Newcastle remain in Mohammed Kudus race despite interest from Premier League trio

Newcastle United are interested in Ajax star Mohammed Kudus, although it’s unclear if the club will make a formal move.

Speaking to the same source who informed us of talks involving Tino Livramento earlier this month, we’ve been told that the 22-year-old is very much on the club’s list of attacking options.

However, Man Utd, Brighton and Wolves have all shown concrete interest in Kudus, leaving us with ground to make up and plenty of work to do if we wish to bring the Ghanaian to St James’ Park this summer.

Last month, both The Telegraph and The Athletic confirmed that Newcastle were admirers of the versatile attacker, with David Ornstein reporting that £40m could be enough to strike a deal with Ajax.

Kudus’ ability to play in a number of roles will appeal to Eddie Howe. He operated as a right winger and false number nine over the majority of the 2022/23 season – where he bagged 18 goals and seven assists for Ajax – but has played as an attacking midfielder or No 8 on several occasions for club and country.

With James Maddison securing a move to Spurs and Dominik Szoboszlai looking increasingly likely to join Liverpool, Newcastle will be busy assessing alternative targets and have a decision to make on the Eredivisie star as Premier League interest grows.
