Simon Jordan makes new NUFC prediction after claims Saudi owners will spend £60m this summer

Last week, The Telegraph released a big ‘exclusive’ claiming our new owners look set to hand Eddie Howe a £60m transfer budget this summer.

Some aren’t buying it, feeling it’s simply an early piece of PR to warn selling clubs that we don’t have an endless pit of cash available, however talkSPORT’s Simon Jordan believes it could be a worrying sign.

He feels we’ll be in for another season that sees us ‘competing at the bottom’ if we only spend £60m this summer, feeling we’ll finish in the ‘bottom six or seven’ in 2022/23 if the current crop of players aren’t improved upon considerably.

Jordan also wonders if this is a sign that our new owners – backed by the Saudi PIF – are planning to build in a ‘pragmatic’ and ‘bite-size’ fashion, building year upon year opposed to spending huge sums in a bid to rise to the top quickly.

Here’s what he had to say when speaking on talkSPORT this week:

What do you reckon?

Are these ‘£60m’ claims just an early message to selling clubs after the difficulties faced in January or do you think our new owners are planning a steady and sustainable rebuild at Newcastle – meaning mega money deals will have to wait?

  1. Jordan is blowing hot air as usual. He spouts off on stuff he doesn’t really know constantly although I guess that’s what he is paid to do. He only gets away with it because of his authoritative and seemingly intelligent delivery, unlike many of his Talksport colleagues. With regards to our current players, they have proved, with good coaching, that they are so much better than many would have said when the previous manager was handling (??) them. Of course Jordan doesn’t wish to acknowledge that.

  2. We may only have to spend that much in transfer fee’s, if you add free transfers to our list of signings.
Look at the number of high class players who are out of contract this summer.
We will be in the market for them because we can offer a very competitive wage!

  3. ANYWAY IF THE PIF DONT SPEND TO GET TOP QAULITY PLAYERS IN THE SUMMER THEN MAYBE HE IS NOT THAT FAR WRONG IN HIS PREDICTION BECAUSE THEY THEY WILL HAVE TO SPEND A LOT OF MONEY TO GET INTO THE TOP SIX NEVER MIND THE TOP FOUR
