“I still believe” – NUFC star joins Sven Botman & Callum Wilson in late push for World Cup call-up

Joelinton is refusing to give up on his World Cup hopes after scoring in front of Brazil boss Tite at St James’ Park on Saturday.

The 26-year-old scored his first goal of the season from a rebounded Callum Wilson effort and put in a great shift down the left side of our front three as we put four past Aston Villa.

Despite never receiving a call-up before, the forward turned midfielder ‘still believes’ his good form over the last 12 months can help him secure a place at the biggest footballing tournament in the world.

Joelinton admits it will be ‘very difficult’ to force his way in over the next 20 days, joining Callum Wilson (England) and Sven Botman (Netherlands) in making a late push for Qatar after the latter was named in his country’s provisional squad last week.

Here’s what big Joe told NUFC TV when asked about Tite’s appearance on Tyneside and his World Cup hopes:

“It means a lot that he was watching. It was my first goal of the season, one I’ve waited for. I just try my best. My family was here and if it makes him (Tite) happy, it’s good for me.

“He came to see Bruno and watch the game. I am happy for Bruno and hope he continues to play well, helping Newcastle before taking it to Brazil at the World Cup.

“I still believe I can get to the World Cup. I’m positive, but I know it’s very difficult with 20 days to go. All I can do is work hard, give my best and the chance will come. I’ll be ready.”
