8 NUFC players now test positive for COVID….& 3 of them played vs Crystal Palace – Report

The COVID outbreak at Newcastle United is showing no signs of slowing down, with The Telegraph reporting that EIGHT players are confirmed to have tested positive for the virus.

Perhaps the most damning update from Luke Edwards’ piece is the fact THREE of these players were involved in last Friday’s 0-2 win at Crystal Palace – meaning the Eagles now face a nervous wait to see if any of their squad are infected.

The Telegraph also reveal that there are another two Newcastle United players who are feared to have contracted the virus, despite their initial COVID tests being inconclusive earlier this week.

This means that the unnamed duo, along with the infected trio involved at Palace, have been mixing with the NUFC squad and opposition players at a time they may well have carrying the Coronavirus.

This all means that the Benton-based training ground has been forced to stay closed until at least Monday, leaving next Saturday’s visit of West Brom up in the air.

Even if our clash with the Baggies does go ahead, our preparations for the game are going to severely impacted – not to mention the knock-on effect this MAY have on Crystal Palace should any of Roy Hodgson’s men test positive in the coming days.

With more test results set to return later this week, we can only hope the situation gets better, not worse, ahead of our upcoming game with West Brom.

What a mess.
