George Caulkin reveals likely summer budget as Newcastle plan five key signings

In his latest piece for The Athletic, George Caulkin has been discussing Newcastle’s transfer plans and the likely budget Eddie Howe will have to play with this summer.

The North-East reporter believes a figure in the region of £100-£150m has been made available, while stressing that our new owners have shown ‘flexibility’ in recent windows – often spending above what has been expected.

He believes that the money to come from our top-four finish has given the club ‘more wiggle room’ in our fight against FFP restrictions – again suggesting more could be spent – but it’s interesting that he’s the second local journalist to name this figure.

Speaking after our final day draw at Chelsea, The Mail’s Craig Hope said his sources had been told around ‘£100-£150m plus player sales’ was the likely amount.

As for who we’ll sign, Caulkin names five positions in his piece that are deemed priorities heading into the window.

  1. Right-sided centre-back
  2. Left-back
  3. Defensive midfielder
  4. Creative midfielder / No 8
  5. Wide forward

  1. If we sign Maddison, we could cover the attacking MF rold and RW. That would free up funds for a good DMF (Neves, Palhinha, Adams)
Follow that up with Tierney, Sosa or Rico Henry at LB
Todibo, Schurrs or Bella Kotchap/Salisu for CB cover. That would come to around £120M and I’d be owa the moon!

Not really they’re just doing what you did and copied and pasted it somewhere else.
No one knows how much we have to spend or who it will be spent on only those in the process.

So everything else is just pure speculation
