After Nottingham Forest’s defeat at Aston Villa last weekend, I noticed ‘Jonjo Shelvey’ was trending on Twitter.
What I found was a clip of his awful mistake – which gifted Villa a 1-0 lead three minutes into the second half – and some frankly brutal comments from Forest fans.
It seems they were already less than impressed by the 31-year-old following his late January move from Newcastle United, but it Saturday’s latest error has tipped them over the edge.
In his eight appearances so far he’s made three errors leading to goals, conceded a penalty, picked up two bookings and is yet to end up on the winning side, with them losing six times and drawing three since his debut in early February.
I like Shelvey – he’s quite misunderstood, has bags of talent and was a good servant during his time on Tyneside – but he did look off the pace and pretty erratic in our 2-1 win at the City Ground last month, often chasing shadows or hacking down his long-term replacement, Bruno Guimaraes.
Here’s the costly error he made over the weekend, followed by the thoughts of Forest fans; left’s just say they’ve not been impressed:
