Fee agreed for Remy

Closing in on Remy
Closing in on Remy
Newcastle United have agreed a fee for Marseille attacker Loic Remy, according to club president Vincent Labrune.

The fee agreed is believed to be in the region of €10m-€10.5m (or £8.2m-£8.7m in good old pounds sterling) which by my reckoning would make Remy the third most expensive signing Mike Ashley has made at Newcastle following the purchase of Fabricio Coloccini and Papiss Cisse.

It is understood that Remy, who supposedly said goodbye to his soon-to-be former colleagues prior to Marseille’s game against Sochaux, will now travel to Newcastle to discuss personal terms and undergo a medical ahead of sealing a move potentially as early as the start of this week.

“We have reached an agreement in principle with Newcastle and we have given Loic permission to hold talks with them. We are now waiting on developments,” Labrune told AFP.

Meanwhile former Magpie midfielder Joey Barton, who now plies his trade at Stade Velodrome, took to Twitter to have his say on the matter. He basically said that a move to St James’ Park would be good for the player and wished him the best although if you want to read the actual words they are quoted below.

“Good luck to Loic in Newcastle. Don’t worry I’ve told him what to expect. Great guy. Perfect club for him. #toonarmy”

The “I’ve told him what to expect” part could be interesting given Barton’s well publicised falling out with the United hierachy… Of course I may be being a little sceptical there and Barton could just as easily be talking about our fanatical fanbase.

The 26-year-old would add some much required attacking versatility to the squad. Remy can play as a striker, winger or one of the wide attackers in a front three, which is how I see him being utilised with Hatem Ben Arfa on the other side firing in the chances for central striker Papiss Cisse to knock home. In an ideal world anyway. It was clear at Norwich on Saturday that we need some creativity…

It’s not a done deal yet, not by any stretch and a potential medical issue with the players heart may yet come into play, as could a failure to agree personal terms, but I don’t feel the latter will be too much of a problem. It’s not often agents don’t know what kind of deal is on the table before a player travels to complete the formalities. I doubt the heart problem will be a problem either but you never know…

hopefully we’ll have confirmation soon enough…

  1. Aussie ,I’m inclined to agree on Remy ,I was a bit concerned re his form but feel if he can hit the ground running he’d be a good buy. Having said that, yesterdays events show a side to the player I don’t like .Not turning up at Toon to at least explain his situation is bad form imo and after pubicly stateing he wouldn’t speak to QPR then changing his mind once mega bucks get mentioned speaks volumes of the lads motives. No ,not for me I’m afraid.

We will know who ever comes to us does so for football reasons as we obviously can’t compete with QPR and others for wages. There is huge comfort in that knowledge for me ,don’t know how others feel.

  2. There’s meant to be a third club in for Remy. My spider-sense says it’s Arsenal (OK, they were linked to him earlier). It would make me laugh if he turned up at Emirates now.

  3. Kim,
Until Remy actually signs with QPR, I will not label him a greedy ****…. It’s all media at the moment, we shall see shortly what the truth is 😕 … I might not be all bad, like I stated earlier, an inform goal scoring striker is what we need, not one that “might” rediscover his form..

      (Quote)

  4. WELLINGTON@299 , Yeah I know he’ll be fine, I was more on about the fact they are hardly in a position to say we are in a state given the league table. 😉 Harry really should engage his brain before opening his cakehole.

      (Quote)

  5. Aussie i’ll maybe get a few more good feelings if we get a quality CB in, I think it’s a disgrace that we still haben’t got one after atleast 3 seasons, shame on the Regime

      (Quote)

  6. Harry can’t even sort his taxes let alone have a dig at another club… that ***** would be selling “gold” watches on a street corner if he wasn’t in football…

      (Quote)

  7. Kim – Arshavin’s on his way out, I’d say that Arsenal have room on their roster for an expensive flop. 😉

  8. I was reading an interview at the weekend about Sloppy Chops saying that he thought Remy wouldn’t speak to him because he thought they had a decent relationship and that Remy didn’t have the heart to just say no to him.
So has it crossed anyone’s mind that he could still say no to QPR and was only talking to Sloppy to keep him onside ?

