Anthony Gordon gives update on settling in and praises ‘impressive’ Eddie Howe

Anthony Gordon has revealed how he feels in a ‘really good place’ after working under the ‘impressive’ Eddie Howe for six months now and is looking forward to the upcoming season.

After joining from Everton in a £40m deal, the winger admitted that he felt ‘unfit’ upon arrival in Tyneside and was struggling to ‘get up to speed’ with our intense level of play.

However, after working more and more with Howe, the 23-year-old has heaped praise on his coach’s ‘impressive’ attention to detail and focus on tactical improvements.

Gordon had a great U21 Euros tournament, winning player of the competition, and has looked sharp in the pre-season games that he’s been involved in so far.

After seeing what Howe has done with the likes of Joelinton, Schar, Almiron etc., this could be a huge season for the youngster as he looks to make his mark in the Premier League and Champions league.

Here’s what Gordon had to say on Howe and his settling in period:

“The manager’s tactical detail is so impressive. And there is so much of it compared to what I was used to before. It is impressive and so much of it that it took a while. He did warn me it would take a while, and the other players did warn me too.

“It is a lot of meetings, visualising stuff, and then on the pitch helping me when we do tactical sessions and shape. Those sort of things. I would use the word ‘unfit’ when I first came in… I hadn’t trained for a week or so.

“I just felt previous games before the move I didn’t feel up to speed at all. And I got injured soon after joining Newcastle. I never got fully up to speed, but this summer has put me in a really good place.”
