Eddie Howe identifies next summer target as Toon boss eyes left winger – The Telegraph

According to The Telegraph, Newcastle United have turned their attention to Leicester City’s Harvey Barnes.

The report states that Eddie Howe is keen to bring in another left winger this summer and has the 25-year-old ‘firmly in his sights.’

The Toon boss wants to bolster his attacking options as we prepare to compete on four fronts next season and it’s thought Barnes has now emerged as a key target.

With an additional wide forward wanted and the Foxes star expected to leave Leicester following their relegation, it’s a move that could make sense given his Premier League experience.

Barnes has been involved in 60 goals (35 goals and 25 assists) in 146 Premier League appearances, scoring 13 times last season in an otherwise dismal campaign for the East Midlands side. Spurs, West Ham and Aston Villa have also been linked with a move, so we could face competition for the Burnley-born attacker.

Personally, it seemed to me that we are weaker down the right and in need of someone able to compete with Miguel Almiron and Jacob Murphy, especially with Anthony Gordon, Allan Saint-Maximin, Joelinton and Alexander Isak all current options to play down the left.

However, we’ll have to trust Howe’s judgement on this one if we do end up pursuing a deal. He’s proven at this level and could be a smart signing at the right price; even if his arrival would raise more questions around ASM’s future.