      (Quote)

  9. Dave ,possible , maybe Wellington has a point ,**** do tend to keep things a bit quiet on signings .Don’t know what to think anymore, can’t help thinking there is someone better suited to us though.

  10. The daftest thing of this whole situation is that Remys apparantly set himself the goal of being frances no1 striker for the next world cup.

We have three of the french euro 2012 squad along with Sissoko apparantly in talks and three french youth internationals in the squad its fairly obvious that we would be a decent club to be at if he fancied catching Deschamps eye.

Anyway **** him if we beat reading chances are well be in a cluster or teams on 24-26 points and hopefully not only drag ourselves away from the relegation zone but get a few others looking ower their shoulders…

Im appreciative for putting me and Aussie right for the spelling of “Ute”.

Wouldn’t you thought Aussie would know how to spell it bearing in mind he bashes his repeatedly when he gets in a hissy fit. 😛 😛

  12. I recall reading that as well Big Dave, just goes to show what a bargaining chip money is.. Remy had no interest in QPR until……..

      (Quote)

  13. Well you cant say its boring being a toon fan!

I wonder if remy has noticed the reaction of the footballing world that he would be mad to go to qpr over nufc 😆

No striker this jan now for us we spent a long time on remy and thats gone to pot so have we enough time to get another fella in?

  14. Dave…I’m only online in the old flat cos wor lass is working her notice on Tues and Thurs and we don’t have internet in the new place yet so I don’t have to put up with so much transfer window ****

  15. Liam yeah we have loads of time, we won’t be held to ransom by any player so we have other irons in the fire that will be available in the summer, as Jan isn’t the best window 😆 .

Richie you need to get the net sorted as you are the resident link man 😉

  17. II think you might be right about no striker coming in now,we never seem to have a plan B or C these days at the Toon and this is a short window and we always chase lost causes or take forever to get the few deals we manage to finalize. Its seems like suddenly the board realize on January 1st we need new blood and then get there arses into gear, which is far to late and we usually get very little done and trot out the excuse of we could not get them over the line in time whilst everyone and their dog seem to manage this no problem at all.Its like waiting for an upgrade on your mobile that never turns up! Loic Remy is a bit of a poster boy for footballers today im afraid, its not about football anymore, its about who pays you the most, they say its ambition and wanting to win things, but I have never seen anyone spending a trophy or a winners medal in the shops.I wonder if they did a survey and asked these top players if they were worth the money they get for the job they do would say yes? The only people I can think of that should be getting that kind of money(and they dont) are surgeons etc,Id give a 100k to the surgeon that saved my daughters sight at the RVI..They are footballers, good ones, but thats all they are.

      (Quote)

  18. WELL WELL WELL. Now HBA is saying he unhappy with our ambition:

    David Crossan ‏@davidmcrossan
#HBA “For now what #nufc are doing is ambitious (in terms of signings). They should have done it earlier and we’ve spoken about that.”

    David Crossan ‏@davidmcrossan
#HBA “There are still a lot of positions in which #nufc need re-infircements.”

    David Crossan ‏@davidmcrossan
#HBA “But I’m abitious and I want to win trophies. I won trophies at #OL and #OM. That’s why I said if there’s no ambition then I’ll leave”

Cya Bud, we have no ambition…

      (Quote)

  19. tThink we should just really sell them all now. It will be more painful doing it window after window…..

Those last HBA quotes imply he has already let these feelings known to our board. Wonder if it helps encourage them to spend?

Worst case for us is for these people to hand in transfer requests. We’d then have to accept a bid lower than we would want.

      (Quote)

  20. I’m liking the player pressure being put on the board. It should never have got to this stage though. They just dont learn. Just sell up and do one Ashley.

      (Quote)

  21. BIGPAPA – I have been saying all along that last summers inactivity will cause more problems.

False economy – they thought they were being clever and saving money when it could actually end up relegating us and if we do stay up, it’ll probably mean our better players will all want to leave. Why would any top class player want to play here? Are they going to win anything or even challenge for the CL place?

