Pavel is a Geordie!

RIP Pav
RIP Pav
Sad news has been released regarding former United goalkeeper Pavel Srnicek who has sadly passed away.

The 47-year-old collapsed while out running when in his native Czech Republic shortly before Christmas and has been in a medically induced coma ever since.

Capped 49 times for his country, Pavel’s career took in stints at Banik Ostrava, Sheffield Wednesday, Brescia, Cosenza, Portsmouth and West Ham but it is his time with Newcastle United, where he spent the bulk of his professional career, which will be mostly remembered. Two stints at St James’ Park yielded a total of 152 appearances starting in the Second Division under Jim Smith back in 1991 and ending with Kenny Dalglish in 1998 taking in the rollercoaster ride that was ‘the Entertainers’ era with Kevin Keegan.

My thoughts and prayers go out to those closest to Pavel and I can only hope that we raise the roof in tribute to him at our next match.

RIP Pav.

  1. I have a feeling little or nothing will be spent this window and they will cite no value for money to be had. We can forget Austin and any forward of note coming in imo. If it’s anything it will be a winger or MF player from abroad again because it’s the only way they go. Anything other than that will be a big surprise and down to panic on Jabbas part but unlikely to be repeated.

  2. Well both Shelvey & Townsend were left out this weekend, which probably means a January exit from their respective clubs.
That doesn’t mean they are coming to us, but if they are available then we should be shelling out whatever it takes to get those 2 in IMO.
Yes our greatest need is a CF, but we shouldn’t miss out on signing players of their calibre.
Those 2 and Remy on loan.

  3. SHARPY Back to the Carroll fitness he must be still be unfit as Bilac has just said Andy must forget England and the Euros and try to get “fit” instead

      (Quote)

  4. I’d take Townsend. Might not be the best out there, but can be very good on his day, and more importantly he knows the league and can whip a ball in, which is exactly what Mitro needs to flourish. If we’re not going to get a prem striker in then we at least need to provide the ones we have with the ammunition they need

      (Quote)

  5. I’d be over the moon with Shelvey. Surely someone up the table must fancy him too?
Not sure Chelsea would let Remy go in their position, but I’d have him for the season even without an option.
At this point it’s only about survival in my opinion.

I almost vomited as i re-read that last line.

  6. Ice – I think that’s fair comment from Slaven. WH have been paying him a huge wage while he’s been injured so his focus should be on playing & scoring for them, not England.
Mind that said, the day he scores for them against his old club Liverpool he takes a photo of himself with a toon mug – so maybe he isn’t so focused on the hammers 😆

      (Quote)

  7. Well well.
Just read on Ed’s that apparently Chron reporting Chelsea have offered Remy to us on loan.

      (Quote)

  8. You view – Townsend is better than what we have now. He would offer a pace, directness and a threat in our attack. He’s a more natural right winger than Sissoko who could be moved more centrally if kept. It would be a no brainer for me if there was a chance we could bring him in.

      (Quote)

  9. You view – I’d snap their hands off!!. He would join for purely selfish reasons I reckon – ie game time for the Euros but also to show whoever comes in to Chelsea just what he can do. But I can live with that if he’s getting the goals and keeps us up.

      (Quote)

  10. I’d pay Chelsea a loan fee and offer Remy a bonus if we stay up. The lad knows the fans would welcome him back.

      (Quote)

  11. Sharpy:
I’d accept him on purely selfish grounds so no problem there.
By the way, it’s youyew 😉

  12. sorry about that mate 😳 I assure you that’s what I’ve been typing but this bloody phone must have been changing it. As a dyslexic I am using grateful to my phone for helping me out, so there’s an irony there 😆

  13. Looks like Pardew is playing to our weakness’ in the transfer market. Palace after both Austin and Shelvey. My bet would be, we won’t get either. Palace are more concerned about being the best they can be rather than how much money they have.

      (Quote)

  14. Kim – I get the impression that Austin has said he has no desire to leave the South to play football.
If we could get Remy I think I’d prefer him anyway to be honest.

      (Quote)

  15. well imo if we go for a striker it won’t be A Carroll,to much money and injury risk,it won’t be Austin jabba does not like players of that age which could be the same with Remy my money is if any it will be Dost he might fit the bill that toon like

      (Quote)

  16. Sharpy, My only concern with Austin is his injuries, he’s had a couple of little set backs this season. Can only imagine what the NE weather and our medical team would do to him. No way can we afford another sick note, we have enough already.

      (Quote)

  17. Ice, I don’t know too much about Dost, would he cope with the PL? That’s the problem we have now, who ever arrives, if anyone does, they have to get off to a flyer.

      (Quote)

  18. KIM Dost is a A.Carroll type player I’ve watched him a couple of times but only on TV,like any striker he needs service we haven’t to good on that of late,we looked to get him in the summer but was second choice to Mitro

      (Quote)

  19. Yes Ice, I have only seen him on tv too. Agree anyone in is pointless without another in to supply them.

      (Quote)

  20. We’re going to need top, top players for next season in the Championship! Mike should be aware of that. Hmmm. What is Nile Ranger doing these days?

