Newcastle now closing in on surprise Premier League record – This might shock you…

Newcastle United are now just a few goals away from achieving what no other Toon side has achieved during the Premier League era.

If Alexander Isak scores three more goals in our final 10 games, it will actually be the first time three Newcastle players have reached double figures in a single Premier League season.

Callum Wilson’s brace on Wednesday night took his tally to 10, Miguel Almiron is currently our leading scorer on 11 and Isak’s late strike at the London Stadium saw him move to seven.

Believe it or not, three Mags never made it into double figures for the season even during the days of Shearer and Ferdinand or Cole and Beardsley. When we finished 5th under Alan Pardew, only Demba Ba (16) and Papiss Cisse (13) got beyond that 10-goal mark.

This highlights what a brilliant job Eddie Howe has done, with Miguel Almiron’s form in front of goal one of several success stories from a manager who’s improved so many players within the squad.

He’s also managed Wilson and Isak superbly. The former came back into the side last night and didn’t disappoint with a well-deserved brace, while Isak has been managed well on his comeback from a long-term thigh injury.

As things stand, this is our current list of top scorers heading into Saturday’s trip to Brentford:

  1. Miguel Almiron – 11 goals
  2. Callum Wilson – 10 goals
  3. Alexander Isak – 7 goals
  4. Joelinton – 4 goals
  5. Joe Willock – 3 goals
  6. Bruno Guimaraes – 3 goals