      (Quote)

  22. TBF Big Papa, you can quote HBA more favourably from the same interview/translator…

    David Crossan ‏@davidmcrossan

Chelsea? Yes. Arsenal? Yes. Liverpool? Yes. “Today those clubs are better than #nufc. But if we sign players we can catch up with them #HBA

#HBA “I really love #nufc. It’s the only club that’s given me this responsibility, this love. I feel really loved by the fans.”

#HBA “But if there’s ambition at #nufc and they sign players, then why not stay?”

      (Quote)

  23. Sounds reasonable to me. I agree with the above that it should never have come to this. But if the board can learn and adapt (big if!) then this problem should go away…

      (Quote)

  24. Sick of all these player tweets and quotes – the only thing you can trust is what they actually do on the pitch.
Ba told us the only reason he came to NUFC was for the money. That’s just the way of the world these days.
Somehow though I think we’ll get a pleasant surprise signing. We need one that’s for sure. Until then – play Marv as No 10 and drop Obertan. I’d prefer Bigi out there.

      (Quote)

  25. Stuart – i agree its complete and utter negligence to only get 1 player in last summer, now any CF we go after will know they are 2nd choice to Remy…

BLIP : whilst you’re right i was merely repeating the quotes that will almost definitely see him leave, and it reflects the disharmony at the club for the way the board do things…

We will not pay 80/week so we will only ever get to a certain level….

      (Quote)

  26. Don’t really see it as a big deal that players think they were our second choice, perhaps it will motivate them more to prove why they are worth it for example.

It’s all the same thing. Just like Benny would have wanted to go to Arsenal or Chelsea the year before joining us for example…

So long as we get someone in, pacey, technical and can score goals. Not too much to ask is it

    And 2/3 defenders, cheers Mike.

  29. GG63 @325 ,Well said my friend ,couldn’t agree more .Worlds gone mad when you get paid these sums of money to kick a ball about, however beautifully it’s done. I can understand where you are coming from ,re your ref to the NHS doctors and nurses, My disabled boy was in status for over 108 minutes last february and the team of Neuro guys at Frenchay hospital saved his life that day .They are amazing people doing amazing things ,knocks kicking a football into a cocked hat. Sadly it’s the way of the world now that even a relative football nonentity can demand stupid money and there’s nothing that’s gonna halt it.

      (Quote)

  30. Ref his wages the most reliable figure I can find is £80k a week which isn’t crazy money for a player that was thought of as a £20+ mill only a year ago and if he can help keep QPR up then it would be cheap as chips

      (Quote)

  31. Big Dave, true but it depends on how over inflated the 20m evalution was/is. There have been lots of expensive plaers that aren’t worth 1/2 of what they are valued at…

      (Quote)

  32. loved this tweet from balotelli; remy has chosen qpr over nufc and is having medical the first thing they should check is his “head”,always liked the bloke 😆

      (Quote)

  33. SSN , Remy having medical at QPR and says he is joining them over Newcastle for footballing reasons 😯 yeah right.

Ballotelli has tweeted Remy needs his head read to choose QPR over Newcastle 😉 what a sensible lad 😆

      (Quote)

  34. Ballotelli saying someone else needs their head checked. 🙂 🙂 he is one to talk 🙂

      (Quote)

  35. I know this has probably been mentioned, but Remy now has a mega contract at QPR, (not sure how many years) then he will surely have some motivation to find form and start scoring, as the longer he stays there the more money he earns, right? If this happens then our own fragile league position is under greater threat. Unless somehow it is more profitable for him if qpr are relegated and then he can sign to whoever as a free agent with signing on fees and favourable clauses (like Ba).. In which case maybe he wont be busting a gut to keep them up.

      (Quote)

  36. We wouldn’t pay Ba 80 grand a week, we are hardly going to pay Remy that. Fernandes and whoever is in the background at QPR have stupid amounts of money, they are in Chelsea, Man city league of spending. Liverpool, Spurs, Everton wouldn’t pay Remy 80 k a week and nor should we.

Everybody keeps going on about last summer, but even without spending it was reasonable to think we would be at worst mid-table, with a January boost to kick on. When this transfer system works its great, when it doesn’t its ****.

We were lucky to finish where we did last year. If we bought Debuchy, a CB and a quick striker last summer but still finished 7th – 8th this year, do you think Ba and HBA would still want to stay.