      (Quote)

  21. So the latest story doing the rounds in Pardew has offered 10mil for shelvey and 7.5 mil for Austin, good spend for twoPL players

      (Quote)

  22. Where are wor other top, top players of yesteryear? Where is Luque when we need him? Xisco is looking good now as well. That’s the kind of firepower I’m talking about. Ashley will be so pleased if I can get these players back to fill in while we decide what to do in the Championship. Do we stay with the already fabulous Arsenal model? Do we bring in some Austrian pre-teens? What is the plan Mike?

      (Quote)

  23. That doesn’t worry me at all ice mate. If Pards gets Shelvey and Austin, we’ll get Kuqi and Ranger! *** for tat mate. *** for tat. 😆

      (Quote)

  24. Don’t despair mates! I’ve got lots of other brilliant ideas to share with Mike about wor current dilemma. I’ve been visiting Ashley in the Fuhrer bunker recently. He looks a bit worse for wear I’m afraid. Hiding from his beloved supporters is very tiring apparently. He has all his top people working on wor problems. Kinnear has called in. So has Llambeezee. So am I worried? Never!

      (Quote)

  25. I’m now contacting the Austrian pre-teens for Graham. We’ll not be offering a lot in the way of wages of course. We have to make sure such top, top players as Saylor and Obertan keep getting their much deserved dosh. Yes, that’s how you build for the Championship. Well done Mike!

      (Quote)

  26. @Ice

if those reports are true, the only way we’d get Shelvey is if he prefers it here and Swansea sell for around 8 mill. No way would we pay 10

Not sure if hes worth 10 tbh.

      (Quote)

  27. GASHLY time not sure of how much he’s worth,L/pool sold him on why?? now that’s two managers Monk/Curtis have dropped him for being too lazy and not marking his man,is he the one for us?? ime not sure,we need a 100% effort every week, its just a thought like

      (Quote)

  28. KIM@709 now there’s a thing,Pardew said he’s been short of a striker all season, why didn’t he even play the lad?? as you say back at Chelsea now a strange one,he went well at Boro can he not step up to PL from ccc

      (Quote)

  29. Kim – that would be about right. We take Bamford who left Palace coz he couldn’t get game time, while Palace buy Austin, a player we should have folked out for in the summer!!.

Ice – if Shelvey goes to Palace for as little as £10m I reckon I’ll be done following the club while this lot are at the helm.

      (Quote)

  30. SHARPY I have so many doubts about so many player after all the **** that have came to SJP who do you trust not this lot that’s for sure, players have to much power or should I say agents there is even a few 20/30 mil players that came to the PL that cannot cut the mustard a few through agents bumping up their value, maybe we should look to our own lower lge

      (Quote)

  31. @Ice. thats my concern. He left L’Pool because he wasnt good enough. Played some decent football for Swansea but goes missing a lot with some poor passing.

Like you say, hes been dropped twice at Swans and warned about his attitude. 10mil may be too much for a player finding it hard to get into a Swansea team. they only paid 6 mill for him. I’d say thats about right 5-7mil

      (Quote)

  32. The more I think about it the more I see is just loaning players this January. Short term fixes (hopefully) while we would just be in the same position next summer where we need to spend £100m just to stay up. This is Jabba’a doing so he needs to accept it. Z

      (Quote)

  33. Sorry Coventry..but I’d get Arma back straight away. he knows where the net is and probably would of buried a few of the chance we’ve created lately

    5 Dubai Toon United 36
    6 Joshua 36
7 Macas Pony and Trap 35
    8 Natalie Sawyer Fan 33
    9 Nik Nak Utd 33

And the rest aren’t too far behind.

      (Quote)

  35. Gashley: If Shelvey is “lazy” as Monk called him then he has no future at Palace and would be mad to go there. Pards wants players in his own image and even wants to transform skilled players into grafters and thereby negating their best quslities. I am surprised Zaha gets a look in but that will probably change as it did with ben Arfa. Better off coming to the Toon.

      (Quote)

  36. Ice – I actually think that we have signed as many good players as we have duds. The problem has been that we haven’t cleared the duds out and replaced them with better signings. Our transfer policy has to change, coz the reality is that we have lost some of our best players because of our lack of strengthening.

Gash – I can accept what Monk says about Shelvey, but that should put him firmly top of our transfer list under this policy. An already quality PL player at 23 who has potential to get even better. His description could be Sissoko FFS. Townsend is another that could fit that description too.

      (Quote)

  37. So if we get Remy on loan then what happens next summer IF we stay up? That would mean we would need two strikers plus a centre midfielder, winger and defender. That assuming we don’t fill them places this January.

    Always playing catch up.

      (Quote)

  38. Do we think there will ever be a window were we don’t get linked to Carroll? I would like him back to be honest but he’s certainly not what we need at the moment.

