re right though in that Pardew never goes out of his way to criticize his players or the supporters. He is honest enough to admit that we were very poor last season. My main issue with him is that he has a very fine starting 11 to field and yet can’t seem to get anything out of them more often than not. Again I know we couldn’t field that starting 11 last season very often. However our goal difference last season, even given the injuries was shocking. And Pardew’s terribly slow realization that we had some fairly poor youngsters and some even poorer squad members just isn’t acceptable at the Prem level. Anyway Troy, for now Pards is the boss and he can help determine his own fate. That may not last much longer but that remains to be seen.

      (Quote)

  26. Just one more thought on this Troy. I think I just keep foolishly hoping Ashley will come to his senses and hire the first class manager his team deserves. After 6 years I should have given up on this by now but I haven’t. I hate to see first class talent go to waste and I just can’t give up hoping a miracle will happen and Ashley will see the light.

      (Quote)

  27. You could be right on both counts STEM. I understand what Troy is saying about Pardew. And it makes some sense for Ashley because he thinks of it as a safe way to keep the money rolling in. That’s the shame of it because I see a team that should be competing for a domestic cup and putting out some great performances in the league. Not a team that loses 6-0 at home to Liverpool. I still can’t wipe the taste of that game away, let alone the 3-0 home loss to Sunderland. 👿

  29. G2 Could not agree with you more. I was fuming after the liverpool and sunderland results. Pardew didn’t even train the players last year. They looked like they couldn’t be bothered or give a dame. Thats Pardew’s fault and Ashley’s. I’m a newcastle fan and disappointment is something we are used to.

  30. why wouldnt MA hire a decent manager. he approached sloppychops and brought back Keegan so I cant see why he couldn’t approach another decent manager.

Its whether a decent manager would work for MA and his budget, but im sure a few managers out there wouldnt mind working with our squad

      (Quote)

  31. @Mark

He’s been stung with good managers in the past, that’s one good reason.

It cost him £17m to get rid of Fat Sam and his entourage and £2m and a tribunal hearing for KK.

Good managers come with Ego’s and demands. They want big transfer kitty’s as their reputations are on the line.

Pards was plucked off the dole and rumours suggest he’s in debt to Ashley.

Ashley will never appoint a top manager for those reasons.

      (Quote)

  32. Well, he got rid of Sam because he wanted to show the fans he was listening, much like L’pool did handing KD money for Carroll, downing etc

KK was a mistake for MA, appointing DWise behind his back was a gamble he should never of taken. But he did appoint him and his wages would of been large.

AP being in debt is a total rumor mate, something I don’t buy into, anyway after flirting with relegation and AP buying players that dont fit into his style of football is surely costing MA more money? he’ll be here forever going of the debt rumor 😛

  33. I thought he owed money to Lambias and the casinos he runs not Jabba 😕 that’s if you believe the rumours like. 😉

All we can do is get behind him and the team and hope for the best ,I still think there is a level of arrogance about Pards and that he is apparently unable to often take sole blame for poor tactics and play, finding any old excuse,(the grass is too long ,Europa league ,injuries , weather , players) anything but his poor tactics. Still ,he has a brand new season to ram it down the throats of all us doubters and my oven is on ready to bake some humble pie.

  38. We need some creativity. Quick.

Like Pardew really came out and said Jonas is on top form? Dear me..
If he starts against City, I can’t believe we’re really starting the season with a fully fit Marveaux on the bench.

Look at the mackems, Di Canio is an attacking manager, there creativity with Sessognen, Johnson, Giaccherini, is actually a lot better than what we could offer.

It’s now Pardews fault and noone else if we fail this year, or start poorly.

Is it only me that doesnt want Sissoko as no.10?

    Or Jonas as a winger?

Or Cisse up front on his own, again?

baffling decisions happening all over again.

Why are HBA and Marveux yet to start a match together?

      (Quote)

  39. Big Papa why was it that last season Jonas only missed 4 games and we lost all of them. Why was it that when Marv started we had the poorest return in terms of points from any midfielder. Maybe there is a correlation?

      (Quote)

  40. Prem ,that’s interesting stats that . All the time people were slagging off Jonas , (who it’s true was out of condition ) I can only say what I saw when I went to Reading to watch us and that was a really hard working guy busting a gut for us all over the pitch .Boy he covered some grass that day ,there is no doubting his commitment ,maybe just maybe that is the issue with Marv after all we are not privy to what is seen on the training ground. That said I really like Marv and want to see much more of him this season.

      (Quote)

  41. Big PAPA, I can only think Pards is worried about the defensive workrate of the two when played together. They are both luxury players really so maybe he doesn’t feel we would be tight enough with both playing 😕 Personally I would just tell em to get forward and create havoc, but then I’m **** at trying to be a manager 😆

  42. I see Sunderland are letting that overrated pikey go to wigan, hope they don’t get too much for him! 51. Prem – only got your reply. Thing is with Jonas he is not a winger. He lacks pace, quality and delivery.

I’ve noticed that you do enjoy stats Prem – so how many goals and assists did our wonderful winger contribute with last season? Exactly.
How can a team be successful when their winger doesn’t contribute in an attacking sense whatsoever?

I would play Jonas in a 442. A wide midfielder not a winger.

KIM – I know it may leave us exposed a bit more but we have exactly been successful anyway so why not change things and take a chance? Ben Arfa and Debuchy is too much on one side aswell , we need to put Ben Arfa behind a striker, play 4411.

  53. Jonas gets fouled so much, what about getting him up in to the box somehow?

      (Quote)

  54. Agree Prem. If we play 4231 though Jonas doesnt start, its all down to him getting that new contract and the fact we dont have high earners on the bench so he has to play.

Thing that I struggle to rationalise – why do Tiote and Jonas deserve a place over Anita or Marveaux? Or why MYM is backup to Taylor?

Colocinni has looked absolutely terrible so far.

Anita has been much improved this preseason. Should of been tested against Rangers in our first team.

We all listened to AP when he came out and said he has learnt lessons from last season? I for one can’t see how anything has changed.

He is far too defensive, plays one up top, yet says his teams take the game to the opponent.

What’s our goal diff this preseason?

Still struggling to score. We beat St Mirren 2-0? Best result of preseason probably.

Swansea though beat Molde 4-0, who, the week before beat Hibs 7-0 away.

We looked average against Rangers. Again.

Starting the season with Pardew fills me with dread. The man is a one trick pony, and incidentally is akin to the ex-Scummer James McClean, you can get a way with one season in the big league, but then you will get found out soon enough, just as Pardew has.

Football nowadays needs invention, he thinks he’s managing a team from his Palace days in the 80’s. The best teams are the best football teams.

And the debate on Twitter, people raging – How can Blanc say we arent a bg Club?

Which big clubs are almost relegated? So he’s right IMO.