It takes time to build a regular top 4-6 team unless you throw stupid money at it. I quite like the ups and downs of it all, that’s football. Although, there have been a few too many downs this year. The sad thing is, for Remy the player, he would be better with us. I read a piece the other day on him that said he would flourish if played off a main striker, but would flounder if the responsibility was all on him through the middle. See QPR. He would have also fitted what Pardew wants.

At least we are looking at the right type of players. Just wish a couple more were in the door. There is no point keep banging on about last summer, it has gone. And like Cabaye’s new attitude since returning, it is time to move on and look forward.

      (Quote)

  37. @348 Well said

we’ve spent 5m+ on one player and were willing to splash out another 8m+ on another. If targeted players are available at a reasonable price and refrain from demanding an unreasonable wage, we’ll pull the trigger

      (Quote)

  38. You could throw Ronaldo and Messi at Pardew, he would still manage to make them look like average players with his nonsensical tactics.

What was fantastic here was people said if Ba goes Cisse will start banging them in. Well another ***** game from him.

I suppose even now that Ba is at Chelsea it must still be his fault Cisse failed to score this past weekend.

      (Quote)

  39. @Michael12… Do you think Ba would have scored against Norwich? It’s all well and good mocking those who thought Cisse would fly in a central role, but they were probably expecting him to see the ball.

  40. micheal 12 why did they get a cross into cisse at the weekend 😕

  41. Blip – NUFC does have ambition.
I’m getting sick of all the negativity at the moment.
    ENOUGH.
We are a VERY ambitious club and are striving to be a mid table PL club, that is fully self sustaining and requiring no financial input from its owner.
What more do you people want ffs 😕
    😉

  42. 🙄 iam sure you have to be passed the ball to score 😕

  43. Oh goody are we gonna talk football at last.
I agree,Batty, Cisse was let down badly by his team mates and Pardew on saturday gone.
Not one decent pass to his feet in the danger area.. Not his fault our coach is feckin clueless with his tic-tacs and so called game plan.

  44. TRANSFER LATEST
St Etienne striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang says he is a target for Premier League clubs, but says he will not be moving until the summer, reports Sky Sports.

The Gabon international has been linked with Manchester City, Manchester United and is also understood to be attracting interest from Newcastle, who are in the market for a new forward after offloading Demba Ba to Chelsea.

There goes another good one then 🙁

      (Quote)

  45. Blip@352 ,Exactly .Look Micheal has a vendetta against Cisse ,if he’d scored a hat trick at Norwich ,he’d still say he was ***** 😉

Former England manager Sven-Goran Eriksson will join the coaching staff of second-tier 1860 Munich to help them climb up the table, the German second-tier club announce.

“Yes, we have an agreement that Sven-Goran Eriksson will join our coaching staff,” the club’s board chairman Otto Steiner tells reporters after an all-night meeting at the club offices. 1860 Munich are sixth in the table
Looks like NUFC are stuck with the clueless one a while longer. 👿

      (Quote)

  47. Yes I believe Ba would have scored because he is capable of creating something out of nothing. All average strikers need service but great strikers are capable of individual efforts and that is what Ba has done 13 goals in a team creating so little what’s Cisse’s excuse?

Shola looked funny on the day.

Cabaye’s wife is showing signs of pregnancy again.

    Williamson.

    Simpson.

Ba stole Cisse’s goals and is now scoring them for Chelsea.

All very very valid and plausible reasons that even a thinking man could not argue against them.

      (Quote)

  48. Aubanaeyang is a complete non starter he has repeatedly said he’s not leaving this window and with Manure Citeh after him we stand no chance ,so I hope we arn’t spending time trying to get him .Better to try for more realistic targets and get a bloody shift on .

  52. Blip – not sure, but I’m sure he would prefer to come to NUFC given half a chance.

  53. BB@358 – that’s the Vert Foot story AGAIN! It’s still quotes to the club magazine and still doesn’t mean anything.

Kim@362 – no, he hasn’t. Aubameyang has told his club’s magazine that he loves it and wants everybody to be happy even though he’s highly wanted by every good club. That has since been taken as good coin by the papers on this side of the channel.

Don’t tell me that nobody else has a spreadsheet for this. 😐