      (Quote)

  39. Colback picked up his 9th yellow on Saturday meaning he is 1 away from a suspension. The amnesty for 5 yellows at year end doesn’t apply for 10 accumulated yellows.

I thought him and Tiote did well on Saturday. If there are no new signings we may be forced to move Sissoko to the middle, at least for 1 game.

Has there been any news on Anita? I am not even sure if I want good news on him as when him and Colback play together we offer no attacking impetus and often still get overrun.

      (Quote)

  40. I know a lot of people don’t rate Colback but I think he brings a lot of energy. I would “rest” him for Watford as I want him to play against Man U. There is no doubt he will then pick up his 10th booking and be suspended for West Ham but at least we might have another midfielder in by then 🙂 Might we ? 🙂

      (Quote)

  41. For Watford I imagine, Colo, Perez, Gini, Colback and Elliot to get rested. That will mean, De Jong, Thauvin, Lascelles, Anita/Tiote and Darlow getting a game.

      (Quote)

  42. Swansea haven’t had a manager for 3 games and we still can’t catch them. I do hope they don’t have a new manager bounce or they could be 6 or 7 points further away from us.

      (Quote)

  43. Is it still Fridays when we announce our new signings ?
I expect the board are very busy this week no ?
Wont be surprised to hear Ashley is away on his yacht somewhere warm
and Chumley has taken to his sickbed for a couple weeks.
    Happy Days on Tyneside 🙁

      (Quote)

  44. So Benitez loses only 3 of 25 games and gets the boot! Our boss doesn’t even get the boot if he wins only 3 out of 25!

      (Quote)

  45. So we’re apparently close to a Remy deal… Although it’s reported he wants a week to think about it 😯

      (Quote)

  46. Gash – well as long as our lot don’t sit on their arses waiting for the next week!!.
I’d rather Remy came straight away but as when we tried to sign him – he’s probably waiting for someone else to come in – QPR last time, maybe Palace this time?.
But there are plenty other deals to be done.

      (Quote)

  47. Nantes interested in Obertan 😯 I’ll pay for the fuvcking flight!!!

Marveaux wanted back in France too and Willo off to Wolves. We are creating the space in the squad to bring newbies in – which is positive at least.

      (Quote)

  48. Whilst I would love for us to sign Shelvey, I think our need for wingers is greater coz both Gini & Sissoko can play in the middle and are probably more natural to that position anyway.
I would make Townsend our next signing – but I reckon the club will more likely go for Saivet instead as he’s only £3.5m

      (Quote)

  49. Sharpy@737, I read last week that Saivet was having second thoughts on joining us due to our perilous position.

      (Quote)

  50. Kim – pull the plug on him then I say. I read that Saints were sniffing round him too abd thought that might be the delay.
We can’t afford another foreigner taking months to settle in. The lad has a poor injury record as well – he’s not for me 😆

      (Quote)

  51. sharpy, I’m not fussed either, in fact I’m pretty underwhelmed at the prospect. Rather have someone who knows the league and the job they’ll have to do.

      (Quote)

  52. There’s Leicester, 2nd in the league, 40 points already and are they sitting back and taking their foot off? Not a chance!!. They are the first signing players when the window opens.

      (Quote)

  53. Kim – those players cost money though. It’s down to the club now. If they want to gamble with the jackpot of the TV money then they play a risky game. If they want to survive then they need to spend. It’s an investment coz the higher up the league we finish the larger the slice of pie we get.
Spend the bloody money and get these players in early.

      (Quote)

  54. It looks like a possibility that Palace will get first choice on either Remy or Austin, and we’ll get the one left out.
I’d take either right now to be honest, but knowing our luck Alan will take the pair of them.

      (Quote)

  55. If we could get Remy on loan, I’d sign a top CB (expensive with get out clauses) and move Mbemba to DM. He’s got the energy, passes well, lightning quick and loves to carry the ball up.

2 simple moves that could make a real difference.

      (Quote)

  56. we can have the best players in the world but if the chief coach is a diddy and plays the wrong tactics then we have no chance

      (Quote)

  57. I’ll be perfectly honest, I’ve not seen Bamford play, but again right now I’d take him for options. I know he didn’t too much at Palace, but we had plenty of decent players who didn’t do too much under Pardew.
He was highly rated and spoke of before going there, and he apparently did well on loan with boro.
Most of Chelsea’s fringe players are probably at least on par with what we have

      (Quote)

  58. You Yew – I would say that Bamford is most similar to Perez if I could compare him to a player you have seen. He’s a talented young lad, but I think we need a goalscorer – a Austin or Remy. Mind you, if Chelsea were selling then I say buy him and allow De Jong to go back to Holland.

      (Quote)

  59. With every minute that passes without a signing we slide closer to relegation. Get your finger out Lee! The need is urgent.

      (Quote)

  60. If we sell Williamson and Obertan thats two poor players off the books. I wouldn’t get your hopes up about signing Remy or Austin.
